The 2500k of our time
no, it's the R7 5700X
>>730739178this is cope from latelets who missed out
>>730739178fpbp
>>730738715I went with the 9800X3D instead for future proofing. Feeling smug.
any X3D will work because cache is everything nowadays
>>730738715Nope 5600 = 2500k 5700x = 2600k
>>730739849I still have no idea what the whole 3D shit even means and why some games really benefit from it and some dont
>>730739178>Bought 5700X>2 weeks later>5700X3d is announcedI have shit luck
>>730738715>mfw I had 2500k>mfw I now have 9800x3d>mfw I have probably picked the two longest lasting cpus of our timeNo face.
>>730738715No, it's my 3600
>>730738715My 2500k is still in use. Tossed it into a Frankenstein computer for my living room.It still can handle a good chunk of modern games.
>tfw first time building my PC >excitedly open my 9800x3d from the plastic clamshell>it falls flat on the floor>little piece of green ceramic glass got chipped off>break out in a cold sweat, felt my heart rate skyrocket>assemble my PC as fast as I can just so i open-air test>it boots into BIOS
>>730738715lol no. It would be the 3700x.I see this as the 4770k which people still refuse to let go.
>>730738715Ryzen 7 - 3700Xshould upgrade?
>>730742348there's an entire layer of L3 cache stacked on the chipin the 5000 and 7000 X3Ds it's on the top side of the chip, on the 9000 X3D it's on the bottom, which lets them clock the actual CPU silicon higher because the L3 layer isn't a warm blankie over the the CPU
I got a 5600x, do I replace it with a 5700X3D? Not really, nothing I play has CPU related issues and I'm not interested in any upcoming titles. Maybe I can squeeze out more frames for Dota 2 but I already get 150+fps on a 180hz display.
>>730738715I think my 9800x3d will last even longer, I don't see how games are gonna need more than this. UE5 will somehow find a way though.
>>730742348we put a lil ram in the CPU
>>730744413>Yo dawg I heard you like computers so we put computers in your computer parts
>>730742348There's a vertical layer of cache on the chip, which allows for more, fast cache.Cache is so extremely fast that it makes RAM look slow in comparison. It's reserved for the most accessed data, and the CPU can directly interact with cache, which ignores the latency between CPU and RAM.Ideally cache would be massive, but historically the problem is that the bigger the cache, the slower it is. And 3D cache is AMD's solution to that problem. And games love cache, because games have a lot of different variables and a lot of different things that have to be accessed and done every tick.In regular programs, like rendering, compression, decompression, cache is not as important. That's the whole productivity meme that Intel shills and fanatics were pushing while trying to justify their permanently damaged i9 14900k.
>buy 5800x3d>get same performance as intels latest cpu that is 3 generations newer
>>730745517Partly because micr*soft only recently started doing AMD focused optimizations for Windows.Until now, they only cared about Intel.
>>730739178>it's the R7 5700XNo it's not, wtf? In what way could it be?
The 3770k of our time.
>>730739807This. FutureproofGods and buynowChads won, but I'm not proud of it. It's only going to get worse.
>>730745756more like Xeon
>>730744659>he doesn't know about Intel Management Engine
>>730745625Only took 7 years of AMD spanking the everloving shit out of intel for MS is actually make windows not gimp anything that doesn't have GenuineIntel in the id string huh. Of course windows 10 users don't see this benefit.
>>7307457255700X3D was discontinued, while the 5700X is still being made.
>>730745874Zen 6 and upcoming Intels are reportedly getting like 200+ MBs of cache
>>730744659Yeah, I mean a GPU is basically a small self-contained PC with its own ram and the GPU us just a highly advanced CPU. At least I think so.
>>730738715no, the 5800x3d was too expensive at the time and is still overkill for most games. 2500k was good because it was cheap and could play everything for years
>>730738715Oh yeah, that's what I have. Had it for a while now.
>>730743569I'm using the same cpu and I'm gonna wait until Zen 6 at least. I can run all my games fine at the moment.
The 5800X3D has the same core architecture as the 5800X but it runs at 11% lower base and 4% lower boost clocks. The lower clocks are in exchange for an extra 64MB of cache (96MB up from 32MB) and around 40% more money. For most real-world tasks performance is comparable to the 5800X. Cache sensitive scenarios such as low res. canned game benchmarks with a 5090 benefit at the cost of everything else. Be wary of sponsored reviews with cherry picked games that showcase the wins, conveniently ignore frame drops and gloss over the losses. Also watch out for AMD’s army of Neanderthal social media accounts on reddit, forums and youtube, they will be singing their own praises as usual. Instead of focusing on real-world performance, AMD’s marketers aim to dupe consumers with bankrolled headlines.
i5 12600K will be the i5 2500K of our time.
The 3600 deserves more respect. 50$ cpu with that kind of performance is unheard of especially today
>>7307459282673V2 my beloved...
>>7307461535700X3D had MSRP of $250 and it was like 5-10% slower than 5800X3D for close to half of its MSRP.The point is that no matter what AM4 build you got, like first gen Ryzen from 2017 or extremely popular 3600, you could easily overhaul your PC by just replacing a CPU and it's still in the top.I upgraded from 3600 to 5700X3D last year.
>>730739178gonna kill myself bro
>>730746035That's good! I mean I hope that pc's continue to improve. I'm glad I can play Cyberspunk at over 100fps and it looks pretty. But I feel bad for anyone who was holding off and now RAM and SSD's are ridiculous. GPU's are still ridiculous but not as bad as in the past.
>>730746573last year I was like if I'm gonna upgrade to a 5800X3D I might as well just go AM5. A 7600 is about as good as a 5800X3D. Then I put it off and shit's fucked
honestly I felt the jump to am5 wasn't worth it even before RAM got all fucked up. 9800x3d is a pretty decent uplift but it still would have been like $800
>>730738715>make this and 5700x3D>only sell them for a year and they take them off the stores Why?
>>730747936Because new shit came out. They have to dedicate production capacity to that.>wtf why don't companies just make the same stuff forever
>>730747936no more of that silicon leftit's going to be funny when they make new AM4 chips though. I bet they're gonna make an $800 current process node 9700X3D-AM4
>>730747414gpus are literally MSRP now
I'm replacing my 5950X for a 9950X3D
I don't think that that many people are aware just hard current memory shortages fucked up the hardware adoption and gaming.PS6 was supposed to be announced and released in 2026-27. With the way things are, if they were to release it, even 24GB of RAM would be a lot and expensive. And 24GB of RAM is what entry level PC has these days - 16GB of RAM and 8GB of VRAM, which is something a lot of people already had before the beginning of this generation. They could delay PS6, but with the potential threat of next gen Xbox (dead brand, but so was Nintendo with Wii U) they'll try not to repeat the 360 situation. In 8 years, 32GB of RAM not only will be plenty, but still a lot for games. There would be little initiative to switch from AM4, if the prices stay the same. They would have to make DDR4 compatible boards for AM5 and new Intels to actually sell new CPUs.
>>730746453>yidu99>yidu>yid>loves intel
>>730747936Those chips are fundamentally just the spare silicon from making the epyc Milan-X chips so when production of that ended it all dried up. The only reason the 5700x3d even exists is AMD ended up with a bunch of shit bins not usable for epyc.
>>730748294GPU's are going to be affected by memory shortages too, Nvidia have already confirmed they're raising the price
>>730748294Not in Europe... No 5090 under 3200€
