how does this work
Man i love the ps1 modelling for singletrac games. Its like they had really bad 3d modellers but very good artists to draw the texturework and it fully elevates the designs. It simultaneously looks ugly and awesome.
>>730701232you wouldn't get it
>>730701232axel power>>730701378i kinda get what you mean. TM1 and 2 have really, really fucking ugly models, and i guess you could say they had to do that to fit the levels and run at a decent framerate, but the levels aren't that big and TM2 sure as hell does not hold even 30fps most of the time. it's fucked up 'cause that sub game singletrac did was pretty solid in both departments, and when they became Incog and went to the ps2, twisted metal black has absolute oodles of fantastic model, texture, and animation work, massive maps and a solid 60fps, so i guess their vision was just a little too limited by the ps1

is the tv series decent?
>>730702576It's serviceable. Some moments are iffy but overall it's what you'd expect from a TM show.

>>730708778It's true, I don't. Imagine being strapped to a set of wheels for decades. Can't scratch your nuts.
>>730702576it feels more like death race with twisted metal references than an actual twisted metal show.
>>730709026Small Brawl is so underrated, but the gameplay and story is great.

>>730708569Isn't this meant to be a monkeys paw thing, thats Calypsos whole thing right? Dude just gets out of the machine, dude just stop being a slave metaphor lmao just get out of the wheel lmao
>>730709850You're saying it's good then because it delivers what you would expect from the title?
>>730702576It gets better over time but starts as a 4/10 and ends as a 7/10
>>730702576I like it. It takes the good parts of everything from the whole series and stays faithful to them. And anything that was never that great in the first place either gets relegated to small cameos, or gets totally reworked to be more coherent with the rest of the setting. They even kept Drag Queen, and kept him exactly as distasteful as he was in 4, which a really big win for authenticity in my book. The only serious "problem" is that Anthony Mackie's John Doe has essentially nothing in common with any version of John Doe or Marcus Kane from the games. He's a wholly new character to fit the role Anthony Mackie wanted to play. But we wouldn't have the show at all if he wasn't putting his own money up to make it, and it's clear he gives more of a shit about making an authentic, fan-oriented adaptation than anyone else in a similar position right now. If you can tolerate that, and everything else that comes with it, the show is good. But if you go in wanting nonstop vehicle combat combined with the dark satire vibe of Twisted Metal 2 in particular, or the bleak oppressive horror of Twisted Metal: Black, you're not going to get either. It has a mixed tone that's still trying to tell compelling dramatic stories. But it also knows that the premise and a lot of the characters are inherently silly, so it ends up running right along the edge of Marvelslop. And they're clearly heavily budget constrained on the action sequences, so they're extremely few and far between, and generally underwhelming when they do show up.It's good, and made with a lot of care and attention to detail. But it's also a self indulgent budget-tier passion project. Which is something I'd rather see more of, as opposed to trash made by a committee of assholes with no interest or stake in being true to the source material at all.
>>730710328If I remember right he occasionally just grants the wish in a normal way, though usually those wishes were ones that don't change much like Axel's or Dave and Mike's.
>>730711070chat gpt response kill yourself faggot
>>730704406The version of Axel in Twisted Metal 2, 3 and Head-On didn't do it to himself. His abusive (adoptive?) father built the machine and forced Axel to be bonded with it.Black is the only game where Axel did it as penance for his guilt. I personally believe that Black is just a collection of Needles's baseless assumptions about the motivations and backstories of the other drivers, so it's not canon in the same way as the rest of the games.
>>730710328Calypso does what he wants. If he wants to fuck you over then he will. If he doesn't then he won't. He's a character as much as any of the racers. Guy asked for the strength to face his father. Calypso made him strong enough to rip his own arms off. Wish granted. And it was cool. He also once granted Sweet Tooth's wish to live as a caterpillar in a garden.
>>730710328Calypso often just grants more small-scale wishes like Axel's as-written, then the character is undone by some flaw of theirs like the guy who wanted to build the biggest building, the dragster that wanted to go EVEN FASTER, or the doofuses in the ghetto blaster that wished to fly and would have gotten first-class tickets to Hawaii if they hadn't jumped off the building.
it just werks
>>730710328Calypso just wants to make the world a worse place, and make the most violent, unhinged maniacs on wheels kill each other so they end up in Hell, proven as champions, to be forced to compete in Satan's own destruction derbies. If your wish is selfless, good for the world at large, or a threat to the continuance of the Twisted Metal Tournament itself, or Calypso just doesn't like you, or your wish, he won't give you what you want, he'll find a way to twist it into a cruel punishment, or avoid giving you anything of true value on a technicality or loose interpretation of the letter of your wish. If your wish is totally selfish, petty, trivial, or even beneficial to the Twisted Metal Tournament's future, He'll grant it with no strings attached.Returning Harold the Wacky Lunch Sack to Needles, new tires for Mike and Dave, putting Mortimer Schnarf back to rest are all examples of that, as well as most of the endings in Twisted Metal Black. There are also a limited number of cases where Calypso doesn't have absolute control. If whatever grants him his power decides it's better to grant the wish, it'll happen whether or not Calypso wants it to.
>>730711724In 3 at least he does do the forced bad twist on every wish
>>7307120463 and 4 were made by 989, and they DID NOT understand the appeal or tone of Twisted Metal at all. I guess you could say he was just in a particularly vindictive mood for that tournament, but I don't weigh 3 very heavily when considering the ground truth of Calypso's behavior and motivations, especially considering that they stay perfectly consistent across the other games.
>>730710328If you read the comic, Calypso is shown to have daddy issues, so this one time he granted Axel's wish as-is because he sympathized with him.
>>730701378>Its like they had really bad 3d modellers3D modelling software has come a long way and actually usable tools like Blender are now available to the public for free.

>>730711269Isn't that what Minion's messages say?>this world is not real, this is how Needles sees things, I miss the old, colorful world
>>730711724I love TM:B to bits but even with how serious and grimdark/edgy it is, still feel it's a little bit worse off for having 'bald, mute fat ugly bastard Calypso' instead of normal trickster Calypso who thanks you for playing.
>>730701378there's an art that goes into TM vehicle design that it takes a while to figure out, and it's something most other car combat games fail at and tm ps3 fucks up as well
>>730711724This is dope. A good twist(no pun) on the idea of making selfless/sacrificial wishes.Wishing for world peace is gayWishing for 2 chicks at the same time: hell yeah brother
