Did piracy really kill the PSP?
>>730716371The shitty disc tray killed the system. And phones.
Welp, it was a hell of a lot more successful than the Vita, a device that only got hacked as it was being discontinued
>>730716371Nah, I'd say piracy was more rampant and easier to access on the DS with flashcarts and that was a huge successPSP was just kind of mediocre
It's probably most succesful non nintendo handheld. It "died" normal way of years going by, hardware getting outdated and public interest in it going down
>>730716463And proprietary Memory Cards. And the lack of a second analog stick.
>>730716463>>730717109yeah that's what my favorite eceleb youtuber said so it must be true!
Everyone I knew who had one back then pirated everything. We shared a homemade Pandora battery to install cfw.
>>730717109>proprietary Memory CardsMemory Stick was proprietary in a sense in that it was part of Sony's ecosystem and could be used in other Sony products, unlike whatever they used for the PSVita.
iirc psp sold a lot of units but not a lot of games so yes
>>730717406You could pirate for it since launch. Still they kept manufacturing it for decade. If anything, I'd say that piracy prolonged the lifespand of the psp. Not the other way around. You wouldn't keep making a thing for 10 years if it was dead in year 1
>>730716371No, piracy didn't kill the ds and it was even easier to pirate
>>730716371No, PSP killed itself
Don't forget that a lot of ppl in shithole were never going to buy anything other than football games in retail if they couldn't pirate, so not a great loss
>>730716371"kill" implies it failed, but it outsold the 3DS
>>730716371Didn't it sell like 80 million units? That sounds pretty good
>>730716371It was an amazing device that was way ahead of its time.A gaming handheld that could be used as a video and music player on the go.
>>730716371For me, I ended up using it far less than my DSLite because the battery was just so far outclassed in comparison. LocoRoco 1 & 2 (FREE MY BOYS, GIVE THEM A PC RELEASE) are a couple of my favourite games ever, if it had DS-tier battery life I'd have used it for several more years
>>730716371it had like nogaems, only shitty portable editions of already existing franchises.
