Honestly, the critical success and lasting cultural impact of THPS is fascinating, because the mroe you talk around and ask about it, it seems the fewer people there are that actually fully delved into the mechanical complexities and player expression that created a fantastically replayable experience. It's THPS4 that highlights it the most, since it's generally reviled by those that actively appreciated the games replayed them often, but loved by those that just shotgun the goals over multiple runs in a shallow manner, but the latter was enough to make the games remembered to this day. It's quite peculiar.
