I don't think there's anything more sovlful than jrpgs. They are the best vidya genre simply because they enrich your soul. You go on an adventure in a colorful weird world while listening to the best vidya music and enjoying a story while collecting a cast of characters with their backstories and quirks. You visit villages and help people and then defeat the big bad through friendship. When you play a comfy jrpg your soul get healed.
>>730747057I really despise them the older I get, but I still need to play one every now and then.
>>730747057I love 6 and don't know why it's hated
>>730747427I don't hate it, but I personally just found it way less interesting than the rest. Bomb-ass aesthetics though, at least on the SFC.
>>730747057This only applies to DQ. Fatlus has never written a good game.
>>730747707>Fatlus has never written a good game.
>>730747634The DS version is also especially great because of all the new sprite poses and variations making cutscenes feel a lot more smooth than the other two games.
>>730747057Eh, I tried playing FFVIII again recently and it did absolutely nothing for me, it’s my favourite JRPG too. Feels rough.
>>730747893Noted. I've seen the remade Terry cutscene and appreciate that, but from what I've heard of the music it's inferior across the board which is a big loss to me. Maybe I'll give it a shot some day though.
Been playing Dragon Warrior 3 for the first time since I got my GBC flashcart. I think turn based RPG's are great on the Gameboy color because besides giving my eyes a break from back lit screens, it's easy to kill time in a doctors office catching a pidgey. The more reckless thing would be to play your GBC at red lights where you can get honked at WELL IM SORRY SOME OF US NEED TO TRAIN OUR LUGIAS
>>730747707>Fatlus has never written a good game.you probably only have played persoyna to say this
I don't have patience for random battles anymore
>>730747057I despise most JRPGs because of ridiculous amounts of really boring random encounters.TRPGs are a little better in that regard as they're more impactful on top of being less common, some don't even have random encounters in the first place.
>>730747875Well this was vanillaware, so...
>>730747057This is factually correct
>>730747057Trails is the best for this since even the random NPCs have stories.
Oh Brother. Don't talk about Things without not only assuming because there exists only one Type of Soul Food and that is the Turf that is being shared with Brothers. We break down the brown Clay and it is being shitsucked.
>>730750703Are there any trails games that aren't C tier anime slop?
>>730751317nta but I liked the first two trails in the sky games, meant to play the third at some point but never did. I tried the first cold steel game and I wouldn't recommend that, pure slop. I'm not planning on picking it up since I already played and liked the original, but I think the trails in the sky remake was supposed to be good.
>>730747057I got the Dragon Quest III remake for Christmas and have been playing it for the first time. At last I truly understand. What a game
I honestly don't even care about the story that much. I just like going on adventures and fighting monsters with a team with their own roles.
>>730751697Good to hear, is it your first DQ game? Will you be trying 1&2 after or any any other one in mind?
>>730747057Not htat one.
>>730747057I genuinely think playing lots of JRPGs makes you a better person over time.
>>730750703>Which many of them are optional and you need to mash confirm button to exhaust their dialogue and repeat after everytime you advance the story>People really think this is a good worldbuilding method.
throw me some recs for jRPGs on steam, shelf with anything tagged as "jrpg" according to steam with hours played as reference.
>>730755756Dothack.>ShenmueBased. Why tf you put it there?
>>730755756play Ys: Oath in Felghana, then maybe try the other games if you like it.
>>730747057I won't deny they're soulful but the 4 niggas in a row gameplay just doesn't do it for me.
>>730747057Only if they're classic JRPGs like DQ. Modern setting slop like modern FF and Persona are gay.
>>730756042>Why tf you put it there? It's a dynamic collection that uses the jRPG tag so someone on Steam thinks it belongs there>>730756156I have before it was on Steam, honestly probably wouldn't mind playing it again since it's goated and it's been a long time; also played Napishtim on PS2, only Napishtim engine Ys I honestly didn't play was Origin; despite my 14hrs on it I have 0 recollection and it's got some modern Windows issues.
>>730755013Well if you see it as a checklist, obviously you're not going to enjoy it. What fans like about it is the fact that NPCs are engaging, and make you WANT to check up on them.
