Pokemon is proof that nostalgia can carry outright mediocrity. Strip away the brand and these games would be laughed out of the industry. They’re technically behind, mechanically stagnant, and designed so safely that even basic strategy is optional. Every generation pretends to “innovate” with a gimmick instead of improving the core experience. The worlds are empty, the AI is braindead, the difficulty is nonexistent, and the visuals look like early access indie projects despite coming from the richest media franchise on Earth. You people don’t defend Pokemon because the games are good, you defend it because it was your childhood. If any other studio released games this unpolished and repetitive they’d be called lazy and incompetent. Pokemon doesn’t get praised for quality, it gets excused because it’s Pokemon.

The 2D Pokemon games are legit masterpieces. The 3D era is largely slop.

>>730843020The IP definitely stagnated in regards to mainline games once they hit 3DS and seemed to basically just stop trying. Even with the 'new hardware' and move to 3D it still shouldn't have been as bad as it was. Or at least the technical issues should have stopped after XY. Even with various hardware limitations their amount of innovation is abysmal or basically non-existent at this point.
The 3 biggest falls from grace in gaming>Xbox>Blizzard>Pokemon
>>730843020What really pisses me off is that all the cool monster raising games like Digimon World and Monster Rancher died but this piece of shit is still popular grrrrrrrrrrrr
didn't read past the title but it's true. The highest grossing media franchise of all time with absolutely no explanation for why that's the case apart from luck.
Yeah, but like... get over it.
>>730843020Pokemon was pretty good initially. Gen 2 in particular was very impressive, and even gen 1 was very promising even though the art was a bit rough and how those games were a buggy messBefore that you only really had SMT and DQV as monster battlers, and Pokemon was a pretty impressive and fun twist on them. The level of quality has been godawful for 25 years now though. Very very sad that they refuse to make good games anymore
>>730843020Is it though? All I ever see is people bitching about it
>>730843020>You people don’t defend Pokemon because the games are good, you defend it because it was your childhoodThe huge backlash from rabid pokemon fans when Palworld released was further proof of this phenomenon. That and jealousy.>Oh this game has a feature I've always wanted in pokemon... but it isn't pokemon therefore I hate it!
>>730843459It's actually kind of crazy Digimon still has enough of a niche to stay alive after all these years.
>>730845845Myeah aside from this PS: Vita gem most of the games seem pretty boring to me though. There was also a reboot of the original adventure anime a few seasons ago.
>>730843020Even when the games were at peak they weren't that good when compared to more traditional jrpgs. I remember complaining on gamefaqs as a kid.
Nostalgia is not a bad thing. It sucks that you missed out
>>730843020everyone knows this
>>730847502How about that one save slot that has that limited time event that you need to save over if you want to play the game again?
>>730843020Do you know how old Pokémon is?
>>730843020I need something better from you bitter zoomers besides just "nostalgia bad". We get it. You missed out on peak happiness in 1999 when Pokemania was a global phenomenon. Its not my fault your childhood is Roblox
>>730843020Pokémon is quite old
>>730843020Easy there Pokefag/Nintenfag will call you Palfag/Sonybro
>>730848090I wished the gameboy boxes weren't cardboard. You couldn't really keep that stuff around as a kid.
>>730843020I have seen some variation of this opinion for the first thirty years of my life, will I have to see it for the last eighty?
>>730847680Nostalgia is like any other drug, dealing with an excess of Nostalgia is how you cause cult-like behavior. It is fine to be a pokefag, i grew up with Pokemania and know the good the bad and the ugly sides of that shit, but one thing i cannot state enough to anybody: Learn to let go.
>>730845775Are you ready for Trading Cards Palbro?https://www.dexerto.com/palworld/palworld-is-getting-its-own-trading-card-game-in-2026-3303331/
>>730847891This, why can’t we have a Pokémon game with multiple save slots? I want to replay Legends Arceus from the beginning but I don’t want to delete my only save file.
>>730848406My only worry is the gameplay, i hope they take notes from YGO and implement the archetype structure rather than going by the same shit magic does with colors. I want subfactions of palworld's shit so you can justify a batch of cards like wixen covens vs katress covens with each having a Pal with matching colors, or rip off wh40k's Orks and have cyborg pals with big metal bits strapped to them, be a shoota or a choppa.
>>730843020>If any other studio released games this unpolished and repetitive they’d be called lazy and incompetent. Can you prove it?
>>730845775>Oh this game has a feature I've always wanted in pokemon...There's really nothing in Palworld Pokemon needs to have.
>>730848090Holy fuck I'm old
The last Pokémon game I've played was BW2.I now just occasionally play Showdown or PokeMMO.
>>730843020Easily, its also one of the shittiest gaming franchise
