Best vidya with these types of mechs? Do they have a specific name?
>>

"Retarded" is their name.

Get better bait, this one is really really stale, like old enough to vote stale
>>

What if they're in a low gravity setting with jets?
>>
>>730735615
Mechs are as cool as they are impractical and unrealistic
>>
>>730735815
Tanks were realistic but impractical when they first lumbered onto the battlefield. Most didn't even make it to the battlefield and broke down on the way to the front. Give mechs the tech needed and we could see them having a viable combat role. Just like tanks.

Chicken-walkers, or as Brigador defines them, Leg Units.

I highly recommend Brigador, the graphics are pixel-isometric so it's not quite what you're depicting in your pic, but it's still a damn good game.
>multiple classes of vehicle, from light/med/heavy leg mechs, to tanks, to anti-grav flyers that function like attack helicopters
>amazing setting with two books by a guy who's actually been in active combat, both as infantry and in a tank crew
>>
>>730735615
I'd totally play a game with Evangelions or Gundams or similar. "Realistic" mechs are just retarded.
>>
iron harvest has a bunch but it’s mid

gundams are retarded because they are too humanlike
you're just watching two giants fighting, where's the appeal in that? they're either so super advanced they can walk without pilots or it's just an extension of their body.
mastery over machinery? technical limitations? mechanically animalistic posture? companionship with the inanimate? that's where it's at
>>
>>730736315
Metal Gears?
>>
>>730735359
>rounds chambering from feeds outside of the vehicle
>links vulnerable to enemy fire
>big ammo crates, possibly loaded with explosive flack or AP, just sitting on the shoulders
>this is made extra retarded by the internal magazines that EXIT THE VEHICLE to feed into the lower cannons, instead of just direct feeding through the fuselage

If a bullet dings your chain feeds or a single round stovepipes, you need to get out of your robot to fix it.
>>
>>730736315
Metal Gears are the dumbest technology in Metal Gear, including nanomachines. Sokolov had the right idea.
SHAGOHOD STRONG.

>>
>>730735957
Takes some getting used to control wise. The game defaulted to normal twin stick controls when the initial launch of the game didn't do so well. Issue with that is that you absolutely DO NOT want to play it that way as a directional damage is a thing and you could be unintentionally presenting your ass to the enemy and taking more damage without realizing it at first. The use of the light blue arrow and the headlights to help you gauge where the front of the vehicle is relative to where you're aiming helps, but is a little too subtle at first.

you're right that that particular design sucks
actual heavy walkers would look more like tank turrets with legs if they would ever get made
i could see them having some extremely niche uses on planets with low gravity and very uneven terrain (i.e. something like the basalt hexagons but for the entire surface instead)

Then think for a bit and notice how awful is the mass in no/low gravity. If anything it would be yet another argument for light drones packing high-punch weapons.
>>
>>730736667
Exposed ammo feed is not uncommon for IFVs and SHORAD. If it's meant to do fire support it's fine, not every vehicle is built for spearheading like tanks and saving weight is always valuable.

What are some media with mechs that have walkable legs with deployable wheels, basically leg hybrids. Metal gear with the Walker Gear in 5 and the Grads in MGR really got me to like those kinds of mechs with their flexibility and agility.

Also I can't help but think of Rules of Nature playing in my head whenever I see a mech.

Define "good and weighty" because I would've already suggested Brigador if someone else didn't already. Weapons have good sound effects and cause satisfying damage to enemies and the general area when fired. Some of the large bore ballistic weapons can generate so much recoil that your vehicle is pushed backwards while firing, so you have to push forward while firing if you don't want to get pushed around by your own weapons fire. Then you get shit like the audio sonic pulse that flattens entire city blocks, various mortar and artillery weapons that can destroy whole squadrons of vehicles and the surrounding neighborhood, and casually bulldozing through a building to make an entrance or exit makes the environments very reactive to your actions as a player.

Actually a flying fortress isn't even a good comparison since they were actually useful at time. A better equivalent would be le hecking strampunk zeppelin, with lots of cogs and nitroglycerine powered cannons (stored next to the helium tanks). Now that sure would be as good idea as a mech.
>>
>>730738713
Are you blind or just retarded? You can clearly see all of that happening in the up-armored trailer the devs themselves released.

Mostly, but short range weapons basically dominate the field and the melee ones are kind of a joke. You can kind of use long range weapons as openers but FM1 the balance clearly favors short range.

Wiesel served it's niche as a small backline tractor/troop carrier, but for multiple reasons:
it was designed to be airdropped - so the size and mass limits. airdrops became obsolete in any sort of large-scale engagement after WWII due to advancements in ground to air defences which made their intended purpose (shock-assault behind the enemy lines) useless, as no cargo plane large enough would ever fly close enough to the frontline to deploy them unless you're were fighting thrid world sandniggers in the 70's. now even talifucks have manpads.
early 20mm variants did not have FCS and had to be fired manually by a guy peeking out of the hatch (picrel) because the computers were too fragile and bulky to fit into such a small chassis, and by the time minituarization hit - dedicated 20mm shorads without anti-air missiles became nearly obsolete and the hull was way too small to fit both missiles and cannons - more effective, better armored, more versatile and more reliable SPAAs already existed like Gepard 1a2.
right now there's a push for modernization and replacement of older Gepards with modernized (in truth-completely redesigned from the ground up) Wiesels 2s as ir-aa stinger carriers and utility/ambulance vehicles now that modern materials can provide at least a modicum of protection and target calculations can be made by a palm-sized raspberry pi. oh, and it's also larger since nobody cares about airdropping anymore, but the Wiesel 1 is the manifestation of the "generals always prepare for the last war" saying.
>>
>>730740852
It isn't. Its an air-droppable scout vehicle that can go basically anywhere and is very hard to detect and has the bonus of being able to mount an autocannon or AT-launcher. Its not a frontline vehicle.

>>730740327
Is 5 available on modern platforms or would i have to emulate it?
>>
>>730742669
the idea was that you jam a few of these things into a transport, make a breach in enemy air defenses after gaining air superiority and drop them behind the frontline, so you'd have 5-6 of these wieseling around in Fulda, picking off stray Hinds and raping T72s in ass with TOWs.
in reality, your c-130 would get fucked with a Gammon locked by an AWACS peacefully floating somewhere in Polish skies 10 minutes before it could even reach grey zone because it has radar cross-section of a small barn.
practically, their most likely usage in case of a cold-war-gone-hot scenario would be backline support and occasional second-line ATGM/SPAA anti-helicopter emplacements.
>>
>>730743925
You not only have to emulate it but translation-patch it as well (or download a prepatched iso). It was a JP only PS2 release.
