All interactive digital entertainment needs to be preserved.

All of it.

That Quest 64 is held up as a monumental title to N64 fans speaks of the significance of the gap between them and real gamers. This was never a good game and will never be a good game.
>>
The GBC port was overall better as a game, i have fond memories of pulling an all-nighter trying to beat this in 1 session though
>>
Assets should be preserved. It's a huge loss for humanity that everyone has to recreate the wheel because law prohibits copy rights for the thousand times it was done before.
People love New Vegas being cranked out in a year because it basically had all the assets created to start from. Imagine the boon to humanity an entire library of game assets would be.
AI is basically that as far as 2d art and written word goes but 3d assets are severely lacking and probably will be until 3d scanners become a handheld thing every idiot carries around.

>That Quest 64 is held up as a monumental title to N64 fans
Anon, this is the first time I have heard somebody say this.
Even Youtube video essays from Nintendo diehards talk about how much of a mess the game is, with plotlines that come out of nowhere, and either never conclude or stop at brick wall.

You must be new to the discourse around the game, which to this day has people with split tongues insisting it's actually secretly a good game and unfinished and there's a great game in there and it's even better than PS1 RPGs.
>>
Op should update their readme.

show me the discourse

...I'm curious about this Quest 64 apologist discourse. Where is it even happening?

I made it up, cause I'm fuckin' crazzay

Oh, you rascal!

I don't know why my parents got me this game but I never got further than the second town in the game.

Quest 64 proves the argument true that open world = emptiness. If you think about it, it attempted many unique concepts, but just may have relied too hard on being the first 3D RPG. Even FF7 was less ambitious on going fully 3D at the time because Squaresoft understood the lingering viability of beautifully hand drawn backgrounds against 3D models since 3D models were still primitive and had not yet reached the SNES era refined pixel art mastery.

Quest 64 has
- a giant world (like Breath of the Wild)
- Elemental skill trees allowing you to choose your experience
- No Story, pure lore (like Elden Ring)
- a mixture of turn based and action (like FF7:Remake)

It could have ironically been a great game if it came out today, but to do so would require us to live in a world where Quest 64 was a success. If anything RPG gamers should be kissing Quest 64's cartridge for being so bad, it may have actually enabled other studios to refine the ideas it introduced.
Lastly, the battle theme still lives rents free in my head:

>we have FF7's battle theme at home

lol so true. I grew up with the N64 and didn't experience FF7 until years later but it would make sense they ripped it off.

It's like the kind of fake video game you'd see in some early 80s cgi movie.
