I know I'm being a greedy piece of shit but the "what if's" are killing me, especially since RAM has become even more useful for data loading, preprocessing, and offloading portions of a model. Still though, even outside of using this thing for running shit at home, I'll probably be fine to not upgrade for the next 12 years

Corporation owners (billionaires) don't actually care about that. It's always easy for them to weasel out of any blame when that happens. Especially when the government is backing them, taxpayer money will cover any damages. They will put gladly put all their eggs in one basket as long as they get to pocket more money. AI is the perfect catalyst for this, and normalcattle don't care about the negative implications it will have on them because they aren't capable of thinking beyond the immediate feedback response. They are cattle.

NTA, but there´s that info about 70% or so steam users using a pc "weaker" than a ps5, along with those articles claiming that the vast majority of games played of steam are 5-10 years old.
This shit will go like what happened with youtube adds a year ago, they started ramping up trying to fuck people who used addblock, that normies got affected too, and the not-so-normie friends of those made them discover that you could play videos on YT without adds, making the amount of people who used addblock explode

Actually, you don't want to futureproof with the latest hardware for video games. People who thought that got rugpulled with the 4090. You need better equipment for something as Simone as everyday browsing nowadays. For instance, to run Chrome or Firefox today, you need at least 8GB ram available. It wasn't the case 4 years ago and certainly not 15 years ago. Modern devs create software with the assumption that the end user will own stronger and stronger hardware. The increased computing power cost falls upon the consumer to pay and allow for devs being lazy. You've already seen this in modern games that are now reliant on framegen and upscaling for minimum performance. The same thing has been taking place for all kind of supposedly user-friendly software for the last 15 years.

Corporate greed, misuse of the ellectron and javascript languages added to vibe coder shitters are to blame. To run the official Discord client well, you need a 9800X 3D and 32GB DDR5 ram at minimum. Otherwise you encounter small delays, stutters and whatnot. It's not unusable, but clearly it wasn't designed with the average consumer laptop in mind.

PC pirate cucks of course got too cocky not realizing the only reason their pcs were so fluid was because consoles kept the chips low with low specs.
