>when I was a kid I could just play vidya >now I need to have podcasts playing in the background while I play vidyaWhat the fuck happened?
>>730842204>I need to have podcasts playing in the background while I play vidyaNo, you don't need that, and you just have ADHD. Would you believe me if I said I've never watched a podcast?
>>730842204You're afraid of wasting your time so you try to have as many stimuli as possible so you dont have time to think about things other than leisure.
you guys have time to think about leisure?
>can't decide between having music and video essay info dumps in the background
i feel like a retard sitting in silence
>>730842204Constant overstimulation due to the rapid build up of electronic media has gotten your brain wired to need it for it feel any good feels anymoreLiterally tech-addicted
if we're talking about repetitive games, like roguelites, puzzle games or casual games, then it's okay.If we're talking about AAA FPS games or story games, then that means those games are shit, either you should play better games or find something more constructive to do with your time
I either focus on one or the other too much if I try that.
>>730842520i used to listen to military history videos when grinding in mmosnow i just watch them properly and don't play shitty grindfests anymore
>>730842443>i feel like a retard sitting in silenceThat's a good thing, buddy. It means you're like everyone else, but not completely. It means you may have self-awareness. Self-awareness is a good thing, and people who have it are more likeable. If you have no idea how other people see you, you'll be like most ethnics, and the people of 4chan. You don't want that. >>730842602That happens to me sometimes. I'll have Youtube taking up 3/4 of my screen and NoxPlayer in the last quarter, but sometimes I'll realise I'm not even watching the video. I become really absorbed when doing stuff, and that's why I don't like to multitask. I love watching Youtube, but I don't like to game and Youtube, and I'd rather eat and watch. Like, right now, it's 4chan in the 3/4. I do not mind the silence.
brainrot. Cure: not being a fucking retard.
I would say this is common, but only because a lot of people are isolated and live alone, so hearing someone else talk in the background is supposed to be therapeutic/combat that issue. Or that is my theory anyway...but it's more common than you think. I personally never got into podcasts, but I can understand the appeal and why some people like having them on in the background.
>>730842905>I personally never got into podcasts, but I can understand the appeal and why some people like having them on in the background.I can see the appeal too. It's no different to how people would leave the TV on in the past. I'm a Millennial, so I actually used to watch TV, and one day I realised Youtube was the new TV.
>>730842204What game? Something like factorio is fine to have a podcast. Something like half life is not, unless it's a second playthrough. I played silksong completely by itself until I got to the post game where I was just following map genie to to collect stuff.>>730842817Multi tasking is a meme. You can't watch two things, just switch easily. That's why it has to be a simple game+audio only podcast.
>>730842520>If we're talking about AAA FPS games or story gamesthink hes got bigger problems if hes playin this bullshit
I always play video games with either music or a stream playing in the background. usually xqc.
>>730842204You just realized you can have both, like cooking and listening to something. And podcasts didn't exist when you were a kid, assuming you are close to 40.
>>730842963I use to fall asleep with the TV on sometimes just because it calmed my anxiety/nerves. I never got an autism diagnosis but I'm sure I have some form of it. I've always had anxiety/nervousness issues, even as a kid. The TV on at night did relax me, so I figured that was related to autism. Of course nowadays a lot of people need background noise to relax/feel calm so who knows.
>>730842992>think hes got bigger problems if hes playin this bullshitKek, this.
>>730843164>The TV on at night did relax me, so I figured that was related to autism.I'm actually relaxed when I watch stuff on Youtube too. Like, I'll legit fall asleep watching a Dota match or Counter Strike 2 match. You think it's not possible, but I watch with low volume and it's like gaming is ASMR for me. I never leave the video running intentionally.
>>730843154>usually xqcPerfect for background noise because no one can understand what the fuck he is saying anyway
>>730842204When you were a kid you could just immerse yourself in vidya and everything else would take care of itself. Your parents would set out the rest of your day, make food for you, and you'd see your friends at school. But as an adult you have a lot more responsibilities, all these things they did you must now do yourself, and what's worse is your friends have all moved away. You don't get to see them in person anymore. So the podcasts make your life seem mildly less empty, just because you're listening to other people talk. Humans crave social situations, and if they can't obtain them they will find substitutes as best they can.
>>730842307>you just have ADHDThis is the answer, any other answer in the thread is retarded. 99% of millennials have ADHD due to microplastics or some vaccine or some shit. All of us are like this
>>730843282I find the concept of ASMR to be hilarious because we never had a name for it, and it didn't really exist in the 90's and early 2000's. You could call it "whisper talking" but nobody really knew what to call it.
