Iron is good to have for good amount of crafting and there are enemies in the snowy section that drop a lot of coal and you'll need plenty of coal to make metal bars. You'd also want to have the steel axe by the summer to chop away a huge log blocking the secret woods.If you get lucky and find a prismatic shard, don't be too hasty to donate it to museum. There is a better place later to trade one shard for a nice weapon.
