was this the last good zelda game?
>>730770778No, TotK was excellent. TP is in my top 3, however. There are no bad Zelda games.
>>730770778Was zelda ever good? No, you merely were tricked into liking it.
>>730770874tricked by who?
>>730770874>Was zelda ever goo-ACK
>>730770778Tears of the Kingdom. I don't' think there's ever been a bad zelda game.
No, this is. Even though it's derivative nostalgia pandering.
>>730771016having every dungeon be an almost 1-1 copy of aLttP is such a strange choice. Id get it if it was just the first 3 as a nostalgiabait hook, but all of them? Still fun though.
>>730770778
>>730770778No, it was part of the Aonuma trilogy of dogshit - WW/TP/SS (not including all the awful handheld games from that era). BOTW was the first console Zelda since then that was decent, but went too far in an opposite direction which has been disastrous for other reasons.MM, ironically, was the last top tier console Zelda that embodied everything good of the series. That's because Koizumi was there, and Miyamoto's influence was still somewhat present.
>>730770985Adventure of Link is not only great, but it's one of the best entries in the series. Detractors are typically retards who can't handle the differences and have nothing substantial to say. It certainly plays better than the VAST majority of acclaimed NES games. I'd replay AoL over any post 2000 Zelda any day.
>>730772498>which has been disastrousbest selling Zelda of all time btw>MM, ironically, was the last top tier console Zeldaholy reddit
>>730770874no, you were tricked into liking not liking it
>>730772584I said the effects of BOTW, retard. The game itself is good - even excellent. Minecraft is also the greatest selling game of all time, so they just copied it wholesale lol. I guess CoD is also one of the greatest franchises ever too, huh? It's disastrous because every new Zelda is going to be a BOTW clone without understanding why it was a breathe for fresh air. A Zelda title that wasn't railroaded and tutorialized, actually felt like an adventure, and wasn't actively condescending to you. The problem is that now, Nintendo thinks it's gay shrines and physics retardation was key to its success. Now Zelda will never have decent combat, weapon movesets or dungeons again. No, gifs of people exploiting it's awful slowmo trash, and autistic setups for physics interaction does not equal good combat.
>>730772826>Breath of fresh airI'm going to bed
>>730772967Good night anon ily <3
>>730770778No, it was the first bad LoZ game.
I liked it but even at the time while playing it was rolling my eyes and saying “wow this is really cliche and edgy just for the sake of it”
>>730773695but did you like it?
>>730772561AoL is now praised? What YouTuber made a video liking it?
>>730773942Projared had a few randomized series of it that were really really great. He never glazed it, though.
>>730771016Was just about to post this. Don't care about arguments against it, it was fun.
>>730770778Echoes of Wisdom was pretty fun, but not much of a zelda game, really.
>>730772561The only things AoL has going for it are its music (like, two songs) and decent combat (for an NES game). The platforming and exploration is mediocre as hell and it has nothing else to offer.
>>730774067>KEKjared
>>730770778ALBW was the last.
OoT+MM are 2 of my favourite ever games but I didn't care much for the following 3d Zelda games (WW, TP, SS). I wouldn't say that they are bad games but all 3 seemed to be lacking in vision, felt like the dungeons were just going by the numbers, there was also an increasing amount of bullshit and slow textboxes sprinkled on top. I will never replay any of these 3 games.BotW was a return to form, despite me much preferring a linear format for Zelda over a sandbox, there was clearly that same level of OoT passion back. The game was polished and fun.
>>730770778Yeah probably. Its not my favorite, but I'd rather replay it again over botw
>5 hr tutorial>bug hunting>wolf sections>Terrible pacing>Ganondorf was behind it all!>Just as easy as Wind Waker>Dull ugly version of OoT>Terrible Anime story>Useless items>Dungeons are glorified set pieces>Overworld is somehow worse than the N64 games.it was the first bad one
>>7307707788.8 was too kindI honestly think the longer development hurt this game so they could delay until the wii release. They just had to add stupid shit into the game instead of just making OOT 2.0. WW was blessed with a rushed dev cycle before they could add bloat.
