>>730817671Arch Linux is an EU distro. Unless you mean official government made distro, which would be completely creepy and unwelcome.

>>730818176>bring out the digital Euro. Hopefully we won't have VISA/MASTERCARD bannig videogames anymore. The irony is that a lot of EU countries already have such alternatives. >>730815038So is GOG finally realising they're in no position to pick customers?
>>730817389I don't know why windows 11 is hitting so hard when it's almost the same as 10 desu. The fall from 7 to 10 was worse, that's where all the ads in the OS and telemetry and windows store shit started. I guess the main thing 11 has is that they actually told their customers to fuck off by not supporting hardware and telling them >Oh nooo your PC won't work any more you'll have to trade it inwhich is ballsy even for MS desu.>>730821920Honestly it's for the better, no one wants to have to use 10 different launchers, nor to be trapped entirely in Steam in case something bad happens or you just want to pirate shit.Making one good open launcher that has support for all vendors is the only way for anyone else to begin to approach Steam at all.
>>730821476That's good, but I think it should be extended to the entire EU so Europeans can stop being beholden to Microsoft's and US intelligence agency's whims. It'd be better if the European Commission could take charge of it so effort isn't being duplicated by every country doing their own thing in their own corner.
>>730817671A lot of European countries are switching to Linux in some department tho.
>>730815038Because Linux is not native with a range of professional tools which people have to use for work.
Hopefully, it was bizarre to me that GoG's launcher of all things was the only one that gave me trouble on Linux. Even the shittiest ones like Origin and Battlenet worked fine in Proton. And it's important that a DRM platform like Steam isn't the only choice if Linux ever does takeover.
>>730822296>which is ballsy even for MS desu. What did you really expect them to do anyways?Without forced secure boot and TPM 2 they can't embed kernel level anti piracy shit for their windows store.Plus, they also please hardware vendors by forcing people to purchase a new machine even though the old one still works alright, but since they only supported up to 3 year old computers, there was barely anyone who would have one compatible.
>>730822402I think so too. It's pretty weird but the gendarmerie is a few parsecs away from everybody else in the french state when it comes to technology. Way better than the regular police or the standard armies or education.

>>730815038Gog should drop the whole multi-launcher thing and add linux support instead. Playnite does it better anyway.
>>730815038AI slop and trump antagonising Europe are the perfect combination to finally kill windows. Ridding the consumer space of Microsoft was unthinkable a few years ago but now it seems inevitable.

>>730824829heroic just works and would likely be better than anything they released. I actually hope they don't make their own client because it will probably end up making them brick heroic.
>>730824169He's right though. People are still recommending arch-based distros just to get the latest drivers, there are still rough edges with Wayland, and windows 10 still works. That's not the kind of situation where you have to rush to do something urgently. Hardware/software support for 10 will gradually degrade but that hasn't gotten too bad yet.I say this despite the fact that I'm screwing around with cachy despite my better judgement. I mean so far it works quite well but who knows how it'll go
>>730824698>thinking about keeping up with current specsThat's your issue. Abandon modernity, it's not worth it.
>>730815038This is great news. But what I really want is an alternative to Windows, something which Linux is not meant to be.Fundamentally, this is an OS problem that has yet to see a solution.

>>730825176It is an alternative retardYou want a 1:1 replacement because you're scared of learning
>>730817310that's C-suite gesturing. they learn to make it a habit when presenting because it convinces people you're thinking as you speak which indicates genuine attention. It's manipulation
>>730823340GOG games don't need a launcher, but if you really want one on Linux, Heroic Game Launcher supports downloading and launching GOG games.
>>730825176It's called reactos, you will hear from it in 2027.
A "new owner" sounds bad, but if they're genuine about linux and being wary of windows, I hope they have the right trajectory and won't just drive the company to the groundGOG is one of the best things a consumer would want if they get into gaming. Steam is a temporary solution, but if you want to keep your games and even hand them down to your kids, you'd always want offline installers for everything. When you die, your Steam account is going to be frozen and nobody else can enjoy those games that you bought over the years, and that's just fucking highway robbery.Imagine if inheritance wasn't a thing, and people would just burn the belongings of deceased people. What a fucking waste.
>>730824987Arch distros are recommended because they're the closest to valve and because their sole weakness is gone with lumine and btrfs snapshotsThey're objectively the best

>>730823994yet its still better than linux
>>730825176It's not an OS problem, it's a developer problem. They go out of their way to prevent their software from being used on Linux. There is no technical reason, just inane excuses. This finally changed with games because Valve was able to pump up Proton, which bypasses the developers. And now only the very largest holdouts remain. The same could happen with other software, even Microsoft and Adobe might eventually cave if they can keep the subscriptions flowing in.

I used to love Windows, but it's genuinely getting worse with every update now. What used to be basic functionality is lost. Even the fucking image viewer is laggy. Searching for a file with the folder browser is hit or miss. Typing a program's name in the start menu only works sometimes. The OS will straight up just block you from installing things it doesn't like, even from unzipping things sometimes. The settings menu is a fucking decoy to keep you out of the real settings. The computer just does what it wants, Microsoft acts like you're just borrowing from them and you don't actually have permission to control your own goddamn computer. It's insane.

>>730829251Far from it, it only seems like it because they're that fucking stupid now.
>>730824694One of the co-founders bought the company so they're going from a subsidiary of a publicly traded company to standalone and privately owned by just one guy.So things could end up working really well, or he could absolutely fuck shit up. We'll see.
>>730829251Nah, they just don't care, because they assume that people will still use them no matter what they do. This assumption is correct which is why they've gotten bolder over time. It actually makes sense for them to get lazy with their OS in exchange for advancing in other markets. The problem is that they are incompetent and everything they make is bad, so they never gain ground anywhere. They are too used to working with heavy lock in that forces everyone to use them. Shit like teams and the win11 file explorer is actually their best effort. They can't compete in new markets. This can go on for a fucking long time.
>>730826282Well if it took ten years to go from 1% to 2% and then went from 2% to 3% in 2025, that means it'll cross 25% in about 18 days, if my napkin math is correct

>>730822296>The fall from 7 to 10 was worse, that's where all the ads in the OS and telemetry and windows store shit startedJust like other anon pointed out it doesn't do anything better than w10 while at the same time got rid of features I thought that should be given. We reached the point where you need to install UI mods cause you cannot even move the taskbar anymore. The icing on top is now all the useless AI and shit like the recommended section in the start menu that causes CPU spikes as it's react native.
>>730829251lol no, they want to take control of your computer away from you. And they're succeeding because you enable them.
>>730830309Fun fact, by default every single keystroke in the search bar of the start menu sends a separate call to Bing to search for whatever you're typing on the web instead of just searching a local index of files and/applications Web search in the start menu can be turned off (for now, at least) but this should be indicative of how little Microsoft cares about their users
>>730825954The "new owner" is one of the original founders of CDPR and GOG, and he bought it so it wouldn't get bought out by some soulless corporation and murdered.

>>730829940grim.
>>730830698There are plenty of tweaks you have to do in the settings, registry or group policies before w11 becomes somewhat useable.
