In hindsight, Retro probably could have made LT/RT + d-pad switch beams and visors, opening up the C-stick for traditional look.
But at the same time, MP was designed around lock + strafe.

Nintendo/Retro got it right with Prime, they de-emphasized precise aiming with prime and focused on designing the game around it which resulted in one of gaming's masterpieces. Precise aiming isn't fun to do outside of multiplayer
