Too little too late.

usb-c is everywhere and really good what are you talking about?
>>
>>730798628
it was needed 20 years ago.
>>
most usbc are power cables with usb2 speed of 400mbits
>>
EU made these mandatory otherwise Nintendo would still be using the proprietary 3DS plug.
>>
i hate this cable so much it's unreal. at least make some kind of color coding mandatory so you can tell at a glance what speeds and protocols each cable supports.
>>
>>730799704
yeah, they fixed how devices connect but introduced a lot of headaches when it comes to the actual cable itself, at the very least they should print on the cables what the fuck it supports like with ethernet / hdmi ones.
>>
>>730798628
Wrong. Oval connectors fitting most cables are everywhere, but the standards carried by said cables / devices are a complete shitshow and everyone involved should be killed.
Everything having a dedicated connection was better and will continue to be better until this new "Standard" is unfucked.
>>
>>730799678
The Switch came out in 2017, anon. The EU regulation wasn't mandated until 2024
>>
>>730800471
Stop ruining a good ragebait thread with facts. Asswipe.
>>
>>730800471
They made EU buy the 3DS charger separately instead of bundling it or implementing USBC.
>>
>>730798628
USB-C doesn't have a set standard for data pass through, voltage, etc. You have no idea if the cable you are about to plug into your system is fast charging, provides any sort of data (Mandatory if you want a controller to work on PC for example), or has other features in it without having the container it came in that tells you. The only way you can know if you don't have fast charging is if USB-A is on one end of the cable. If you go to a place like Five Below to pick up some cables most of them are going to be a mix of just charging cables and charging + data cables.
>>
>>730800471
but. but. iPhones!! We totally needed a new law because iPhones.
Never mind I already use wireless charging and wireless headphones and never actually plug anything into my phone.
>>
>>730800937
>Never mind I already use wireless charging and wireless headphones and never actually plug anything into my phone.
You're likely a minority. I have yet to have touched wireless charging and have had an iPhone for like six years now. Even the technologically literate around me use cables.
>>
Gets loose too easily in my opinion. It hasn't negatively affected me yet, but the wigglyness makes me nervous.

>>
>>730800937
Wireless charging sucks ass and is always slow as shit
>>
>>730801912
Also creates excessive heat killing the battery
Doesn't really matter if you replace the phone every year though
>>
>>730800754
It does, everything is standardized, even out-of-standard operation is (alt modes).
It's just most of that stuff is optional.
This is very common, bluetooth and wifi is the same. The effect is just less noticeable.
>>
>>730802258
>It's just most of that stuff is optional.
Which is the exact problem. That means the standard USB-C cable is only for slow charging and you have to roll the dice if it does anything else.
>>
>USB-C bad because I'm a poorfag that buys shitty cables
>USB-C bad because I'm a retard that abuses my stuff
>USB-C bad because I'm so dopamine fried that I have to use my devices while charging them
>>
>>730802392
Moose you dumb fuck.
Do you really want mandatory 240W charging and 80Gbps data on every single cable and device?
>>
>>730802646
No, but I also think there needs to be some sort of middleground that mandates every cable have data pass through rather than flip a coin if it does. I've bought two cables now that have no data at all and they're functionally useless to me.
>>
>>730802825
>I've bought two cables now that have no data at all and they're functionally useless to me.
Well then that's on you. Just buy the right fucking cable next time.
If you want ALL your cables have ALL the features, you can have that.
Have fun paying 30 bucks for every cable that can have a maximum length of 1 meter.
>>
You know even now I still can't believe nintendo actually used USB-C instead of some proprietary bullshit again.