>>730843282My Youtube history is the stupidest shit. Like, why do I have these McDonald's videos. People have dreams, life goals, and shit, and I'm just fiending for a burger.
>>730842905That's pretty much it for me. Ever since I started living on my own, the house is deathly quiet. No tv on because I stopped paying for dish/cable because anything I want to watch I can just find on the internet. No parents, siblings, or roommate talking on the phone or each other. Just me and my cat. These days I'll mute in-game music and throw on a livestream in the background. I can't divide my attention between the two, but having a voice or two in the back just doing their own thing is weirdly calming.Sometimes I do still get overstimulated, especially if the streamer or game they're playing is loud, so I just close out the stream and turn the music back on so I can re-focus.
Stop playing videogames that don't require brain activity. The only time I ever watch videos during gaming is if I'm playing something like classic WoW that has very low-apm combat during solo questing. Outside of that, I'm focused on vidya.
>>730843553Aversion to loud noises is a sign of autism. It's why noise cancelling headphones are so popular with autistic people, and you usually see them wearing them in-stores, but they look retarded. If you ever see someone wearing over the ear headphones in-stores; they're probably autistic and have social anxiety. They're probably struggling to even go into the store, but the headphones block a lot of the noise, so it probably relaxes them. You can get the same effect with earbuds like Airpods, but the over the ear kind are usually stronger.
>>730842905My mom is like this and she's a boomer. She always turns the TV on for "background noise" even when she's not in the room and doing something else.
>>730843714>if you don't like loud noises that means you're LE AUTISTICNo, I don't like loud noises because it's distracting and annoying.
>>730842204How does this differ from listening to podcasts in the background?
>>730842204I don't care for podcasts. Depending on the game I like to listen to audio books. I played surviving mars while listening to the red/green/blue mars books, and it was a pretty comfy experience.
>>730843793You just can't understand it from an autistic person's perspective. If you hated loud noises so badly then why not wear noise-cancelling headphones in public? Because you have self-awareness and know it looks stupid. An autistic person lacks self-awareness, so they'll wear them because they feel better with it despite it looking stupid.
>>730843714>If you ever see someone wearing over the ear headphones in-stores; they're probably autistic and have social anxiety.Or I just have over-ear headphones that I mostly use around the house and sometimes if I'm going grocery shopping saturday morning and I'm just chilling out to music. Also my ears get so fucking gross when I use the plug style headphones.
>>730843991lol. GAY
>>730843160>podcasts didn't exist when you were a kidTalk radio is functionally identical
>>730844069>Because you have self-awareness and know it looks stupidWhy is it stupid? I think you just have no empathy, and that's why you think it looks stupid. Do you know what a hearing aid is? It's for people that can't hear well. If someone hears too well, I don't see why they shouldn't be allowed to wear something.
>>730842204you've fried your brain with over-stimulation from the addictive use of technologyget off the puter and go outside
>>730844714If I could see the people of 4chan, I would think they looked stupid regardless of what they were wearing. I don't think "it looks stupid" should be used on this website. You guys can use it, but hopefully in the 90% auto filtered section. This thread has a lot of posts for one hour, so I'm thinking the NPCs don't like each other's company.
>>730842307NTA but I believe you since I've never listened/watched one either.
>>730844825>go outsideand do what?
>>730845001>I've never listened/watched one either.I actually lied, and I've watched stuff similar to podcasts. Like, look at these videos. Why are they so long? It's because people are talking between matches, so it's a mix of podcast and gameplay. The gameplay is what interests me, obviously. They're just super long if you watch them live. I think podcasts are stupid, to be honest. Like, why do I want to listen to people talk.
>>730843160>>730844539Or having a TV on in the backgroundSpeaking on which, here is background noise kino of the highest order, tousands of hours of VHS recordings on TV from the 80s/90shttps://app.raindrop.io/my/0/archive/item/841268465/edit?autoFocus=tags
>>730845130I've never watched that either or anything remotley close to that. I use youtube for karaoke and to play music videos during parties. The rest of the time I'm just playing vidya without anything else playing.
You got tinnitus
>>730845467>having a TV on in the backgroundZoomers wouldn't know about that. You need to be Millennial or older. I suppose they could have Youtube running on their TV. I remember watching Kitchen Nightmares on my TV through Youtube. I watched it on real TV too, but that was further back.
