I'm kind of sick of "open world" games that function as soulless theme parks.
The whole point of the world being open as opposed to a tightly designed series of hand-made areas is the promise of exploration and wonder, but how often do you get that in any modern "open world" games? Take Cyberpunk 2077. 99% of doors are locked and if you find one that opens, it's guaranteed related to a mission.

I think GTA6 will be the worst offender if it ever comes out, looking at the way the genre is going.

open world is not a genre.

It's lost it's novelty is the problem. In the Ps2/Ps3 generations there was still a lot of experimentation when it came to open worlds, but now it's all kind of homoegenized giant collectathon maps that don't really cater to the character's movement abillities and gameplay mechanics. It's more like a checkbox now the publisher's push to justify shit like "SEE OUR GAME IS 100 HOURS LONG!" RPG and look mechanics have the same issue but that's a different beast