>>

And from console gaming they were the first one to fully implement it no less.
>>
>>730803067
>Just buy the right fucking cable next time.
The cables randomly don't mention what they do at times, or they have things like data worded randomly like "Sync files". I don't see why a cable shouldn't have both data and charging functionality at bare minimum. Fast charging and the big boy data pass through I get having them as specialist cables, but the default cable should be both a charging and data cable. That's what I mean by "Standard".
>>
>>730803219
Though really only because it released earlier than expected.
It seems Japan had a pretty big push for USB-C? Sony put it even on their midrange phones as early as 2016.
>>
>>730803306
Where do you buy your cables from lmao
>I don't see why a cable shouldn't have both data and charging functionality at bare minimum
Cost basically.
Actually I'm not even sure no-data cables are even standard compliant. Lots of cheap non standard stuff out there.
>>
>>730803078
nintendo uses only the connector. the protocol uses some of their proprietary drm fuckery so that non-licensed peripherals wont work.
>>
>>730798415
Hate this shit
>>
>>730803524
My $4 dongle works. It uses an off the shelf usb-c hub chip, no special fuckery
>>
>>730803426
>Where do you buy your cables from lmao
Five Below and Walmart most of the time. I once bought like three from Five Below (Two different brands too) that didn't have data at all and had to return two of them when I found that out and started looking at the packaging more. There's still tons of them in those stores that have no data at all despite being USB-A to C.

One of the charging cables I have that has no data is a three-pronged one (USB-A, C, and Micro) I got from a Tuesday Morning when I saw it was on clearance. The box it came in said nothing about what it could do outside of the fact it could support all three of these standards. Another one that has no data is a USB-C to C from Five Below, but I bought that knowing it had no data since I just needed it for my PS5 to charge my controller.
>>
I fucking hate the asbolute state of physical technology right now.
Like really really hate it.

>It's okay for shitty products to be sold because I am superior

You will never comprehend how retarded you sound. It's beyond your understanding.
>>
>>730798415
Thinking about it, I don't have a single USB-C cable that didn't come with its dedicated device and I exclusively use them for each one of them. I think at most I have used my phone charging cable to charge my Switch but that's it.

What I refuse to buy is headphones/earbuds with USB-C connection, or devices that don't have 3.5mm ports, it's either those or they can fuck off, reason why I also avoid Apple shit like the plague.

I did years ago
All my music fit on the local storage, I shuttle all data off to my home server and periodically delete local data so it's never full.
The death of the headphone jack spawned an entire market of high quality tiny dongle dacamp, I can now spend $10 knowing I have a reference quality source attached to my headphones at all times. Back in the days I would've had to strap a $150 brick to the back of my phone.

Most people didn't take advantage of it, people keep demanding smaller smartphones, and in most cases it's been replaced by dual sims instead.

Its because you need to rotate the USB connector enough times to out it in phase with our reality. If you rotated it left and then right it still wouldn't work. You need to rotate it twice in the same direction

t. science man
>>
>>730800754
>USB-C doesn't have a set standard for data pass through, voltage, etc
Yes it does. Standard power is 5V 2A, so 15W, and for data it always has a USB2 link. All and any cable supports that, even chinkshit. Everything else is optional, and of course requires you getting a cable made by a real company.
>>
>>730802632
>>USB-C bad because I'm so dopamine fried that I have to use my devices while charging them
I use Teams on my phone because my work PC doesn't have a mic or headset. Teams drains the fuck out of my phone battery, which is an old-ass S9.
>>
>>730804995
>Like how the fuck did people let this slide?
Phones now come with like 512gb or more that makes external storage unnecessary.
>>
>>730805852
>Phones now come with like 512gb or more
The only reason they need to be 512gb though is because they no longer take the sd cards.
And we need to pay for the storage memory with every new phone.
>>
>>730800937
Can a wireless charger fastcharge? No? Then I don't care. Until Qi tech reaches those speeds, I'm stickin to cable.
>>
>>730802632
That last one is a fair point, especially since a lot of phones don't have a fucking 3.5 anymore. Other than that, USB-C is fine
>>
>>730805852
>phone with 256gb + 256gb sd card

>>
>>730807246
Guess which is faster at reading and writing speed, anon.
>b-but microsd express
Those are prohibitively expensive and just make it more appealing to have all the storage already in the phone.
>>
>>730804512
Removeable storage and headphone jacks are the hills I'm dying on. After having to recover data off the internal storage of a dead samshit phone I'm never trusting my data on a phone's internal storage ever again.