>>730845745The day my parents got rid of cable might genuinely be one of the worst days of my lifeI hate streaming and always have. Cable TV was a central part of the home environment. We marked the passage of time by TV guide. Mid afternoon, it was NCIS, weekend nights when dad came home it was Forensic FilesYou'd know it was Christmas when the cozy winter commercials started playing and we'd tune in to rankin bass on 25 Days of Kino. TV bumpers were a lot of fun, much better than State Farm ads nonstopMy parents got an 80" 4K smart TV in the living room, and it's basically only used by my dad to watch political commentary, AI movie recaps, and police body cam vids on YoutubeThat's all you hear throughout the house now, either that or dead silence because no one knows what to put on. It was much better to tune in to a channel and have something run for background noise at least. It at least let you know the other people in the house were alive.
>>730846249>The day my parents got rid of cable might genuinely be one of the worst days of my lifeReally, dude? Are you afraid of dying? I don't even relate to nostalgia people because the current times means I'm closer to death, and so I wouldn't go back.
>start playing FF15 while listening to """extremist""" podcast>super comfy>start wanting to play the game so I can listen to the podcast>listening to the podcast without the game doesn't feel the same>beat the game and haven't listened sinceWeird feels. I'm considering doing a replay just to have an excuse to experience those feels again. Alternatively FF10 since I can follow a guide and make the game as trivial as 15 was.
>>730846351>"""extremist""" podcastWhat do they talk about on an extremist podcast? I joined a Right Wing Discord server once and they banned me for being too extreme.
The only games I'm not bored by these days are exploratory RPGs like Lords of the Fallen or very action and precision driven games like Nioh. All the games today are gay. I've been playing Infinite Wealth and I'm bored beyond belief. The characters are annoying, the story is nonsense and not in a fun way. I'm dozing off.
>>730842204>he wants to listen to retards talking about sunning their balls and random political bullshit while he plays games instead of the sounds and music of the gamehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tf5qwoCE6eY
Probably due to the fact when you are younger you went to school and socialized with your peers. So when you played vidya at home you didn't need that interaction anymore as you were already simulated in that aspect.
>>730846343>I don't even relate to nostalgia people because the current times means I'm closer to death, and so I wouldn't go back.Isn't that kinda the whole thing about nostalgia is just to stay stuck in the past and cling onto those good times? I guess thinking about the past makes the passage of time more apparent but I don't really think about getting old or dying that much because I'm still in my early 20s. The normal life of raising a family and owning a home feels unattainable, so I can't really picture what the rest of my life is gonna be like
>>730846860>The normal life of raising a family and owning a home feels unattainable, so I can't really picture what the rest of my life is gonna be likeIt could just be posting on 4chan, which is kind of lame. I'm a decade older than you and that's what I do. I mean look at these McDonald's videos: >>730843516Wait til you reach my age and it'll make sense.
>>730842905I think you are right. Some older boomers i know have both the TV and radio on at the same time so its like there are several different convo's going on at the same time so they can switch between the convo's or just feel like they are somewhere crowded or something
>always been too poor to afford cable>have had over-the-air TV in the background for my whole life instead>literally almost all the programming is tailored towards middle-aged white women and senior citizens>majority of programs are true crime/cold case stuff and soap operas/reality TV, rest are reruns of shows from either the 70's/80's or 2000's>majority of ads are for stuff like wrinkle removal/hairline recovery>one of the newer late-night ads is unironically an AI voiced ad for prescriptionless boner pillsi don't know if this is better or worse than most podcasts honestly
>>730842204dunno, guess you got the brainrot bug. i can't imagine having two pieces of entertainment/art/whatever happening at once, especially when one is a mixed media like video games. sounds like slop hell.
>>730842204I like listening to spooky stories while i play stalker or project silverfish. Really gets you in the mood for those underground sections
>>730843154He's fucking unbearable to watch nowadays>2 hours of watching zoomer tiktoks>2 hours of talking about asmongold, hasan, or politics>8 hours of minecraft (with complaining the entire time)>1 hour of watching people get shot to death>rest of the stream is league of legends dogshit, or other games he's not good atWhat is there to enjoy?
>Tv on youtube playing episodes of something>stream going on second monitor>videos loaded up in other tabs to switch when im bored>general threads on other tabs to occasionally check in onits time to game
>>730842204you were just a poorfag who did not have anysecond screen available
I used to be able to read and watch tv at the same time quite effectively. Audio and peripheral vision then just read in the gaps, keeping two information streams in mind. It just went away some years ago and now I end up repeatedly rewinding if I try.Never been able to listen to stuff while playing games, though. I just give them too much focus. I have, however, been playing minesweeper while watching tv and that works pretty well.
>>730842443Listen to music then
I listen to Joe Rogan and Asmongold when I play BO6 because they own the libtards lolololololol.
>>730847225like creepypastas?
