A mix of using the REengine for open world maps its clearly not designed for, and the team essentially being told to just put band-aids on the problem as they keep up with the title updates. Since Gog was the final one for now, they're either going to get back to "optimizing" the game....or just do what they did to Dragons Dogma 2 and ignore it. Unlikely, but Wilds hasn't had the sales they were hoping for after the initial launch window.
