https://www.gamesindustry.biz/the-new-owner-of-gog-discusses-taking-on-steam-the-devil-of-drm-and-following-in-nightdives-footsteps

>"I think what Nightdive is doing is the perfect example of what we would like to embark on: have these IPs, bring them to your engine, make them work, play better than ever, potentially do a spiritual successor of the game, or maybe even a new installment of the game, like what they're doing with System Shock."

Sounds good! :)

I have an issue with this

uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

how can I spin this negatively
>>
>>730727561
Not a bad idea. I mean they are already doing the fixing part to make them work on modern systems.
>>
Thanks Gog for saving gaming

Samefag.

>>730728331
that's a good approach. we can attack anons instead of the topic. or say buy an ad.

>steamies seething at the mere mention of GOG
Seethe more Steamie. I bought 20 games from the GOG winter sale.
>>
>>730727561
Hope they do, they understand how to preserve games and package good mods with them sometimes too so I'd buy a gog sponsored remake
>>
i still can't get over them using scene cracks for their releases
>>
Sounds kind of pie in the sky. GOG has always been barely profitable at best; how are they going to afford to develop brand new games while also running their store? Especially now that they no longer have CDPR backing.

How about they contribute to open source emulator projects and wrap those around old games instead of hiring 20 californians, 100 indians and burning half a rainforest to shit out stuff like pic related?
>>
>>730727561
Good! I hope they do that. I think I trust GOG to make new versions of games that aren't a total waste of time, too. A lot of other companies rerelease stuff that just plainly suck in dozens of different ways, and they might as well have not bothered.

But who knows, maybe they'll fuck up their attempts too. Still, interested to see what they do

Any confirmed examples?

Fake News

The quote is from a guy at GOG before the buyout. The owner says they have to reevaluate the idea.

>If you had asked me two weeks ago, I would probably have given you the same answer as Bartosz did during Gamescom: that it only feels natural for GOG to expand on its business model and get even closer to the value creation, to the creative side of things for gamers. Today, I would say that we need to talk, and I hope it will be only natural.

Remakes. Sure, why not? Took them long enough.
>>
>>730728542
Sleeping dogs remake.. . Honestly, if the games are awesome, I psy gladly 50.
>>
>>730728863
>open source emulator projects
Working for free, eh? Good idea. Might lead to problems with profitability, but rich people don't care, that's what banks are for. Problem is, gog isn't rich.
>>
>>730729298
I mean GOG already, for example, offers the DevilutionX source port as a free mod for Diablo.
>>
>>730727561
>Nightdive is doing is the perfect example of what we would like to embark on: have these IPs, bring them to your engine, make them work, play better than ever,
their remasters of dark forces and bladerunner were shit and ran worse than the originals
>>
>>730729471
GOG is great.
>>
>>730729471
Sure, they do need money and good remakes are the way to go. They could become number 1 doing so. Number 1 in remakes.
>>730730147
Yup.
>>
>>730728816
they're just doing remasters
>>
>>730727561
I love gog as platform, but they have issues:

- their developer experience is third rate
- they get blown out of the water with exclusivity deals with their marketshare
- their drm free approach is massive turnoff for companies who spent milions on dont-steal-my-shit solutions.

Steam has cultivated their storefront position for decades, meanwhile gog thinks they can disrupt them without innovation, worse deals and missing coverage on same features. Lunatic approach without money to back it up.
Epic at least had fortnite and engine sales to power through

Thing that keeps steam afloat on top is their resiliency for disruption. If they would go down for month people would think twice about hedging their purchases. That never happened, and never will. Snowballed their gains to perfection. Unless Gabe's replacement will become greedy scum i doubt steam will ever fail,

Based new owner of GOG. This is why I continue to only buy games on GOG.
>>
>>730727561
They should focus on getting good indie games for their store instead
>>
>>730728996
No, he's just talking out of his ass

>their drm free approach is massive turnoff for companies who spent milions on dont-steal-my-shit solutions.

People who make good games dont give a shit about DRMs, see last games of the year, only retrogrades with decades old decadent franchises are obsessed with DRMs

We don't need additional DRM in the age of 200-300GB games
>>
>>730727561
They should take over restoration of Saints Row 2. This should be their duty
