Freya's son is begging to be allowed to feel things, to actually live and to be free to die, she's steadfastly denying him any of that because she's too selfish to accept ever having to see him hurt. That she's willing to be killed for it is kinda commendable at least but at the end of the day she cursed her own son to live a life he can't stand to avoid the risk of having to see him die. I can't see Kratos understanding that when he has himself had to tear his child away from himself because even if it hurt him to do it was what was best for her.
