Why do zoomers have fake nostalgia for 90's vidya?

I was a 90s kid and I have nostalgia for the 80s still. Nostalgia isn't really the right word come to think of it, but it's definitely a sort of longing and an appreciation for the style and culture of the time period. I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

Those beige cases were not made with user manageability in mind. I had an old compaq Pentium III PC with no ventilation other than the shroud to the PC and maybe the PSU's exhaust, but the thing was metal and just touching the back would give you a jolt.

modern parts really arent well designed for old cases. sure you can tinker with it until the parts fit but i'd rather have something already designed well for modern parts as well as being brand new

well I have real nostalgia for the 90s so I can't blame them

I don't know if I count as a "retro troon" but I'm a millenial, my first consoles were a SNES and GBC, I don't really like the look of yellowed plastic and I think the grey indigo color scheme of the NA SNES is the coolest looking shit ever

Of course the retards on /v/ fall for generational warfare and Indian/AI written articles based on a single image found on Twitter. You're hating a group because a puppet show is being put on with them as the villain. And all the villain is doing is liking what you liked. I grew up loving things made decades before I was born. TV programming in the 90s was loaded with syndication. Acting like you didn't just makes you a fag.

Bro have you ever fucking PLAYED an old video game on a CRT?

It's unreal how much clearer and playable it is. Idk how millennials got old on the flat tech meme. Old tech was better, it had more sovl.

Aside from the hideous fake floppy 5.25 bay covers, I appreciate that there's a new case that doesn't have a glass or acrylic side panel. That's actually pretty tasteful.

>Idk how millennials got old on the flat tech meme.

We saw:
>no scanlines
>no crt bleed
>just direct pixels without noise
>less power consumption
>no need to degauss
>atop of a form factor that didn't need two people and a dolly to move from place to place
It was pretty easy to see the upsides while being blind to the downsides, and after a while, it became embarrassing to be the only person on the block that still has a big, chunky CRT. If you were refurnishing, all of the furniture stores were updating to accommodate flatscreens and flat panels, and the big wooden entertainment centers stopped being a thing in favor of single flat-surface dresser-style centers.

It wasn't just being sold on one single aspect of media, the technology reshaped the living room dynamic entirely. I'm not celebrating any of this, mind, so much as it's what I explicitly remember when I finally moved out of my parents' place in 2001 and I saw this shit happening firsthand.
>>
>>730692968
CRTs are mostly just bad. If you really want to see how far technology has come play ori will of the wisps with hdr and 1440p+. That game looks fucking amazing. The technology is simply being used the wrong way. CRTs are really only useful insofar as properly displaying dithering in old games, but obviously new games don't use those techniques because, well, why would they. And obviously games look better than ever, just look at these renders
https://youtu.be/D0d2gC0zzkU
Like something like Command and Conquer gets totally blown the fuck out by this, Westwood never made anything that looks this good and they were the kings of this sort of thing. And it looks best on modern high resolution display.

I think shitposters on /v/ just selectively ignore everything new that looks great.
>>
>>730692570
problem is, most of the "good" games of the past are solid stories that lasted in my mind for 30+ years, while the shit gameplay vanished days later.
but more modern games have then redone those stories, or stolen them outright, and done them with better gameplay.
so what was once a REALLY interesting and surprising story about betrayal is now "ANOTHER game where the mentor is actually the villain, lame", because the first game literally invented the trope that the newer games ran into the ground.

and a zoomer/whatever the newer ones are called aren't going to slog through half-life 2 to experience the outstanding development of "video game physics", let alone some story heavy game like return to zork or dust: wired west.
even the more recent stuff only get 'consumed' as someone else streaming the game and explaining the lore with the bonus of hindsight, 3 additional pieces of media, and information from the creator 20 years after the fact.

Honestly, the only thing I really miss from CRT are the refresh rates. Flat panels have been the norm for two decades, and we're only just now getting refresh rates comparable to what we had as the norm 30+ years ago.

I still have a couple of my old CRTs, but I don't really feel that compelled to use them unless I'm explicitly wanting to revisit some old norm as a novelty.
>"yep, that's a crt alright"

>>730693702
but i dont want to play factorio right now, i want to play donkeykong, and playing it on my monitor looks wrong compared to how real it looked on my parents 16 inch crt.

the problem is that all of the CRTs left are the ones that were magically perfect.
I grew up with CRTs and they were fucking shit until you got lucky and found a good one. Most people trashed the shitty ones and kept the magic CRTs with a perfect picture.

Those are all that's left. It's a similar reason to people claiming old cars were always better, because the 80s/90s cars you often seen online are well maintained. Reality is the 80s/90s had a fuckton of horseshit cars.
Remember 90s chevy interiors? They were fucking terrible.
>>
>>730694617
