The level design was not that great, the levels are only fun the first go around and only some parts of the levels have anything.
The moons were unimportant, and the way to get them got real lazy.
I also hope they don't make the game brain-dead easy and go full DKB with it.

Bowsers Fury was fine. Worst thing they could do is make the world bigger without filling it out properly. I have a feeling thought that they are going to look more toward BotW than they are BF.

No it wasn't. Level design was building blocks tier and they recycled missions as much as Odyssey did with LESS areas to explore. Not to mention you had to wait for Bowser's timer if you needed to destroy Bowser blocks and he wasn't in fury mode already.

I think the next game should keep the collectibles as moons, but make them full moons instead. And give them a blue hue, like a blue moon. They'd look like blue discs from a distance, the triple moons could be switched back to stars. And Cappy should stay, but give him different functions like a sustained hover and some kind of forward facing projectile maybe? A laser or a stream, something like that. Maybe even a super jump or a rocket jump directly upwards. And since Odyssey was a world tour this time Mario could go on a vacation and stick to just one general location for the levels. Call it Mario Beach.

People liked Odyssey's design and gameplay so I think they'd love another Mario game like it.

This is just a tacit admission that the majority of content in BotW and vast majority in TotK is filler and not good game design. If you have to shame your player for engaging too much with the systems and content you specifically designed the gameplay and goals of the game around, you have failed as a game designer. That's not on the player.
