What's your favorite Wii game?
u r mr gay 2
Galaxy music and level design were insane. Someone did a nice breakdown here: https://youtu.be/qq8oLKqySrw
dokapon kingdom, love that 6-month weekends I played it with bros
>>730705731ya m i, r u?
>>730705731 based and galaxy-pilled. the level where you're upside down with the gravity switches still lives rent free in my head. triple jumping through space with that orchestral banger in the background? pure kino.
>>730705682B
Re4 with wiimote control
probably Donkey' 'turns
No More HeroesAlso The Conduit was fun and looked great.
>>730705682Wario Ware Smooth Moves
>>730705682boomblox, wii sports, or wii play. really tough to say which one exactly would win as my favorite
>>730705801>level designNah, mario galaxy levels are ass. Nothing but a bunch key dangling. You spend way too much time in those fucking star launchers alone.
>>730705682Tri
>>730705682I just got myself a Wiimote, a sensor bar and a nunchuck. I am ready to replay the Mario Galaxy games as intended. as well as the games that were too cumbersome to play with a regular controller. The nunchuck hasn't arrived yet, so I am playing Other M. As it only uses a wiimote, it's not too bad tb h, but the game is ugly as sin.
>>730711184Great choice, all the control options, one of the few games that used the Wii Remote to its full extent.
>>730711564Yeah, one of the few Wii games with a 10/10 soundtrack too.
This game is really good since you can play it from start to finish with zero waggle controls.
Xenoblade 1. Still hasn't been surpassed by any of the sequels.
>>730705682Definitely No More Heroes. It's a pretty meh console, for every little king story there's like 20 ninja breadmen, shame how much port dumping the hardware had. There's a lot of Wii games I liked but there's so much shitty third party games, I get a bad taste in my mouth reminiscing about it.I had the GC version of Twilight Princess, I played Xenoblade on WiiU.>>730711380Someone has ass selective memory. dumb nig.
animal crossing city folk
Uh... Shit. The console is completely devoid of anything of value, I guess NMH is okay? Still would've been a better game with a real controller.
>>730705682I remember picking it up shortly after launch because it looked interesting.A few weeks later it was nowhere to be found, new copies would go on Amazon for up to 200€.Turns out it was FAR more successful than Nintendo thought and the made far too few copies. It's why Xenoblade was the first full big game that they sold as a digital copy. This is why preordering games used to be a thing folks, especially with more "exotic" games like JRPGs outside Final Fantasy... if you didn't buy the initial print there was always a good chance that the game would just completely disappear afterwards because no extra copies would be made. Also shoutout to Pandora's Tower and Last Story, I think all the three games of Project Teardrop were pretty interesting, Xenoblade is just the one that blew up. But I wish the other two would get a rerelease one of these days.
Punch Out.
>>730711861>Someone has ass selective memory. dumb nig.I played it again recently faggot. I was consistently bored throughout it. It's easily my least favorite of the 3D Marios and I have played them all multiples times over. Galaxy is the one I always have the least desire to go back to. The gravity gimmick is more often annoying then fun, and there's too many sections where you just mindlessly do simple tasks from small planet to small planet. It doesnt have the challenge nor the exploration required to make a platformer fun.
>>730712001Odyssey is at least as bad or worse than Galaxy. The last 3D mario I can stand is Sunshine.
>>730712069Naw, fuck off. Odyssey has better movement, better challenges, and better exploration than galaxy. Sunshine is a disaster at times, but at least it still fun. Galaxy is just boring.
>>730711730Shut the fuck up saucy
>>730712172Odyssey is the same kind of boring as shit baby gameplay, but now with more checkpoints so even if you fall off the map you respawn 2 feet away. I got further into Galaxy before quitting out of sheer boredom than I did with Odyssey.
>>730712001Yeah shit taste confirmed, everything you stated is just a historical, there's excellent variation within level design even within a single level will it progress between a bunch of unique elements often combining them after teaching you how they work. Mario Galaxy's level/objective design are those systems idealized but they work most effectively within Mario Galaxy's vacuum due to the games central gimmick.Mario Galaxy's approach to level design was applied to Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze and there's a reason why it and Mario Galaxy are the apex of both 2d and 3d platforming.
>>730712323>there's a reason why it and Mario Galaxy are the apex of both 2d and 3d platforming.God, Nintendo kids are always a riot.
>>730705682Metroid Prime 3
>>730712323What a disaster of a post. I am genuinely trying to understand you and the first half of your post is actually unintelligible.
>>730705682wii sports was soul overload. raving rabbids was so much fun too.
>>730705682>everyone knew the wii was souless and corporate back in the day>wii babies think it was the best system everNostalgia is a hell of a drug. It's wild to me how much online discourse over the wii has changed over the last 5/10 years.