>>730842204Do you drink/smoke weed? I had this problem too for most of my life. It's weird, I didn't make a conscious decision to change this behavior, I only just noticed recently after seeing a couple of anons talking about it that I no longer do it and must have silently stopped it years ago. I now quite enjoy playing games and just taking in the game's ambience with no other distractions. The only difference in my life I can chalk it down to is that I no longer drink, after being a severe alcoholic for most of my adult life. I also don't smoke anymore. My guess is I was severely dried up on dopamine whenever I was sober, leading to this type of compulsion. Also worth nothing I have ADHD and OCD.
>>730843164falling asleep watching tv is an exceptionally normal thing.
I only do this when a game isn't good enough to hold my full attention, if I'm really enjoying a game then other noise is just a nuisance.
>>730842204>>730842397>>730842520stop playing shitting games, retards
>>730842204If by podcasts you mean r34 futa of the vidya I'm playing, then it just means you've consumed too much media making it easy for you to predict what's going to happen next, so you get bored easily. Also when you were a kid you were dumb as fuck and did not have as much life experience. Internet was slow as fuck and primitive then, there weren't as many guides to follow to 100% a game in one weekend, you had sleep on that shit, ask your friends next day at a school or even ask the rich asshole kid who's parents bought him game guides what to do.
Do you people do this at school/uni/work as well?
>>730849620>Internet was slow as fuck and primitive then, there weren't as many guides to follow to 100% a game in one weekend, you had sleep on that shit, ask your friends next day at a school or even ask the rich asshole kid who's parents bought him game guides what to do.unc moment
>>730848793/x/ Greentexts mostly, maybe creepy pastas or creepcast if i wanna laugh
>>730849741I never used a phone in school, because I didn't have one, but I did something similar. I would always get told off for talking in class. I just didn't give a shit, and I wanted to talk to my friend instead. Even now, I don't understand the point of school. It's like training you for eventual employment>forced to go there in the morning>stuck there all day doing boring shit>go home in the afternoonIt's basically a job, and that's why I hated it. The whole thing feels very anti-human, considering I couldn't do what I wanted to, which was talk to my friend. Fucking slave society bullshit. I can't wait to be dead and no longer have to live in the garbage they created.
That's me but with browsing and DLing porn
>>730850000Nice quads. It's sad for many zoomies that are growing/grew up with multiple screens. They lack the ability to focus on one thing and won't be able to enjoy the experience of older games. My son and daughter can play single player games fine, but when their friends come over to play games their friends jump between screens and easily forget what they're suppose to be doing in single player games.>>730849741I watch tv shows on Hulu on my phone while it's in my pocket. Some shows have too much going on like Boston Legal where I can't follow along with the conversations while working or there's sexy shit going on like The Shield and I have to stop working, pull my phone out, and rewind.I've mostly been watching crime procedural shows. Castle, Criminal Minds, Bones, Burn Notice, Lie to Me, Elementary etc. or rewatching Family Guy and American Dad.
>>730842204as a kid you had friends and family around to talk to while playing.now you sit in your room alone and wonder why it is so quiet.try hopping in a vc with some friends even if you aren't playing together.
If you do this for games you've played 100 times it shouldn't really matter i mean Ive listened to the fallout NV radio 10000x over it gets tiring so It makes sense to put someone on while playing. If youre doing this while playing a new game you are legit a retard. You only have yourself to blame when a horror game isnt as a scary or a relaxing game isnt as comfy because you ruined any immersion the devs worked for.
>>730842204Other way around for me>used to farm in MMOs with all sorts of stuff playing in the background>now I play in complete silence when I don't feel like listening to the game's ost
>>730850837I'm a silence enjoyer too. The only time I listen to music is between matches, and I do it to lift my spirits for my next match. I'll just have some rap playing while in the queue. https://youtu.be/1lQDPOfMUIA?si=4m4sYS97MKHYNk_-I don't even play music during matches, because I think it's distracting.
>>730843154I watched like 10 minutes of this guy when trying to find gameplay of something, how the fuck is he even popular? Aside from his mumbling he's about as entertaining as a wet tissue.

All ADHD is misdiagnosed autism and you got it from your parents who at least one of was very autistic. Your brothers and sisters probably have it too. Autism isnt social retardation its having fucked up senses that make you socially retarded and destroy your attention span. Literally start weight lifting or get a weighted blanket and your anxiety and attention span will go back to normal. No more fidgeting no more pacing no more walking on your toes or chewing on stuff all the time Here is an inspirational quote from sonic.

>>730851421>not fully focusingThe point is that neither needs full focus. One or both have an upper limit of how much focus can be used. This leaves space for the mind to wander and that can easily overtake the primary task if the space isn't filled. Think of it like music in puzzle/action games that helps put you in a flow state.
