I just got myself a Wiimote, a sensor bar and a nunchuck. I am ready to replay the Mario Galaxy games as intended. as well as the games that were too cumbersome to play with a regular controller. The nunchuck hasn't arrived yet, so I am playing Other M. As it only uses a wiimote, it's not too bad tb h, but the game is ugly as sin.
>>
>>730711184
Great choice, all the control options, one of the few games that used the Wii Remote to its full extent.
>>
>>730711564
Yeah, one of the few Wii games with a 10/10 soundtrack too.

This game is really good since you can play it from start to finish with zero waggle controls.

Xenoblade 1. Still hasn't been surpassed by any of the sequels.
>>
>>730705682
Definitely No More Heroes. It's a pretty meh console, for every little king story there's like 20 ninja breadmen, shame how much port dumping the hardware had.
There's a lot of Wii games I liked but there's so much shitty third party games, I get a bad taste in my mouth reminiscing about it.
I had the GC version of Twilight Princess, I played Xenoblade on WiiU.

Uh... Shit. The console is completely devoid of anything of value, I guess NMH is okay? Still would've been a better game with a real controller.

I remember picking it up shortly after launch because it looked interesting.
A few weeks later it was nowhere to be found, new copies would go on Amazon for up to 200€.
Turns out it was FAR more successful than Nintendo thought and the made far too few copies. It's why Xenoblade was the first full big game that they sold as a digital copy.

This is why preordering games used to be a thing folks, especially with more "exotic" games like JRPGs outside Final Fantasy... if you didn't buy the initial print there was always a good chance that the game would just completely disappear afterwards because no extra copies would be made.
Also shoutout to Pandora's Tower and Last Story, I think all the three games of Project Teardrop were pretty interesting, Xenoblade is just the one that blew up. But I wish the other two would get a rerelease one of these days.

>Someone has ass selective memory. dumb nig.
I played it again recently faggot. I was consistently bored throughout it. It's easily my least favorite of the 3D Marios and I have played them all multiples times over. Galaxy is the one I always have the least desire to go back to. The gravity gimmick is more often annoying then fun, and there's too many sections where you just mindlessly do simple tasks from small planet to small planet. It doesnt have the challenge nor the exploration required to make a platformer fun.
>>
>>730712001
Odyssey is at least as bad or worse than Galaxy. The last 3D mario I can stand is Sunshine.
>>
>>730712069
Naw, fuck off. Odyssey has better movement, better challenges, and better exploration than galaxy. Sunshine is a disaster at times, but at least it still fun. Galaxy is just boring.
>>
>>730711730
Shut the fuck up saucy
>>
>>730712172
Odyssey is the same kind of boring as shit baby gameplay, but now with more checkpoints so even if you fall off the map you respawn 2 feet away. I got further into Galaxy before quitting out of sheer boredom than I did with Odyssey.
>>
>>730712001
Yeah shit taste confirmed, everything you stated is just a historical, there's excellent variation within level design even within a single level will it progress between a bunch of unique elements often combining them after teaching you how they work. Mario Galaxy's level/objective design are those systems idealized but they work most effectively within Mario Galaxy's vacuum due to the games central gimmick.
Mario Galaxy's approach to level design was applied to Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze and there's a reason why it and Mario Galaxy are the apex of both 2d and 3d platforming.

Nostalgia is a hell of a drug. It's wild to me how much online discourse over the wii has changed over the last 5/10 years.
>>
>>730712172
Sunshine literally has better movement than Odyssey since you can both enter and leave a wall kick on an angle, if you enter a wall kick on an angle in Mario Odyssey you leave the wall kick flat based on the walls direction, the method in Sunshine is outright superior since it opens up more potential for level design, at the cost of opening up more space for player error, but that space is absolutely worth it.
The slide in Mario Sunshine/64 is also just outright better than the roll in Odyssey.

