>I'm now seeing twentysomething youtubers praise Skyrim as a masterpiece because it was one of the one games per year their mommma bought when they were 8 years old so they played it for hundreds of hours because they had no standardsWhy didn't we gatekeep children out of video games?
>>730778732Oblivion>Morrowind>Skyrim Ideal TES would be Morrowind RPG mechanics leveling and lore with Oblivion quests and Skyrim graphics
>Skyrim was the last good Bethesda game

>>730778732>it was one of the one games per year their mommma bought when they were 8 years old so they played it for hundreds of hours because they had no standardsThis was me when I was 13 and I thought Skyrim was shallow, mindless slop even back then. My disappointment only grew the more I played the game, saving and reloading dialogue options and realizing nothing changes because Skyrim is not an RPG. I remember I could finish quests by just blindly following the quest marker without paying attention or knowing what the fuck was even happening. I remember thinking "why is the game letting me do this?" I really think that Skyrim is such an obviously shitty game that even a child should be able to pick it apart with ease. Most of the criticisms are just common sense. If you're an adult and you think Skyrim is a masterpiece then you have no excuse, you're just a low-IQ retard.

>>730781169I think video games are better in every possible way (other than the death of AA games)
>>730781295I would not say every other way but we've had major QoL improvements and standards of game design that have been a boon, such as save points or live systems. Still, about anything buisness wise is where the downsides are.

>>730781407>standards of game designThis is the main thing restricting modern game design and killing creativity
>>730782530blessing and a curse. If you want something that feels or plays like X, there's likely a sequel or spiritual successor out there. I do hear you though, it doesn't all have to be confined to deriving from another system, but there are no shortages of elements to elect to take a creative spin on while using other systems that are proven well.
Skyrim has been normiecore since it came out. It sold a fuckton. Do you know remember when EVERY single YouTube comment section was just those stupid arrow in the knee jokes?
