You boomers always claim gaming in general was better in the past, but why? Was it actually better or are you just a nostalgiafag?
>>
No it wasn't better, yes they're nostalgiafagging, and it doesn't matter regardless because other people shouldn't dictate what you like. If people in my age bracket refuse to play modern games I don't care. If people in your age bracket refuse to play games I grew up with I also don't care.

I miss going to Hollywood Video and going to the GameCrazy and I'm an 03 zoomer
>>
Just nostalgia. Today's games might be corporate dogshit but at least you have the choice to play older games.
>>
>>730747786
kids now are actually playing older games or at least bastardized remakes of them

Yes.
You wouldn't get it.
>>

I think that's great honestly. A lot of old games are janl dogshit but there's definitely a lot of gems there too. Something that will resonate with everyone regardless of age, and is now more accessible than ever.

Rose tinted goggles and all that

kinda ?
there was pros and cons to each to be honest.
>now
>gaming is cheaper than it's ever been. you can get a old rig for cheap that can play everything up to and including ps3 emulation and tons of pc games that can run most things in the 2010's, not to mention piracy
>no real exclusives means outside of nintendo you aren't really locked out of games for the most part if you don't get a specific console.
>every port is more or less identical to each other, no more games that are super far from arcade perfect
>online play
>then
>the games were just better
>lacking technology meant that places got to exist that could never today like arcades and game rental stores.
>gaming was more social. back in the day me and friends constantly met up to play fighting games, FPS', RTS', even some fun party games and couch co-op stuff, weekends meant constantly having friends round. picking something to play in a rental store then a weekend of fun, now it's just mates popping into a discord server if they can be bothered.

gaming now is very isolated but also very affordable, easily the most affordable hobby you can have unless you want a super computer to play the latest games and playing old stuff is easier than ever and even online, gaming now is infinitely more convenient but we did lose a chunk of the soul that came with that convenience. if you only play single player stuff or don't use games as a social outlet then now is 100% a better time for games for the emulation side of things alone. but most of my time gaming was with people, in an arcade or with friends and the few times i do get to recreate that it feels like a highlight of the year.

What IS the argument for gaming being better in the past? Maybe it was better before crypto when hardware was super cheap but there's nothing stopping me from playing all the good old games of eras past other than all the early 90s PC games that never got archived.
>>
>>730747578
Less browns
>>
it actually was. games weren't casual experiences, you actually got to think and play for yourself. modern gaming is cool because indie devs can emulate oldschool style games, but it used to be the rule and not exceptions
>>
>>730748608
Not the same.
You weren't there, you don't know what we lost.
>>
>>730749275
I am old, I just lived in a third world country where the vast majority of people were too backwards to even work a computer and all the arcades were dingy machines at cinema theatres.
All I lost was... having an incredibly limited selection of games for purchase (my dad worked for a games magazine so we actually got a ton of free PC games, I was one of the first people in my country to play on a Dreamcast and a PS2) and not much else?

>actually, modern games are good too!
>never mind the demakes and barely-changed sequels that are selling more than modern games...

>Modern AAA games are trash
>AA games are now just Nintendo + a handful of other JP studios
>The wait between games of a same developer is 5x longer than it used to be
That being said we got it better these days
Especially since so many older games are being polished and ported on modern hardware, so you can have the best of both worlds

Popular video games were much more varied. Smaller dev teams were making games they wanted to play for people who wanted to play them. You had FPS, RPGs, Strategy, Fighting Platformers releasing all the time and everyone loved them.

It's just the endless fucking bait threads over and over and fucking over again

yes, it was a LOT better in the past, but I am not going to detail all the reasons why as some of you fags will just deny and argue about it, so go fuck yourself.
>>
Anytime someone uses the term "demake" it's always coupled with the most retarded take imaginable.
>>
>>730749002
this is the actual reason
>>
>>730747578
There was constant forward progress in computers and gaming matched it.
This continued up until x86 home computers overtook consoles completely in the 2000s (both in terms of cost and performance), but the industry wanted to stay retarded on consoles because of the growing normalfag audience.
Current progress is just very slow and the stagnancy is very obvious.

It was the time when development teams were not too big yet so their games felt both professional and heartfelt. Now you can only get either indie games with a budget of two kebabs or huge AAA(A) projects that lack soul because every design decision is market-tested and sanitized.

Out of curiosity, is a store hands you an opened cased where the clerk picks out a disc with their hands and inserts it into the case. . . does it -legally- count as a brand new game they're giving to you?

How do you know the disc hasn't been played on beforehand by staff etc.

>>
>>730747578
because games in the past were fun, while modern games only exist to preach wokeness