>>730712360
>>730712418
You are both just wrong, Mario Galaxy's level design is borderline perfect, in about as perfect as you can design a game with so many variables.
>>
>>730712665
Buddy I don't know why you tagged me. I cen said sunshine was fun. All I said was that it was a bit of a disaster at times (and im mostly just talking about a few ass bonus levels). I never said the movement in odyssey was better than the movement in sunshine, just that it was better than the movement in mario galaxy.
>>
>>730712665
Movement on Sunshine is so good, too bad for the lack of level design on most levels.

That would be the Switch, the Wii was so experimental that some games can't be ported to any other console, maybe VR and that says a lot.

>>730712927
>VR
That shit is boring as fuck too. The waggling was literally just a gimmick that appealed to casuals. It was annoying and unresponsive. There's nothing soulful about that.
>>
>>730712794
Because I can, Movement in Mario Galaxy isn't really the point, the game does well in spite of it's movement which is really just showing how it's excellent level design is the star of the game.

>>730712798
The team that make Mario games have improved so much that they really should consider making a direct sequel to do it justice.

>>730712841
More variables is more space to make errors, but being able to do as well as they did with that space is a great example of the games core quality.

>Wii was so experimental that some games can't be ported to any other console
Terrible argument. The reason why previous consoles can all be ported is because they introduced mechanics/hardware that were so well loved they became the standard. The fact that consoles no longer focus on motion controls is a sign that no one actually liked it. It means it DIDNT stand the test of time.

In my restless dreams, I see that game

Endless Ocean 2
>>
>>730713007
>annoying and unresponsive
The problem was that it required precise movements to register the input, it took distance, angle and speed into account so not knowing how to move the controller made it unresponsive and inaccurate, taking all the limitations into account and performing the proper movements made it smooth and fun.

>VR is boring
VR is great, reloading a gun in the middle of a fight is thrilling, the 1:1 inputs make even menial tasks fun.

Emulated it with a few friends a while back, pretty fun game. Feels like playing Mario Party but with more asshole options.
>>
>>730713007
What's worse is that the Switch was also packed full of features for developers to experiment with, they could have easily have relived the Wii/PS2 era in terms of budgets, creativity etc. but just chose against this, and all the while they were complaining non stop about the Japanese audience being dead, the cost of games development being through the roof and the need for games to be a success thus games now having to have checklists for content, having to do audience tests etc.
I swear every major publisher's board members outside of Nintendo got there by failing upwards.
>>

>The problem was that it required precise movements to register the input, it took distance, angle and speed into account so not knowing how to move the controller made it unresponsive and inaccurate, taking all the limitations into account and performing the proper movements made it smooth and fun.
You literally just described why motion controls are godawful. Controllers should be a conduit for your mind. The moment you have to start fighting the controller to "discover" how to use it is the moment you've failed as a controller.
>>
>>730713109

>>
>>730713221
Well I agree, it's not for everyone, I don't expect motion controls to make a comeback anytime soon but for me, it was one of the best eras of videogames.
>>
>>730713150
>VR is great, reloading a gun in the middle of a fight is thrilling,
You sound like a fucking retard.

Reloading adds literally nothing to the experience. Actually, it's actively tedious when it comes to shit like individually loading rounds into a cylinder or magazine. This is a problem that was literally solved DECADES ago. You just shoot off-screen. For VR, you just point the gun down, there are a couple of games that do reloads correctly like this. Instead, the vast majority of titles feel they need to have an excuse for 2 motion tracked controllers, and so use them for awkward faux reload motions.
>>
>>730713268
Nice try loser, instead of complaining about you being a little bitch try and actually make a point, you can't because you are too fucking dumb.
>all this seethe over mario galaxy being the fucking goat 3d platformer
>>
>>730713357
Skill issue, git gud
>>
>>730713486
Why develop a skill that is completely worthless and completely removed from reloading in real life? Your inability to understand gameplay mechanics is a skill issue, nothing is improved by making people faux reload.

Actually, many games have been made actively worse by it. Look at Alyx, where enemies will back off when you run low on shots because the game is anticipating that you'll need 5 seconds to reload and they don't want to pressure you.