>>730777796>5 hr tutorialDid you get filtered by the goats or something? That shit is an hour long tops
>>730777903>WW was blessed with a rushed dev cycleWW is the most blatantly unfinished game in the series. And that's why it's the most deserving of a remake.
>>730778129I think WW was the last game I had any hope that game developers might go back and actually finish an unfinished game
>>730770778It's not the last good game in the franchise, but it is pretty much the last proper Zelda game from the NES original to TP. I'd count the DS games as well. They're actually very much Zelda games overall even though they have a "main gimmick" as their open world exploration. For as much as you could say that about sailing in Wind Waker, it was ultimately just a vehicle that you could seamlessly jump out of and swim like normal, and go up on any surface you found on the sea. The DS games are different in that they swap out the core mechanics for a ferry or a train with completely different rules for large parts of the game. But everything in the "areas" you go to and their dungeons and boss battles is Zelda-core.Sorry, but BotW/TotK are not evolutions of Zelda 1. They're more like "inspired by". OoT is essentially Zelda 1 with a bit more plot-gating on its world, which is easy to overlook when the cutscenes makes it feel like it's "just a linear game." But nothing is actually sealed off if Link can get to it. You can even enter some of the dungeons outside of Navi's walkthrough. People just say they're linear because they added a guide telling you "what to do next."TP is just OoT but with a bit more linearity. Ultiaimtely they follow the same progression-template as Zelda 1. Skyward Sword doesn't because it's actually overworlds that appear/disappear based on where you are in the plot, making it more Mario-esque. BotW/TotK doesn't, because getting every item you'll ever need in the tutorial and then having 120 mini-dungeons and 4 lite-dungeons that never progress the scope of the gameplay further, is antithetical to Zelda. It was a series about discovering stuff in a world so that you gradually learn where things are, and use things you've found to access places you couldn't previously get to. When you can just jump over any obstacle in any order, it's no longer Zelda-core. It's sort of a different genre altogether, more like State of Decay.
>>730778237>I'd count the DS games as wellstopped reading
>>730778237Spirit Tracks and my second playthrough of Squidward Sword are the only times I ever dropped a Zelda. I was just so bored
>>730778413I didn't say they were good, because "Good" or "Bad" isn't the qualifier for "Zelda". I'm just saying the DS games technically have all of the same ingredients as the other pre-SS Zeldas to be True Zelda games.
WHY ISN'T THIS ON MY SWITCH 2 YETI WANT IT NOW DAMNITWHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOUNINTENDOOOOOO
>>730778720You'll get the gamecube version on NSO and be happy
>>730778813GIVE IT TO MEILL TAKE ITILL EAT THAT SHIT ALL YEAR LONGJUST FUCKING GIVE IT TO ME
>>730778872Real talk though, I expect them to shit out a double pack for WW and TP HD for Zelda's 40th anniversary. Similar to the Galaxy double pack. They'll charge $80 and it will sell well. The games are already finished, so its a low risk release. TPHD being 10 years old this year.
>>730777987>He's defending wrangling goats and chasing monkeys
>>730778983It should happen this year but I said that during the switch 1's lifetime too so I won't get my hopes up.
>>730773942aol is praised for trying to be different from zelda 1 and introducing a lot of things that would appear later in the franchise, although in a different way i think a proper remake made by devs who actually like the game could be one of the best zeldas in the franchise, but only if it's a passion project and not a corporate memberberry product
>>730779271the opening to TP is kino world building. I've enjoyed it the dozens of times I've replayed the game. Even if you disagree you are wrong about how long it takes. https://youtu.be/V_POuBUuSKA
>>730778983I don't see them shitting out a WW port now that it's on the Gamecube sub. They use that library to market the subscription service. But we have seen them both release Mario 64 in a port and also put it in the emulator. Of course the WWHD port could be marketed differently.I hope TP can get a new port by Tantalus. They made the camera broken in the Wii U port but their work on SSHD had an excellent camera and the remaster job was overall better. That would mean a 60fps port of TP with smoother camera controls, and perferably restored horseback riding. I think Aonuma said "can you make the horse better?" and they fucked it up and he didn't reject the result.