>>730712172Sunshine literally has better movement than Odyssey since you can both enter and leave a wall kick on an angle, if you enter a wall kick on an angle in Mario Odyssey you leave the wall kick flat based on the walls direction, the method in Sunshine is outright superior since it opens up more potential for level design, at the cost of opening up more space for player error, but that space is absolutely worth it.The slide in Mario Sunshine/64 is also just outright better than the roll in Odyssey.>>730712360>>730712418You are both just wrong, Mario Galaxy's level design is borderline perfect, in about as perfect as you can design a game with so many variables.
>>730712665Buddy I don't know why you tagged me. I cen said sunshine was fun. All I said was that it was a bit of a disaster at times (and im mostly just talking about a few ass bonus levels). I never said the movement in odyssey was better than the movement in sunshine, just that it was better than the movement in mario galaxy.
>>730712665Movement on Sunshine is so good, too bad for the lack of level design on most levels.
>>730712631you must not remember all of the brawl memes
>>730712665>a game with so many variablesLmao what are you talking about?
>>730712631>corporateThat would be the Switch, the Wii was so experimental that some games can't be ported to any other console, maybe VR and that says a lot.
monster hunter tri
>>730712927>VRThat shit is boring as fuck too. The waggling was literally just a gimmick that appealed to casuals. It was annoying and unresponsive. There's nothing soulful about that.
>>730712794Because I can, Movement in Mario Galaxy isn't really the point, the game does well in spite of it's movement which is really just showing how it's excellent level design is the star of the game.>>730712798The team that make Mario games have improved so much that they really should consider making a direct sequel to do it justice.>>730712841More variables is more space to make errors, but being able to do as well as they did with that space is a great example of the games core quality.
>>730705682red steel 2
>>730705682What kind of apparatus is attached to this Wii and why?
>>730712927>Wii was so experimental that some games can't be ported to any other consoleTerrible argument. The reason why previous consoles can all be ported is because they introduced mechanics/hardware that were so well loved they became the standard. The fact that consoles no longer focus on motion controls is a sign that no one actually liked it. It means it DIDNT stand the test of time.
In my restless dreams, I see that gameEndless Ocean 2
>>730713007>annoying and unresponsive The problem was that it required precise movements to register the input, it took distance, angle and speed into account so not knowing how to move the controller made it unresponsive and inaccurate, taking all the limitations into account and performing the proper movements made it smooth and fun.>VR is boringVR is great, reloading a gun in the middle of a fight is thrilling, the 1:1 inputs make even menial tasks fun.
>>730713039You are such an ESL faggot it hurts to you read your posts. Please learn how to form your sentences better
>>730705912Emulated it with a few friends a while back, pretty fun game. Feels like playing Mario Party but with more asshole options.
>>730713007What's worse is that the Switch was also packed full of features for developers to experiment with, they could have easily have relived the Wii/PS2 era in terms of budgets, creativity etc. but just chose against this, and all the while they were complaining non stop about the Japanese audience being dead, the cost of games development being through the roof and the need for games to be a success thus games now having to have checklists for content, having to do audience tests etc.I swear every major publisher's board members outside of Nintendo got there by failing upwards.
>>730713150>The problem was that it required precise movements to register the input, it took distance, angle and speed into account so not knowing how to move the controller made it unresponsive and inaccurate, taking all the limitations into account and performing the proper movements made it smooth and fun.You literally just described why motion controls are godawful. Controllers should be a conduit for your mind. The moment you have to start fighting the controller to "discover" how to use it is the moment you've failed as a controller.
>>730713109Yes, experimental, the masses didn't like it so it was ditched.
>>730713153And you're a faggot with shit taste, but I'm still here talking to you.
>>730713112For me, it's Fragile Dreams.
>>730713230And? You're the one trying to argue, but you're so goddamn unintelligible that you aren't convincing anybody
>>730705682Punch-Out!! is the only non-WiiWare game I liked.
>>730713221Well I agree, it's not for everyone, I don't expect motion controls to make a comeback anytime soon but for me, it was one of the best eras of videogames.
>>730713150>VR is great, reloading a gun in the middle of a fight is thrilling,You sound like a fucking retard. Reloading adds literally nothing to the experience. Actually, it's actively tedious when it comes to shit like individually loading rounds into a cylinder or magazine. This is a problem that was literally solved DECADES ago. You just shoot off-screen. For VR, you just point the gun down, there are a couple of games that do reloads correctly like this. Instead, the vast majority of titles feel they need to have an excuse for 2 motion tracked controllers, and so use them for awkward faux reload motions.
