Best vidya with these types of mechs? Do they have a specific name?
>top heavy>tall>light armor>probably slower than a tank too"Retarded" is their name.
>>730735359Chickenwalker/poultry mech
>>730735548Get better bait, this one is really really stale, like old enough to vote stale
>>730735548What if they're in a low gravity setting with jets?
>>730735615Mechs are as cool as they are impractical and unrealistic
>>730735815Tanks were realistic but impractical when they first lumbered onto the battlefield. Most didn't even make it to the battlefield and broke down on the way to the front. Give mechs the tech needed and we could see them having a viable combat role. Just like tanks.
>>730735359Chicken-walkers, or as Brigador defines them, Leg Units.I highly recommend Brigador, the graphics are pixel-isometric so it's not quite what you're depicting in your pic, but it's still a damn good game.>multiple classes of vehicle, from light/med/heavy leg mechs, to tanks, to anti-grav flyers that function like attack helicopters>amazing setting with two books by a guy who's actually been in active combat, both as infantry and in a tank crew
>>730735615I'd totally play a game with Evangelions or Gundams or similar. "Realistic" mechs are just retarded.
iron harvest has a bunch but it’s mid
>>730735359Gun mechs is the only term i can think of, something that's specifically designed as a weapon platform instead of adding arms for other tasks
>>730735706I have a irrational dislike of lam's
>>730735706>top heavy>tall>with jets>in a low gravity environmentThat makes it even worse.
>>730736062it's gotta have at least some sort of a manipulator to help with loading/maintenance, rightnothing stops you from putting a single claw arm somewhere on the ass
>>730735359Metal Gears.
>>730735548the heavy front might be mostly empty fuselage for the pilot to sit in, with the heavy equipment sitting back on the hips.
>>730736080>>730736086Ah ok, im trying to make a low sci fi setting and this was one of my concepts for a mech on low gravity planets.
>>730735548
>>730735989gundams are retarded because they are too humanlikeyou're just watching two giants fighting, where's the appeal in that? they're either so super advanced they can walk without pilots or it's just an extension of their body.mastery over machinery? technical limitations? mechanically animalistic posture? companionship with the inanimate? that's where it's at
>>730736315Metal Gears?
>>730735359>rounds chambering from feeds outside of the vehicle>links vulnerable to enemy fire>big ammo crates, possibly loaded with explosive flack or AP, just sitting on the shoulders>this is made extra retarded by the internal magazines that EXIT THE VEHICLE to feed into the lower cannons, instead of just direct feeding through the fuselageIf a bullet dings your chain feeds or a single round stovepipes, you need to get out of your robot to fix it.
>>730736315Metal Gears are the dumbest technology in Metal Gear, including nanomachines. Sokolov had the right idea.SHAGOHOD STRONG.TOTAL BIPIGGER DEATH
>>730735957Takes some getting used to control wise. The game defaulted to normal twin stick controls when the initial launch of the game didn't do so well. Issue with that is that you absolutely DO NOT want to play it that way as a directional damage is a thing and you could be unintentionally presenting your ass to the enemy and taking more damage without realizing it at first. The use of the light blue arrow and the headlights to help you gauge where the front of the vehicle is relative to where you're aiming helps, but is a little too subtle at first.
>>730736667you're right that that particular design sucksactual heavy walkers would look more like tank turrets with legs if they would ever get madei could see them having some extremely niche uses on planets with low gravity and very uneven terrain (i.e. something like the basalt hexagons but for the entire surface instead)
>>730736514
>>730736501>trying to make a low sci fi settingThen think for a bit and notice how awful is the mass in no/low gravity. If anything it would be yet another argument for light drones packing high-punch weapons.
>>730736667Exposed ammo feed is not uncommon for IFVs and SHORAD. If it's meant to do fire support it's fine, not every vehicle is built for spearheading like tanks and saving weight is always valuable.
>>730736518>she doesn't want to see two metal giants fightingPost tits.
>>730737380i can't recall a singular modern ifv with an autocannon that has an external ammo belt/box for the main weapon
>>730735359What are some media with mechs that have walkable legs with deployable wheels, basically leg hybrids. Metal gear with the Walker Gear in 5 and the Grads in MGR really got me to like those kinds of mechs with their flexibility and agility. Also I can't help but think of Rules of Nature playing in my head whenever I see a mech.
>>730737118he's rightyou've been humiliated
>>730737380>SHORADIt kinda looks like one but carriers a pitiable amount of ammo and the legs would be almost useless for that function while being a logistics and maintenance nightmare.
name one (1) mecha game with good and weighty combat
>>730737648>implying that watching two huge puppets kicking eachother is manlylollmaoactual manly shit is spending 2 weeks behind the enemy lines knee-deep in mud while waiting to recieve directions from orbit in your 20mm armed powersuit so you could go shoot some unarmed conscripts at a warehouse somewhere to disrupt the enemy supply
>you can't look up your mech's skirtwhat is even the point?
>>730737808>he's rightNo, you're just going full retard. The equivalent would be pretending that WW2 flying fortress are better than modern fighters.
>>730737898>using a scifi powered armor to kill some forced conscripts is manlyNot helping your case, tranny.
>>730737804Code Geass mechs have foldable wheeled skates to go faster on roads
>>730736315Metal.. gear?
