I already didn't pick up Dawntrail because Endwalker felt like a good time to take a really long break and work on my backlog. At some point I realized I didn't really want to come back, and then Dawntrail launched and kinda cemented it. Job homogenization really primed this game for its current crisis, as my personal enjoyment and dedication to the game waned when they started simplifying and even entirely changing some jobs (e.g. Summoner) to be faceroll. Now the problem is even if they walk back on that stuff and make the jobs more interesting at all levels of play, doing low level content is like being punished at this point, if they solved this issue there's still Dawntrail sitting there as a bitter pill/humiliation ritual you would have to go through. I'm not sure what it would take for them to get me back short of delivering a viera to my house to suck me off. Giving all returning players that did not play Dawntrail a free expansion skip would go a LONG way, but I don't think they even understand their players anymore to recognize how much of a goodwill gesture that would be. It would also be admitting that they fucked up which they won't ever do.
