Why do we hate "Aim Down Sights" again?
>>
Because it's unnecessary bullshit. Any other stupid questions?
>>
>>730736259
It brought with it an era where shooting without it meant you had the aim of Michael J Fox.
>>
>old game no have iron sights, only new game
>old game game good, new game bad
>so iron sights bad
This is the ooga booga reasoning of retarded boomers and contrarians.
>>
because it created the norm of inaccurate hipfire vs laser aim ADS. guns dont magically get more spread when fired without looking down sights. in most combat encounters you aim over sights anyway.
>>
>>730736749
retarded nigger
>>
>>730736749
But hip firing should be inaccurate compare to actually aiming, no?

People conflating arena shooters with the slew of FPS games that supplanted it.
I never once played OFP back in the day and went REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE I HAVE TO AIM DOWN A BLURRY IMAGE I just thought that shit was rad.
>>
>>730736259
ADS is good for certain games, but the fact they turned it into an autoaim mechanic for console kids ruined it.
>>
In flat games it's kinda pointless because all you're doing is reducing your fov and sensitivity and it barely increases your immersion.
In VR however sights are a godsend and while you can still hipfire you won't hit shit farther than a few meters.
>>
>>730736259
someone post that guy holding out his arm through the screen
>>
It's a fake mechanic that only exists to restrict movement
>>
>>730736259
I like how Helldivers 2 has three aim modes.
>hip fire: entirely inaccurate because you're literally shooting from hit, but you have full mobility
>shouldered, but not aiming down sights fully: you got a simple circle reticle for aiming, great for close range and staying kind of mobile
>ads: for real when real precision is needed and can handle recoil better, but makes you immobile and vulnerable

Pubg also did a similar thing with its aiming modes.
>>
>>730736952
Ever have to bring a garden hose or anything similar to eye level to aim it? I know women have that problem but it ain't exactly rocket science to point something in the general direction and not be 45 degrees off from the target, especially after a bit of practice.
Longer rangers sure, but how many games actually have you shooting at shit farther than 50 meters away normally?

Right click and get slowed to crawl and wait for an anticheat cooldown to be allowed to shoot where you aim is an even more retarded mechanic than counterstrike's tap the opposite direction you're moving and stop moving every time you want to shoot.
This all being pointless because you can just vet the niggas you play with and not have built in gay mechanics to make the game feel like ass to play because maybe someone will cheat.
>>
>>730736259
whats with all the we threads recently its not even summer yet
>>
>>730736952
It should be inaccurate insofar as you can't accurately aim at something, not that your bullets should magically spread out more.

I'm convinced you guys are by far the most autistic and annoying group of people on internet when it comes to video game discussion. It's like trying to argue with flat earthers.

Thanks for sharing. You sure proved that people who hate TF2 are intelligent.

>>
>>730738676
ADS partially separates movement from shooting which adds a layer of depth to combat dynamic. Instead of just going ADADADAD and spamming jump key while shooting now you need to actually think about your positioning, positioning of your enemies and make conscious decision between sprinting or pulling a trigger. It's valid game mechanic which works best for certain kind of shooters.
>>
ADS should not be used besides tactical shooters
>>
>>730736259
Changed fps genre from 100km/h to 1km/h and was sold as an "improvement".