>>730713268Nice try loser, instead of complaining about you being a little bitch try and actually make a point, you can't because you are too fucking dumb.>all this seethe over mario galaxy being the fucking goat 3d platformer
>>730713357Skill issue, git gud
>>730713486Why develop a skill that is completely worthless and completely removed from reloading in real life? Your inability to understand gameplay mechanics is a skill issue, nothing is improved by making people faux reload.Actually, many games have been made actively worse by it. Look at Alyx, where enemies will back off when you run low on shots because the game is anticipating that you'll need 5 seconds to reload and they don't want to pressure you.
I spent hundreds of hours of my life to this shit.I’m still confused as to why they’d approve of this fucking boxart.>>730713112Based, although I prefer the first one personally.
>>730713590It's fun, I like having fun
>>730713686It's not fun, but you think Galaxy is the peak of level design, so you wouldn't know fun if it broke down your door and raped you in the ass.
>>730705682Brawl or Sonic Colors probably. Like, Brawl had its problems, but we still played the shit out of it in college.
>>730713716What?
>>730705682earth seeker
>>730705682Conduit 2
>ctrl+f "punish">no resultsYou disappoint me, /v/.
>>730705682Shame that it never got another rerelease.
>>730705682House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return. Two wiimotes. Two gun props.
>>730718574Spoken like a retard who has never used a real light gun.
>>730705682Anyone saying anything else but Brawl is just trying to sound cool(you aren't)
>>730719070Brawl was just a worse version of Melee for zoomers who didn't have any friends.
For me, it's kiddie shovelware #1768
>Cool novel new controller never before seen used as a 3d input device up until now that could possibly the start of thousands of new gamplay ideas>The only thing most devs used it for was binding an action to waggling action and the pointer to select objects on screenThis still still annoys me to no end.
>>730719872I remember all the reviews for this game pissed me off. Everyone complimented the creative visuals but then tempered it by saying the only reason it was in black and white was to make it work on the feeble Wii hardware, therefore the visuals loop around to being bad. Even if it was true, and it probably is, why would working around hardware limitations nullify their achievements? If anything it makes it 10 times more impressive. I guess this was a time where the race to photorealism was still in full swing, and the idea of innovation through limitation was handwaved away.
>>730721236I remember seeing that game and thinking it was more of a Sin City inspired take above all else (Black and white with occasionally colors used to emphasize moments) it sucks it got blasted for that reason and being on a Wii. Also yeah Frank Miller took inspiration from manga as well iirc, so it kinda loops around to a Japanese dev taking influence from him again.

>>730705682Twilight Princess, but that's not a true Wii game. Next to that, Monster Hunter Tri (peak Monster Hunter game).Outside of TP and Tri: Wii Sports, Wario Ware Smooth Moves, Super Mario Galaxy 1, Mario Kart Wii.The true star player of the Wii was Virtual Console though.
>>730705682Muramasa: The Demon BladeYes, the translation sucks and don't bother trying to figure out what the story is about (past where to go next) but it's a ton of fun to play the game. The Vita version is vastly superior, but it's still so much fun that I'd put it as my top game for the system anyway.
>>730721183it was just too inaccurate. they had to release a hardware patch lol (wiimote+). but the damage was done.
gotta be imagine party babies

>>730727201Still need to play this one. Fantasy EDF with waggle sounds like it would be retardedly fun.
is the wii really this shit of a console? where are the good games
The Wii was Nintendo's PS3 imo. Mediocre console albeit with a few great games. For me, it was Boom Blox, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, and MadWorld.
>>730719126>not liking bothPoserAnyway, my brother lost my Brawl disc along many other games and all my mother did was say "I'll replace them" then it never happened, wired controllers, several gc, wii and wiiu games, he almost lost the WiiU too.I still kept melee tho but my parents threw my crts away when I moved out "they were too old" they said./blogpost
>>730731081It's great and introduced some mechanics that weren't seen in EDF until 2025 or 5, like dashing or dismemberment. The big drawback is that unlocking weapons isn't as simple as picking a difficulty and collecting boxes. Different types of gems are dropped from enemies based on type, limb removed, or head removed, and you have to buy the weapons from a mostly linear tree(it looks pretty free-form but you quickly notice that most weapons have multiple prerequisites that must be bought first). Also health increases are purchased with the most common gem drops, too.

>>730734167Got me to bring out the system at all. With the whole sensor bar setup though I think it'll be a bit frustrating playing it in such an enclosed space though. Will probably never make it to the car in the end.
>>730734261Ah, I thought it was a typo and I couldn't figure out what you meant, that's pretty cool, I still got my WiiU hooked up and it's so fun, Skyward Sword is still beautiful, love the controls, I just finished MP3C there right before MP4B release and I had such a good time regardless of the terrible level design of skytown and valhalla.
>>730725159I really hope Vanillaware can finally get their fingers out of their asses and port Muramasa and Odin's Sphere to modern consoles and PC, it's criminal that they're still stuck in old consoles.
