What are some completely useless vidya gimmicks that have seemingly appeared in more games than you would expect?>messing with the system clock changes something in the gameHow is this an interesting gimmick? You just go into the system settings and set the clock to a different time. Not talking about day and night cycles. What other gimmicks have never actually improved the experience?

>>730818365Changing the system clock is not a "gimmick" it's just how games work. Unless it is GaaS it's not connecting to the internet to find what is the time from a reliable source, it's just asking your system what time it is and trusting that information.Anyway a gimmick I enjoy and that has appeared in a couple games is being able to turn enemies into weapons. You see this in souls games and Disgaea to name a few. The nemesis system is also groundbreaking and it is a shame that it has been patented.
schizo hours
>>730818598No, it is a gimmick when content is hidden because you didn't check that specific spot at exactly 3 in the morning. It's just a lazy way to hide stuff and turn it into some sort of "feature" that incorporates the time of the day.
>>730818587>>730818714what is there to not get
>>730818818nta but saying that checking something at a specific time is a "gimmick that forces you to change the game clock" is retarded, you're so addicted to completionism that you're operating under the assumption that catching something neat in a specific spot at 3AM is something you NEED to do to be happy as opposed to just being a neat little easter egg for people playing late at nightyou see that the game proves a little treat for doing something, and conflate it with "I MUST DO THIS TO RECIEVE THIS VERY IMPORTANT TREAT" but also won't actually do the thing and instead refer to it as a requirement to change the clock
>>730819271Being forced to play at a specific time or date to experience something in-game has always been obnoxious and changing the system clock is the natural response to it. If you don't care that kind of stuff, you also wouldn't notice if it wasn't there in the first place. There's way better ways to let the player randomly come across something surprising than the real life time.
