Everything is viable, but commit early. Netrunning has a slow start because you don't have great daemons or cyberware early on, which forces you into a stealthier approach.

The Cool skill tree is kinda useless imo, you can essentially still use silent pistols effectively for stealth by using the right iconic pistols and cyberware. IMO the great build is also Body+Tech Body for health, health regen and euphoria perks and tech for cyberware bonuses and armor and healing item bonuses. As this build is great early game with that survivability then you can expand it to use specific type of weapons or even netrunner.

I did and I feel like I crippled a lot of the gameplay by giving up my quickhacking ability for Sandivistans early into the game. I started playing this game 2 days ago and first the attribute and perk system seemed overwhelming until I realized most were meaningless stat boosters and it is an rpg so you can just cheese every combat encounter, so I just stopped caring a about builds and just started enjoying the side quests and the world

Most of the other Attributes bias you towards using certain weapons and playstyles, but every build wants appropriate Cyberware to support its gimmick, which Tech Ability improves. Tech also improves grenades and healing, which are very strong early game before you have a chance to unlock your attributes more signature perks.

The two "big builds" that synergize well are stealth/pistol/netrunner and melee/smg/sandevistan. A lot of other things are perfectly viable but harder for a beginner to make work. Focus on one or the other until you know what you're doing.

Cold Blood in my opinion for pistols and SMGs.Just open the Skills menu and hover over every little ability to see which ones you aim for.If you want to max out your skills, do a lot of side missions. There is a katana that has 50% crit rate when using a sandy, with that you can really easily reach 100% crit rate and kill people instantly which is good fun and was my main weapon. I invested into 20 cool in my last build so I could experiment with pistols after hitting level 50 but I didn't really care for them too much. I'm going to do the same build again soon but probably try SMGs and use some specific weapons I ignored last time I played (butchers cleaver). Auto-heal augments are important if you're playing on a high difficulty early on, and I tried to make sure any of the additional modifiers on my cyberware added melee damage

Note that most of the Rank 20 Perks give benefits that are so strong, they punish you for not using them, so I would only max a stat if you fall in love with a particular playstyle. For example, iirc theres a Body 20 Shotgun skill that flat-out DOUBLES the damage of your next Shotgun blast, I think after Crits and other modifiers, after you land a Quickmelee, and vice-versa Shotgun Blast doubles Quickmelee damage. This is an absurd increase to your DPS, but it makes every other weapon feel like a wet noodle (doubly so because those points you spent to max Body couldve been used to round out another stat and make a more variable arsenal more powerful.)

I would advise against getting a Sadevistan implant in your first build, cause getting it means you can no longer do netrunning which is a really cool, immersive way to play the game. Sandevistan is super broken even after the nerfs to it, and if you play it first time you will have a hard time adjusting to any other build because you'll be used to speed hacking the game, basically. Once you get the unique sandivestan implant you become an untouchable demigod. .

Best to explore Night City yourself the first time you play. As others said, it's best to commit hard to a specific build, Usually by maxing one attribute first and sticking to a particular style of weapon. The game actually gives you far more attribute and skill points than you need to max a single specialization, so you will get to flesh yourself out eventually, but if you try to be a jack of all trades early on you will suffer for it, because you won't be able to keep up with enemy scaling.

Make sure either Tech or Body is high. If you're playing a hacker, it is worth investing into Body.