No.
>>730778237>TP is just OoT but with a bit more linearity>a bitThat is a massive understatement. OOT is still mostly linear for the initial child portion, I'll give you that. I guess you could leave Dodongo's Cavern after getting the bombs and go do the Zora stuff, even if there's no reason to do things that way.In OOT, the 'expected' order of the first three adult dungeons is Forest->Fire->Water. However, you can also do Fire->Forest->Water or Forest->Water->Fire. And then there's Shadow and Spirit, which you can do in any order. It's less variations than ALTTP, but you are still given options.TP doesn't have any of this. Unless you do some glitch/speedrun shit and break progression, you will be doing Forest->Mines->Lakebed->Arbiter's->Snowpeak->Temple of Time->Sky->Palace->Hyrule Castle. You will get Epona back when the game gives you her back. You will only fight King Bulbin when the game sets him directly in front of you. You will only work toward finding a way to restore Ilia's memories when the game makes it an objective. It's the same erasure of non-linearity that plagues everything post-N64 and pre-BOTW. Even TP's dungeons are massively streamlined compared to basically everything pre-WW.
>>730773942I like it better than the first Zelda. Cope.>>730774228Name 5 better NES games.
>>730779724>I guess you could leave Dodongo's Cavern after getting the bombs and go do the Zora stuffI did this because fuck the rules
>>730770778I enjoyed BOTW but at the same time it's not really Zelda. Other than that yes, SS was pretty shit even though it has a charm to it, TOTK is just ass though.
>>730779493TP at 60 fps would be awesome. If they don't do it at least the PC port will be out within the next 5 years
>>730773942I liked way before these contrary faggots did Zelda 2 was a true sequel before sequel meant a rehash. Zelda 2 was a game that perfected the combat system yet everything else was shit and they threw everything out and went back to the old shit. That was successful for 2 decades until they got tired of it. Then Twilight Princess was the resurrection but guess what everything again was fucking lacking, then Skyward Sword happened and they got tired with the formula AGAINEnd my suffering, I am going to be 60 or dead when I finally get the Zelda game I want

>>730779423theres literally nothing wrong with the goat herding. he lives in a small farming village, and his job is herding goats. Its worldbuilding, and the segment takes maybe 5 minutes
>>730770874All games originated from the famicom
>>730779597>ages worse than seasonsYou cant be this retarded.
>>730770778It was the last 3D Zelda that followed the old formula even if Aonuma hated making it and dragged his feet.Everything after that has been Skyward Sword's nuformula.>>730772498SS has very little in common with the older games.SS was largely a disaster, because it could not follow basic best practices of game design for some reason.BotW is a less focused version of SS that gives up on presenting even a semblance of structure, but the core of it is identical.>>730778129>RemakeModern Nintendo couldn't finish that game.
>>730770778TP wasnt even a good zelda game. The intro took too long and was lame. The dungeons were super linear.the over world stuff was super linear and boring. It had the absolute worst itemization out of any zelda game, other than the double hookshotMaybe it had a good boss fight? i forget. The game got 8/10 on release from a certain critic and zelda fanboys cricified him for not giving the game the obligatory +2 zelda bonus, but when you play the game you realize he did.
>>730782982>SS>not the OoT formulaIt 100% is. You don't get to group it in with the new games arbitrarily. >>730783025It has the best dungeons in the series
>>730783169>It 100% is. You don't get to group it in with the new games arbitrarily. It pays some lip service to it at best.It discards most of the old formula in favor of reducing everything to very self-contained puzzles and it has a level select rather than a more deliberately structured overworld, which the new games bloat into an unstructured open world level select. Whenever it stops being completely self-contained to just the room you are in, such as with Ancient Cistern's central gimmick, it will apologetically point the solution out to the player so that they don't have to think about it.There isn't even a change of pace with the combat, because that is also just self-contained puzzles with rigidly defined solutions.
