I hear great things about Growlanser 4, I have the PSP game downloaded in multiple devices for like 15 years at this point (first my hacked PSP, then on a PC emulator, then a different PC that I built from scratch, then a hacked PSVita). It's just that I never found the timing to play it, it's always "maybe like after these 5 to 10 games from now" but it keeps sliding down my priority list.
Granted I'm an impulsive tard that can't keep my plans 100% intact and always wants to jump at the fresh new idea, but I really should rip the bandaid and play it.

Eh, you do have BPs but the idea is completely different, SSG and EB are very much their own thing.
Not to say Minstrel Song is bad or anything but outside of having a vaguely similar concept for resource economy it plays pretty differently, SSG and EB are forks of the BP system Kawazu and Koizumi initially designed for Minstrel Song but tuned for a more extreme and abstract format, Minstrel Song has more complexity in other sides of the game like the in-depth crafting, spell fusion and so on but the tug of war aspect that the latest mainlines have just isn't there if that's what you're interested in.

Finishing DQ3 remake, just need to do the 1000 battles achivement and it's over.

Overall was ok. The story being so light plus your party being generics without dialogue made it pretty hard to get invested at first, but eventually it clicked.

DQ3 hits a similar sweet-spot to games like Etrian Odyssey, your team might be full of generics but you start to get attached to them somehow.
I really love when the map starts to open, that sense of exploration feels good.

Also, the fact that the world map resembles our real world map kinda makes navigation easier in a meta sense, you don't even need a mini-map in the NES version because of that.

it went on sale 50% off a couple weeks ago, just wait until it's on sale and you can get it for like 30-35, I played it on my iphone back in the day and remember liking it but hated/hate mobile games so I stopped after like 2 hours so can't say whether it's worth it or not idk it looks pretty cool and I like the idea of saving monsters to fight all at once but the character design kind of sucked and the story didn't immediately grip me
>>
>>730816771
You get every character.
The only thing can kind of screw you over a bit is one that turns into another, and can eventually turn back. There is no real indication this is about to happen. It happened to me and I dealt with it.
>>
>>730817317
Any JRPG can be hard if you are willing to do a low level challenge run
>>
>>730816771
By the way, shields act as if the character has the additional element of the shield. This is eventually really important but would have been useful to understand from the beginning.

FF6 is known to be easy even by Final Fantasy standards. It's less babymode than Chrono Trigger, and FF7 and onward made some amount of those babymode features standard. Eg in FF7 you can't voluntarily make a party with fewer than 3 people, in FF6 you can make a party of whoever you want.

But it's still very easy. The game gives you easy overpowered abilities early-game like Tools and Blitz. The magic system gives everyone good options for offense and healing. And later in the game there's lots of absurdly powerful equipment that's very easy to get. The final boss is a pushover whose only real threat comes a bullshit counter-attack that's only enabled when the boss is low health. Most players won't ever see it.

(And this is all without any serious exploitation of broken mechanics or esper growth autism)

>I don't want to go out of my way to play a game in a weird way
In reality this isn't a binary question. The other anon posited as "challenge run" but what about a moderate degree of restraint?

What if "playing the game in the weird way" is what makes it easy?

Final Fantasy Tactics is a good example here. Because enemies scale with your level in random encounters, but not in story encounters, you can easily grind levels and jobs. Also, because you get XP with each action taken in battle, you can arrange hyper-optimized grinding sessions where you turn everyone into frogs and just have them hit each other over and over to gain xp and jp very quickly. So it's very easy to vastly out-level the story content. But it's also a weird way to play, and if you just play normally and maybe just do a random encounter or two here or there if you really want to unlock an ability or raise money for a weapon, the difficulty is perfectly reasonable.

I just played FF1 and enjoyed it. But it's very combat-heavy and can become a slog at times. But it's also worth noting how enjoyable the game can be anyway. But I do think saying that it's "interesting as a historical relic" is more meaningful than its given credit for.

Sometimes, it takes going back to the original games to really understand the purpose of some tropes and mechanics. If you want to understand ATB, for example, you could do worse than playing FF4. Of course you think you know ATB but when FF4 was new, so was ATB. The devs were really inspired by the new combat system so the game was built around it.

For FF1, the overworld itself is one of the most notable features. It was a place you were meant to explore, not just an aesthetic portion of a hallway simulator leading from cutscene to cutscene, with combat in-between. It was an obstacle itself-- there are points in the game where you have to land your airship quite far from the destination you want to explore, and have to trek overland to reach it, fighting lots of monsters along the way. This use of the overworld as a way to simulate travel and journeying is something I think has been lost over time, at least somewhat.

I'm not sure what I'll move on to next. I still haven't even attempted the superboss but I'm getting a bit tired of 0. Part of me wants to go back to Raidou now, but what will most likely happen is that I'll start playing my MMO again.

On the final boss of Romancing SaGa 2 remake. I’ve been doing decent damage to it, but I usually get wiped when it’s HP is less than half so I think I have to take the time to make my party as optimal as possible which is gonna take a shit ton of grinding. It doesn’t help I didn’t get any of the formations people say are good cause’ I didn’t realize how broken they can be until I got to the final emperor. Overall it’s been fun though.

FF1 is also one of the few games in the series with meaningful resource management. Later entries often give the player massive reserves of healing magic, mountains of consumables, and save points all over the place (which might heal everyone for free.) That makes it pretty much impossible for the player's party to suffer any real attrition, which in turn makes random encounters largely pointless. Meanwhile, if you want to get through FF1 without grinding, it becomes important to recognize that some enemy groups just aren't worth fighting because engaging them will wear the party down too much.

Damn, second JRPG ever? Really depends on what you're looking for outside of the hebes and hags. The Trails remake is definitely the best way to get into the series, but it's notoriously a slow burn, and I'm not sure I would recommend it if you're just getting into the genre. Persona 3 Reloaded or Persona 5 Royal are great intros to the Persona and Shin Megami Tensei universe. Tales of Vesperia or Berseria are two great games with action combat instead of turn-based. If you want to stick to older PS2 era games, Shadow Hearts and Shadow Hearts: Covenant are two of the GOATs. All above mentioned games have hot babes ranging from loli to hag and are what I'd consider good entry points to JRPGs in general. Also glad you're enjoying X, it's a fantastic game
