Has anyone recommended you a game that looked unappealing until you finally gave in and tried it, discovering you really enjoyed it? I ask because I think it's more common than people realize to reject a game immediately and come around to it later, perhaps years after it's too late, and it wont receive updates or sequels.

Mount and Blade: Warband.
>>
Aoe2

Looked really intimidating at first but fell in love with the online multiplayer.
Favorite map is blackforest.
>>
>>730782617
nope, every recommendation I've gotten was bad and I still dislike the games.
>>
>>730782617
What in goyslop is that?
>>
>>730782617
Im usually the one that recommends
I been met with "not for me", "is overwhelming", "ugh", "that's for kids", "that's too disturbing"
Fucking cowards all of them
>>
>>730782617
Yeah, the entire survival horror genre, specifically the classic RE/SH/FF games. Now I quite like it.
>>
>>730782617
Hotline Miami due to the art style, now it's one of my favorite games
>>
>>730782617
Cruelty Squad. It's great once your eyes adapt to it.
>>
>>730782617
phasmophobia. it could do with some really substantial content and progression updates but no way I would’ve played it unless my friends wife suggested it

>Astlibra Revision
I disrespected the anime aesthetic, the poor artstyle, and what at first seemed like completely generic story. Plus if you skip the tutorial, there's like no combat for the first 10-15 minutes.

>What it turned out to be
The absolutely most addicting gameplay I've ever played, at least if you love seeing numbers go up, RPG Mechanics that are complex but easy to get into, and the type of RPG where equipment actually changes what your character is wearing AND gameplay.

The artstyle grows on you, and has it's ups and downs. The Story is actually "Weeb Kino", and I'm not even a weeb. It feels like a cult classic anime with every episode being a self-contained adventure that pushes the overarching story forward. This game is placed up there with Resident Evil 4 for me. It's a magnum opus almost fully made by one guy. Lightning in a Bottle that was condensed for literal decades, given a remaster, and then a quality translation.
>>
Streets of Rage 4, I was turned off by the art style compared to the OGs but once I played it I realized how retarded I was, it was my game of the year
>>
>>730782617
Don't eat shit with artificial green or blue food coloring.
That shit is evil. Google it yourself if you don't believe me
>>
>>730782617
I haven't gotten a single good game recommendation from 4chan in the last 10 years and I'm not exaggerating
>>
>>730784349
paper mario 64 and ttyd
ff tactics advance 1
fantasy life i
those are my recs
>>
>>730784398
I already played those games. I hate rpgs in general and people who play them. Of all the genres I have played they are the only ones I regret wasting time on and have zero fond memories of.
>>
>>730782617
I didn't think I would enjoy Slay the Princess. The only other visual novel I liked was Katawa Shoujo. But it surprised me, the art is beautiful, the voice acting is very good, and it doesn't feel like a visual novel because there's so many options at every point, it feels more like a turn-based game at times even though it's not.
>>
>>730784349
Tetris Attack (SNES)
Ridge Racer 2 (PSP)
Into the Breach
Mount and Blade Warband
>>
>>730784349
im really enjoying the dishwasher: vampire smile
granted i loved salt and sanctuary, but it's a real fun beat em up for it's time
>>
>>730784443
well that’s unfortunate
>>
>>730784539
Anon, I've been on this website for 20 years. Why do you think I haven't played this, why do you think shit like into the breach isn't ignorant garbage that was a product of "coffee break games" being the hot new thing? It's just surreal dude.
>>
>>730782617
No. I don't take requests

what are your thoughts on games like vampire survivor
>>
>>730784349
bat to the heavens
a solitaire mystery
i wanna lockpick
tis-100
hyper demon
>>
>>730784913
They aren't really games, they're just kind of following that trend of following a progression path. It's like when you go from a wooden pickaxe to a diamond one in minecraft, but with all the gameplay in between optimized out. I think that's becoming a popular trend nowadays. It's not really related to arcade games.
>>
>>730785006
that’s an odd thing to say when you like shmups imo
>>
Doll's Nest and Reverse Collapse Codename Bakery.
Initial thoughts were both things looked like shitty half baked games that were being recommended because anime artstyle.
Playing the demo of both I ended up really liking them.
>>
>>730785086
When I'm playing a shmup I'm not passively collecting X resources to unwrap an arbitrary present that'll make it so I can collect X+10 resources to unwrap the next present. That's how all slop is designed now.

that's exactly how i felt playing the dolls nest demo

It's very poorly balanced especially on hard mode(If you're ever struggling with a boss like the flying drone heli just get an assault rifle) but it scratches an itch I never knew I had, turns out I DID want Armored Core souls.

i thought homm2 looked goofy with its art style and never tried the games until i saw homm3 for $20
in some ways this also colors your perception of quality, as when a game first releases it could have serious bugs or balance issues that get worked out in patches, and then you only play the cleaned up version without any of the frustration of day 1 players and wonder why people skipped on this gem

As in it makes ice in the shape of a nugget? Why not just use your freezer?

after seeing just her hand, you're surprised she wants her ice in mcnugget shape?

No, im not often recommended games. And when I am, I almost never try a game I think is bad, and it ends up good. All the games I try that end up bad, I had doubts about, but pushed past them, for one reason or another. And all the games I try that end uo good, I expected them to actually be good.

The most disappointing thing I run into...are disappointments. Games that I forget after a week, because theyre not horrible, but they also have no redeeming qualities as far as im concerned. Those games sour my taste on videogames more than anything, theyre the type of games that will make me not play videogames for a week or two, because I have lost faith in my judgement.

It's a flavored boxed wine mixed with liquor shooters and a buzzball(carbonated alcohol drink), with cereal and candy in it. It's exactly as disgusting as it sounds

Gud game. I wonder if it's been updated since last I played it like two years ago.

Not recommended, but I had 2 games that I didn't expect to enjoy and then did:
>2013ish
>be hardcore gamer
>See Euro Truck sim 2
>pirate it as a meme
>"Truck sim, how stupid, this will be so fucking dumb"
>2 hours later
>Driving down the autobahn at night, rain on the windshield, webradio playing tunes, full on VIBING
Did not expect it, now I have all the DLC, lmao.
Other game:
>Browe /v/ a lot
>everyone talks about Borderlands 2 being a "le epic meme" shitshow, full of reddit reference humor every 2 seconds
>avoid it like the plague for that reason
>YEARS later it's on sale for like 5 bucks
>decide fuck it, I played BL1 might as well see how bad it is
>the humor is not nearly as bad as everyone said
>the most enjoyable shooter with the most fun gunplay I had in years
I stopped listening to /v/ after that.
>>
>>730787424
I think this is why AAA died, alot of people have shitty McDonald's taste in games but don't want to admit it, they want to pretend to be connoisseur's. They then listen to people on 4chan and skip ubislop, borderlands and Sony movie game shit even though they would love it if they tried it.
>>
>>730782617
fuck you karl
>>
>>730782617
I thought DRG was MP only and you're forced to play with 4 people. I really like that people can drop in randomly mid mission

>>
>>730788416
I think you overestimate how many people listen to 4chan uncs.

I'm not the onifag but these are all cool, where were you during the steam sales
>new hempuli game
damn, I didn't know
>>
>>730790385
i was in the steam sale threads but they are so fast and almost nobody wants to play puzzle games on /v/ they all just want to play rpgs
but yeah i highly recommend the solitaire game it has a fantastic soundtrack too

Yes this has happened to me a few times. But all of those times were multiplayer games that I played with my actual friends which is always a good time.
