There is no way to feel invested in characters/stories if you don't have good camerawork, closing up on their faces, proper pacing in the cutscenes and so on. This is something Kojima does right and the rest of the industry should be taking notes, meanwhile Skyrim does it awfully
>>
E33 had better cutscene direction than DS2 despite the WAY lower budget.
Especially with how it timed it with the music.
>>
>>730791258
I didn't play DS2 so I can't defend it specifically but MGS3/MGS4/MGS5 have way better direction than E33
>>
>>730791215
only normalfags care about that
>>
>>730791215
play the works of Shinji Mikami, Sam Lake, Fumito Ueda, Neil Druckmann, and Expedition 33.
>>
Cutscenes are something you skip and then move on to the gameplay.
>>
play xenoblade
>>
>>730791495
Brah it's literally cinematography?
Its like saying only normalfags care about line delivery
>>
i'm here to play videogames. go "marathon" a movie faggot
>>
>>730791215
Check out 1000xRESIST. It has top kino camerawork.

>>730791215
>Muh cutscenes
Go suck Drunkman's dick, faggot, you clearly don't care about video games.

Retard-kun...

It's not just cutscenes. Gameplay is affected by this as well.
The overwhelming adoption of first person and third person over the shoulder camera have completely displaced the framing of shots in general.
You can't have a fixed view of a camera panning over a landscape shot as your character moves forward towards a new area for example. The camera HAS to be hugging the character's ass the entire time as the jackoff playing him is busy focusing the camera on the floor.

Don't know why I'm replying seriously but skyrim isn't meant to be cinematic, you're just watching everything happen from the perspective of your character in real time. I don't think gamers would be very happy if something like half life had actual cutscenes instead of letting you walk around and play with physics objects while Alyx yaps at you.
>>
>>730792687
It's not about being cinematic. It's about trying to tell a story. Skyrim is story heavy, it should have had better cinematics. Half life is 99% gameplay.
>>
>>730792584
My bad, didn't know that cutscenes were watched outside the game.
>>
>>730791215
I feel that, on average, the moment to moment gameplay in Skyrim is more cinematic than the moment to moment gameplay in Death Stranding or Metal Gear Solid V,
but that the latter two games have Skyrim beat when it comes to 1) absolute peaks and 2) cinematics (seeing as how Skyrim has none. Or maybe at least one? Scenes with player-operable cameras are not cinematics).
Skyrim shoves things like generic and bespoke musical stings, clever use of a limited number (at any given time) of shadow-casting lights, and framed subjects at the player quite frequently.

Games in general seems to have lost the "eye" for making games look visually interesting. And yes Kojima for all his faults is one of the few who understands how important this is, it's why his trailers are so amazing.

Skyrim is an open world game where you can do whatever you want wherever you want as whoever you want at any time. That is not a great vehicle for storytelling at all. When you as the creator have very little control over the pacing of the game due to the nature of the average player in a dynamic open world game, shoving in cutscenes without extreme care is just a bad idea. If you play nu rockstar games there is a reason why they have to railroad you so hard in story missions. I don't know if you've actually beat the game but the master quest is really not that long or involved, it IS mostly gameplay with some dialogue scenes.

>it's why his trailers are so amazing
If only he could figure out how to make the games amazing too
>>
>>730793385
He's made some amazing games, and even his flawed ones are at the very least interesting

Kojima didn't make anything that good since MGS4
>>
>>730791215
C-list writers plus the faggot brand of tech-types will always lead to cinematic disaster.
>>
>>730791215

You get what you pay for.

These developers off shore and outsource to fucking unskilled jeets instead of passionate, skilled, knowledgeable Whites.
>>
>>730794614
But in the end, do you? Look at the difference between E33 which is probably the best recent "cinematic" game, and AC Shadows, which was way more costly to make and has awful cinematics.
It's probably cheaper to hire 30 whites than 1000 pajeets, and the final result is better.

>>730793252
Same can be said for cinema in general. When you compare Marvel slop to the blockbusters we had in the 90's, it's night and day.
>>
>>730791215
they also have garbage stories and disgustingly bad writing and dialogue. there are incredibly few competent people involved in creating games.
>>
>>730795190
>difference between E33 and AC:Shadows
Neither was made by white people, Ubisoft outsourced to jeets and E33 outsourced to gooks
>>
>>730791215
You're absolutely right. I wish I had saved the image of Nagoshi talking about knowing the bare minimum about movie directing and Yokoyama being totally stumped how he knows how to make cutscenes look good.
>>
>>730795640
>E33 outsourced to gooks
gooks only did combat animations

Fromsoft has kino cinemtography for their games. Armored core 6 especially is filled with shots that look cool.
Theres cutscenes in sekiro that deliberately change the position of the sun and switch out character models for different sized identical models simply because it looks better in cutscenes.
Miyazaki is very good at storyboarding in his games bug armored core 6 and some nightreign scenes show that others at the studio can pull it off too.
