Seeing the current development in video gaming I was thinking if retro gaming will die with us.I've witnessed the evolution from 8bit to current gen games and I enjoy playing games from all generations between these. And most games are relativly easy accessable thanks to open source projects, online archives and 3rd party hardware developers. But will future generations have the same possibilities?Let's take the evolution of Xbox. With every new generation it get's harder to keep the games playable. Maybe the next gen will just be an app in your SmartTV and you need a Game Pass subscription to stream games from the cloud. No hardware, no physical copies. The data exists exclusivly on Microsoft servers and once a game is taken offline it vanishes forever. And even if they make a new hardware console with discs. Each game has up to 100GB today but the prices for storage have barely decreased in the last 10 years. So it becomes unaffordable to backup games locally. And I see a lot of genZ and zoomers grow up with mobile games and online games. Sure, there will be a community that keeps Fortnite and Minecraft alive but most online games won't be playable when they've grown up.What's your opionion?

>>730770157Games as a stream service will fuck up future generations and they wont even realize it. However I feel there will always be communities focused on fighting this, partly because fucking with customers always causes a counter reaction. In this case, the harder companies try to paywall games, the harder pirates will pirate.
>>730770317Nice bait, I'm a zoomie ps2 games are perfectly playable
>>730770157Venture capitalists have tried cloud gaming at least a dozen times in my lifetime and failed every time due to latency, nobody will play games with dogshit controls regardless of how badly management wants this not to be true. The real danger is cloud integrated games like MS Flight simulator and the last few call of duty's that stream assets from the cloud to limit install size, these games are fucked even in singleplayer once the plug is pulled.
>>730772308Secondary to this, online multiplayer games are doomed regardless thanks to undetectable ML derived cheating which is currently in its infancy.
