Why don't new games feel like anything anymore

>Rockstar spends half a billion dollars and a decade working on a perfect cowboy simulating game
>any random spaghetti Western or low budget 20th century cowboy show feels more authentic and atmospheric than it
RDR2 feels more like a Westworld game, like the whole playable area is just a theme park in modern real life with all the characters being robots

Same goes for AC Black Flag and the lack of a pirate feeling, or Baldur's Gate 3 and the lack of a fantasy feeling, and many others, they feel like bland tasteless engine demos

It's like they're small theme parks that are right next to each other in real life, instead of genuine themed periods aeons and universes apart, the way you'd never expect e.g. Curse of the Monkey Island to take place in Baldur's Gate 2 with how different they are

I disagree.

Because it has all been played.
Everyone has heard everything, seen everything.
They haven't had to play splitscreen with each other in four generations.
There's nothing left to play.

>a perfect cowboy simulating game
>cowboy simulating
>simulating

simulator are not fun

I don't know about that, I can discover old games that feel like a pirate game, a fantasy etc just fine

I disagree with your disagreement

they're both played out games with predictable gameplay mechanics, story, presentation; there's nothing to see, even the graphics are similar to other contemporary games
>>
They all start from the same foundation of
>Unreal Engine idea of real life
>drop some themed items in there appropriate for the period
>done

Whereas in old games every single facet of a game is reinforcing its theme
>the UI is pirate themed
>the font is pirate themed
>the art style is pirate themed
>the music is pirate themed
>the sound effects are pirate themed
>the characters talk and act like pirates
>the world works according to pirate rules

Meanwhile new games all use the same bland UI and the same bland orchestral soundtracks and the same generic visual styles and the same modern writing and sensibilities etc

AC is even designed around the Animus modern life shit that destroys any possible immersion into the setting itself

It's because having having more technology allows devs to focus on aspects that weren't really possible prior to the 2000s such as graphics, animations, lighting, etc. However, you don't have that same level of suspension of disbelief you get with less realistic games. It's what makes your imagination go wild on what is not being presented.
You start to notice the holes and artificialness in these higher production games because it's impossible to create a complex and living world with AAA graphics because of tech limitations and how fucking expensive it'll be.

RDR2 was designed with online play as the priority first and foremost