>>730737841Define "good and weighty" because I would've already suggested Brigador if someone else didn't already. Weapons have good sound effects and cause satisfying damage to enemies and the general area when fired. Some of the large bore ballistic weapons can generate so much recoil that your vehicle is pushed backwards while firing, so you have to push forward while firing if you don't want to get pushed around by your own weapons fire. Then you get shit like the audio sonic pulse that flattens entire city blocks, various mortar and artillery weapons that can destroy whole squadrons of vehicles and the surrounding neighborhood, and casually bulldozing through a building to make an entrance or exit makes the environments very reactive to your actions as a player.
>>730738017doing everything to ensure your victory is the manliest shit everno stops given, i'll rape and murder children if high commands orders me to
>>730735359Cool mecha.
>>730735359luv mecha
>>730735359Mech HavocBrigadorChrome HoundsMechwarrior BattletechHawkenMAVLost PlanetThat very specific style of mech, being roughly 12~ feet tall and armed with light vehicle weapons, is probably closest to Brigador or Mech Havoc.
>>730737002you need to switch as early as possible, yeah, otherwise you learn bad habits, but twinstick is ideal for agravs so make sure you leave their controls alone.
>>730737924Flying Fortresses maybe not but the Hawker Tempest is the greatest combat aircraft ever built
>>730735957>play as commies destory civilain houses
>>730737804Slug gunners from Metal Slug are kind of like that but they have tank treads instead of wheels.
>>730736514>requires specialized launching warships, why not just fight with the ships? They're so close
>>730735359Chromehounds
>>730738417You play as the mercenaries under employ of a group of mega corporations looking to destabilize the planet to reconquer it. I think the whole game technically happens in one night, or a series of nights after Great Leader dies.
>>730737828the only shorad i could think of with exposed ammo belts is this piece of shit because they couldn't fit anywhere else physically since it's just a fucking tankette with a gun strapped on topeven m163s have internal ammo belts
>>730738085looks like a 30 year old arcade game and in none of the trailers is there anything you mention, did i get baited by an ai ad or is this genre truly dead
>>730737921I fucking love this series
>>730737924>>730738351Actually a flying fortress isn't even a good comparison since they were actually useful at time. A better equivalent would be le hecking strampunk zeppelin, with lots of cogs and nitroglycerine powered cannons (stored next to the helium tanks). Now that sure would be as good idea as a mech.
>>730738713Are you blind or just retarded? You can clearly see all of that happening in the up-armored trailer the devs themselves released.https://youtu.be/4VhMzf_7qyw?si=MXiUSWUJcqsq2Q5i
>>730737026Based turret-with-legs enjoyer.
>>730738843yep, it was that exact garbageguess you are just the kind that love the smell, taste and texture of shit
No idea, but it REALLY reminds me of some cool ass Lego builds I haven't seen since MOCpages died..
>>730737841Front Mission 5RoboCop: Rogue City
>>730739081tasteless faggot
>>730738623Your tankette just reminded me of the Ontos
>>730739198How are the front mission remakes? Are they just graphic upgrades?
>>730740105Haven't played them (I'd rather emulate and 5 is the best one, anyway) but I've heard bad things, like very sloppy AI "upscaling" of textures:https://www.rpgsite.net/feature/17799-you-need-to-see-front-mission-3-remakes-redone-network-graphics-photograph
>>730739232based>>730739081cringe
>>730735359looks like a rifleman
>>730738623besides the ammo thing why is it shit?
>>730739081>Comes into a mecha thread>Doesn't like mecha
>>730738623even this dinky little bucket makes the attempt to lower the target profile of the ammo box and feed, instead of putting them a mile behind the gun and running extra chain
>>730740105Mostly, but short range weapons basically dominate the field and the melee ones are kind of a joke. You can kind of use long range weapons as openers but FM1 the balance clearly favors short range.
Where are the chicken-leg equivalent of Hobart's Funnies?
>>730735359The ZPU is already perfect, why would you make it worse?
>>730740852Wiesel served it's niche as a small backline tractor/troop carrier, but for multiple reasons:it was designed to be airdropped - so the size and mass limits. airdrops became obsolete in any sort of large-scale engagement after WWII due to advancements in ground to air defences which made their intended purpose (shock-assault behind the enemy lines) useless, as no cargo plane large enough would ever fly close enough to the frontline to deploy them unless you're were fighting thrid world sandniggers in the 70's. now even talifucks have manpads.early 20mm variants did not have FCS and had to be fired manually by a guy peeking out of the hatch (picrel) because the computers were too fragile and bulky to fit into such a small chassis, and by the time minituarization hit - dedicated 20mm shorads without anti-air missiles became nearly obsolete and the hull was way too small to fit both missiles and cannons - more effective, better armored, more versatile and more reliable SPAAs already existed like Gepard 1a2.right now there's a push for modernization and replacement of older Gepards with modernized (in truth-completely redesigned from the ground up) Wiesels 2s as ir-aa stinger carriers and utility/ambulance vehicles now that modern materials can provide at least a modicum of protection and target calculations can be made by a palm-sized raspberry pi. oh, and it's also larger since nobody cares about airdropping anymore, but the Wiesel 1 is the manifestation of the "generals always prepare for the last war" saying.
>>730740852It isn't. Its an air-droppable scout vehicle that can go basically anywhere and is very hard to detect and has the bonus of being able to mount an autocannon or AT-launcher. Its not a frontline vehicle.
>>730742210>>730742462interesting, thanks. i imagined that this thing was meant to exclusively operate in mountainous regions as a sort of mobile anti air or mountain infantry support
