There is several where you don't and then stuff like total war but all of them are inferior to aoe2
>>
>>730780384
Actual military strategy involves things like controlling areas with natural resources, manufacturing weapons, maintaining a food supply, and training new troops. It sounds like you're more interested in tactics than strategy. Consider looking into the Total War series, for starters.

I finally completed the Joan of Arc single player campaign in AoE2 over xmas. Only took 27 years.
The final mission was really hard, countless saving and loading.
Rejoice.

have you considered C&C or BFME2?
there's only one resource so the eco is completely brainless with the focus entirely on military control
>>
>why are platforming games so complicated? I just want to jump around but they have lives and powerups and shit

Most RTS aren't complicated on a fundamental level, getting good at them is being able to spin multiple plates at once. If you understand the basics of "build works to collect resources, spend resources to make factories to build units, send units out to destroy enemy, win" then you're already doing better than most people who play RTS games.

Clash of Clans lole
But seriously, I don't think it's gonna work. MMO world implies that it's active all the time, and if in MMORPGs your character just despawns, this will be a little awkward.
Assuming your base remains here if you log out, you will need a careful balance in economy and defense to ensure you don't always wake up to see everything destroyed.
In theory I guess it can work if done properly, but still it feels like inventing a spork.
>>
>>730787038
you can set all that shit to auto and just turn the campaign difficulty to easy
alternatively, total war has skirmish options

I played for like 100 hours in december and I still got lots of the campaigns unfinished. Some of them are brutal.
>>
>>730786462
True. I wonder if there are still any RTSs that invoke the same feeling of wonder and excitement as when I was a kid and first played Red Alert 2, Tiberian Sun, Warcraft 3, AOE2 and wanted to find all the secrets, all the factions/civs, all the cool maps and missions and so on.
They just don't make 'em like they used to.

If RTS is too hard for you, then Fallout series might be more up your speed, it's made for 1 INT people.
After you're done, play Elden Ring. Now you're a true gaymer.

Closest that I've had in a while is BAR that someone already suggested and Tempest Rising. Which is what I'd imagine a semi-modern CnC game would play like if EA weren't lame and gay and using the IP for mobile games. Maybe the Scouring? That's still very much an early access game and doesn't feel close to being done yet, but it does have a solid foundation.

2.5 hour long fight iirc
>>
>>730787302
The last RTS game I played that felt like it was made by competent old school devs was deserts of kharak. Then they fucked it with homeworld 3, that game flopping convinced me the genre is dead and it's never coming back.

Why were the campaigns so fucking hard early on? I remember having a demo for one of the expansions (?) as a kid where you played as Aztecs and the difficulty was just right. Then I got the main game and got completely raped by the Joan campaign
>>
>>730786462
would be cool if someone broke the formula for coop RTS against an overwhelming PvE experience

I'd play it at least coop RA3 was always one of my favorite things they introduced to the game, even if i feel it was too geared towards e-sport nonsense.
>>
>>730780384
Go play a moba, you imbecile. Though to be fair, you are less of a problem to the genre than autistic "muh meta" nigs
>>
>>730788712
If you followed the instructions given by the narration and quest log, it'd not be so hard. But if you were a kid and ESL I can understand why especially Joan of Arc was a tough campaign; it has a lot of keep-hero-units-alive and making you run around without a base or doing little time attack bits
>>
>>730787246
The only way I could envision it working is a helldivers style overworld map and doing RTS missions on it somehow influences it - territory changing hands between factions and shit like that
But I think the new Warhammer Total War is going to do something similar

You could look into Real Time Tactics games like Men of War (picrel is Faces of War). Otherwise there's games like Blitzkrieg. No base building, just positioning units and stuff.
