Indie devs aren't equipped to handle overnight success. People want new content for the FOTM game NOW but their whole pipeline would require months if not years of work and by that point people have already moved on, walking away is often the right move

Vampire Survivors "2nd map is really the first map you should complete" only worked because it was a teaching moment that you aren't expected to just go down the list of tasks and the game also doesn't give the first map like 20 challenges to do either, it gave you little choice BUT to move on.

It's also been months since I played unmodded Balatro, so there's probably tons I forgot, but a lot of jokers I thought I'd hate like Madness and the knife turned out to be pretty powerful in the runs where I got gold stickers on them.
