I think the first time I married Ysolda because of her haircut, voice, easy quest, and being easy to run into.Other times I usually just pick the most appealing female to match my PC race. Don't recall ever marrying a dude even on female characters, but maybe I did once. It feels weird though since they just kinda hang out at home.Even without mods, you can set NPCs as marriage available with the console, assuming they have voice lines, so I think I was always able to find someone that way even on Bosmer or whatever.Also I have never married Lydia because I think her voice lines are annoying and sound sarcastic.