>>730736259
Because you get this
>>
>>730736259
Because it is just a "walk button" for your camera control, so that console controllers without gyro can vary between wildly swinging the camera around or being too slow to actually react to anything.
This ends up feeding back into the fact that all of these games deemphasize moving while using the camera and vice versa deemphasize using the camera while moving (also a big part of why they have a run button).
The aim assist in these games also takes heavy advantage of this dichotomy to to further gaslight the player into thinking they are playing unassisted while offering heavier assistance.
>>730736952
Gameplay in these games is full of abstractions and inaccuracies, there is no point to using a bad idea just because it seems realistic.
Hipfire's inaccuracy is a bit of an overstated meme that's almost always tweaked heavily so that people still use the camera walk button.
>>730737019
In VR it is just a natural consequence of pointing at things, there's nothing artificial or forced about it.
>>
Because people are retarded.
>b-but you le shoot your gun regardless of whether the sights are in use!
Okay? Slit your throat you fucking idiot. I don't want the sights to cover my screen 24/7 when playing nor do I want to just use some pixels on the screen that have no correlation with the actual gun and are essentially breaking the 4th wall.
>>
because Microsoft are fucking niggers refusing to put gyroscopes in their shitty controllers and drag down the rest of the industry with developer mandated aimbots existing in every shooter
>>
>>730736259
Because, because, because IT RUINED HALO!!!! That's literally it, Halofags are the only main retards bitching about this shit while they defend the shit Halo did to other shooters. Just ignore them, they don't dictate what a shooter is and haven't dictated it for years.
>>
>>730741221
Don't worry, their shitty influence in gaming is ending.
>>
>>730736531
That's real life for everyone except trick/stunt shooters.
>>
>>730736259
I never liked the way ADS shooters play in comparison to non ADS shooters. Basically every single ADS shooter feels the same. You sprint around the map, aim and wait for someone to come down a hallway or something. Or two players see each other and the first one to hit right mouse wins the encounter, because hipfire has retarded spread, forcing you to aim, which slows you down. In comparison to something like Quake Arena or even Halo, it's just a completely different kind of game. Like, how many iterations on the same thing can you realistically play? I've been burnt out on games like this since MW3 and Battlefield 3.
>>
>>730738173
lol
>>
>>730741834
Did Halo 5 have ADS? Because I don't remember 4 or Infinite having it.
>>
>>730736952
Visually the gun is often still on your shoulder
>>
>ADS is dumb and not needed
>but obviously for sniper rifles there will be ADS
>>
>>730742993
It's less ADS and more like a hud overlay with zoom. Usually it's a toggle, not something you hold, while holding CTRL to keep steady aim, you know, when you're already fucking aiming.
>>
>>730742993
>ADS is dumb and not needed
Yep, glad you agree.
>>
The finals did ads vs hipfire the best, cant think of any other pvp fps where both have balanced pros and cons for the entirety of its gameplay loop.
>>
>>730737861
Are there any games that don't do this?
>>
>>730736259
Insurgency got ads right. Only game to do it.
Ads of course works like ads.
Hip fire is a laser beam but you don't aim at a fixed location there is a cone you can aim in and the model will move around before the camera pans. You can get extremely good at hip fire by knowing how to run at angles and adjust within the bubble.
>>
>>730737642
You have never shot a real gun before
>>
>>730736259
I don't why should i hate it? It's good for milsims or something like battlefield.
I would prefer alt fire for more fast paced games or boomer shooters though
>>
>ADS debates sometimes center around the notion that it's a feature meant for console gaming as a way of coping with the limitations of controllers
>Completely ignores the fact that the most well known early examples of the mechanic came from PC Exclusives, and that there were several years worth of console shooters that didn't do it until COD 4 blew up and everyone started trying to copy that in particular.
Why is this?
>>
>>730744962
>in pc its a mechanic
>in console its cope to hide aimbot
you answered yourself
>>
>>730742065
retard who has never shot a gun
>>
>>730736259
Because IRL your eyesight is binocular, which makes all sorts of funny things happen when you look down your sights. But when you look at an image on your monitor it's 2d, and those funny things don't happen at all. Image of sights don't work the way irl sights work.
>>
>>730736259
it makes PCfags cry and shit and stomp on the ground because they can't twitch react anymore.

lmao, atp just stop giving console niggers games they cant play
>>
>>730736259
I don't hate the mechanic, it depends entirely on the context of the game. faster paced movement games probably shouldn't have it outside of snipers because it slows down the game, but something like a military shooter should have it, though I do think it shouldn't lock on as hard as it does for console shooters, or shooters with crossplay. Valve had it right when they segregated xbox counterstrike and PC counterstrike all those years ago

I've done drills where I had to hipfire. one where you stop reloading a rifle and shoot the chambered round at 15 yards.

what the fuck
>>
>>730737336
but in HD2 hip fire does slow you down significantly, and shouldered/ADS have the same accuracy but ADS gives you a better sight picture/alignment
>>
>>730736259
Your character is already aiming down the sights. How do you aim even more down sights?
>>
>>730747756
why are you in this thread, gachabrain? back to your containment shithole
>>
>>730736259
Ready or not did it pretty decently, where "hip-fire" is really just low ready, and the accuracy is pretty decent but ADS gives you much better precision for when you actually need it

Functionally, the "cone of fire" that usually comes with hipfiring is far smaller, so that it's still useful to do while giving you the option to slow down and get laser accurate

aiming down sights and blasting is satisfying but hip fire shouldn't be inaccurate
>>
>>730748342
Pretty much what Project Silverfish does as well. You're accurate enough 'from the hip' that it's worth doing if there's a bunch of people up in your grill, up to about fifteen feet or so. After that it's more of a crapshoot but you won't be sending rounds off at absurd angles or anything.
>>
It's an excuse to slow movement down and also obstructs your vision/narrows your fov.

it basically only exists to accommodate aim assist mechanics that only exist to make up for the fact that consoleniggers can't aim because controllers have awfully designed stick input and its easier to give everyone increasingly stronger aimbots than unfuck their hardware
>>
Dirty Bomb did it the best where ads was really only there to help you aim at targets far away but no more accurate than hipfire (which was already pretty tight).
>>
>>730748527

Ah yes because aim assist with a crosshair is an unsolved computer science problem
>>
>be ecchi dev
>include ADS for the sole purpose of upskirting your protag
>in a later patch, make ADSing cut the spread on the shotgun in half based on a player suggestion

Not really relevant to the topic at hand but it made me laugh when I remembered.

it is because aim assist with a crosshair is so blatant that even casualfags notice it, hence why halo is and always will be babbys first fps
holding down the magic trigger button turns off their perception that the game is playing itself
>>
>>730748751
operation flashpoint is the first one I can remember. but the guns were pretty accurate even without ADS.
>>
>>730748751
Operation Flashpoint had that. If you don't know or remember, it was Arma before Arma, literally.
Battlefield 1942 had ADS, except the weapon models weren't detailed enough, so it was just a zoom.
Call of Duty, a PC exclusive, popularized fully modeled ADS as we know it today.
>>
>>730746730
What's the point of toggle outside of camping a spot?
>>
>>730749051
Not joking but aim assist was extremely buffed since 2014 or so.

Aim assist wasn't auto aim in older mp games. The assist worked at 5 meters or so. ADS at medium range decreased sensitivity automatically for easier control.

This webm is auto aim.
