>“Prison’s boring,” Diego said. “Any way I can spend hours of my life in a fantasy world is good for me. Also, I get to interact with personalities that don’t want to fight, rape or kill me. That’s a plus.”
fucking kek'd
>>
>Research has shown that reading fiction has the power to enhance a reader’s capacity for empathy and understanding. Might certain types of video games have a similar effect?
>I asked Diego if the care he now gives his digital pet signals some kind of meaningful change within him.
>“I wouldn’t say that,” he said. “I named my dog Keith, after my cellmate. It was just funny to beat up on him whenever he frustrated me. Better than doing it in real life, you know?”
Oh, Diego

>In July 2023, the for-profit prison communication company Securus began selling a game called Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town to people with tablets in state prisons. It is one of 11 Nintendo Game Boy Advance titles approved by the Missouri Department of Corrections.
No one wants to admit it but this is completely fucked any way you look at it. Like, if prison is a punishment then why are for-profit companies allowed to sell entertainment? If prison is rehabiliation why are video games allowed? If the severity of prison is determined by how much money you can pay then why are fucking GBA titles still being sold? Why not just allow people to buy their way out?
>>
>>730848165
I dont really see a problem with this.
Would you rather Jamal was contemplating his next melted toothbrush shank and rape or play a game where he feeds ducks?
Unfortunately we cant just execute them so with that in mind I think this is better.
>>
>>730848165
Yeah dude, prison is designed to drain as much wealth from inmates and their families as possible. If it was meant to reform it would be totally different and we wouldn't have ridiculous laws locking up people who know they didn't do anything wrong.
>>
>>730848165
>why are for-profit companies allowed to sell entertainment?

Because it's only about profit.
>>
>>730848165
>Prison being rehabilitation
I wish I still thought this
>>
>>730848669
US 'Justice' System built top to bottom to profit from stealing peoples' lives away from them.
>>
>>730848165
>video games is somehow detrimental to rehabilitation
>>730848776
>paying for someone's housing and loads of people to make sure they don't kill each other so they maybe volunteer to work a couple hours a day is somehow a profitable business model
I never understood this argument. How much fucking money do you think a license plate sells for?
>>
>>730848165
It's not like selling entertainment to inmates is new.
They've basically always been able to buy playing cards and chess/checkers sets.
They've had music players and personal radios with earbuds/headphones for a long time.

It's easier to keep order if they aren't all bored out of their minds, and the prisons get the pittance they pay the inmates for work handed back to them.
>>
>>730848913
When the food is shit and the living conditions are shit, you can easily make your money back by forcing someone to sew buttons on clothes or stuff toys for 8 hours straight, especially when you make the prisoners pay for their own food with that meager 'paycheck'
>>
>>730848913
I'm pretty sure most of the income of private prisons comes from government contracts, but they get those contracts by keeping costs as low as possible.
>>
>>730848913
>How much fucking money do you think a license plate sells for?

They charge the inmates $1 for 20 cent ramen. They charge them $12/hr to watch cartoons.
>>
>>730848165
american prisons are not for rehabilitation they are mostly in place for slave labor. if they actually rehabilitated people they wouldn't be able to take advantage of people who get out having worse prospects than everyone else, leading them back into crime to re-prison them for more slave labor.
>>
>>730849158
This, it's this. They are basically just taking government money to house prisoners
>>
>>730848165
>rehabilitation
Ah, to be young and stupid.
>>
>>730844360
Waging makes me wish I was in prison, not an American one where I have to be around niggers but those European ones about "rehabilitation"

>>730848447
the point is, if you accept that this is fine, why the fuck are they only just now allowed to sell GBA games? if you think that escapism is okay for serving a jail sentence then why not just give each inmate a PS5? why not allow them to buy a subscription to WoW and play that?
>>
>>730848165
Wait, what? Are they selling ROMs to inmates to play on their android tablets? How is this legal?
>>

oh no, do those tablets have a GBA built into them? nintenbros... that's not emulation is it??
>>
>>730849349
The government can do whatever it wants anon, it used Pokemon music for some ICE stuff just a month or two ago while nintendo seethed
>>
>>730848165
Prisons are neither punishment nor rehabilitation. They are for isolation. It's to keep those freaks away from normal people.

Wait, why is a company allowed to sell emulated GBA games on prison tablets?
Are the games themselves licensed? What emulator are they using?

remember when norway said that giving rayman 2 to inmates was a human rights violation?
>>
>>730849520
what are they going to do to the people playing the pirated copies, send them to jail? lmao
>>
>>730849768
It's the people selling the pirated copies that should be sent to jail alongside the people playing them.
>>
>>730849768
It's like Freedom Wars. You can get your game, but you get years added on to your sentence.
>>
>>730849306
>>730849349
It's not a fucking PS5, It's a shitty custom android tablet designed specifically for use in prisons where most things are restricted, they have to pay for anything that's not, and it's all able to be monitored or shut down at the prison's whim.

That's not what my post was about. Selling pirated copies of media is illegal.
>>
>>730848165
have you been living under a rock? american prisons have been for profit since long before you were born
>>730849510
>It's to keep those freaks away from normal people.
prisons cost you, the tax payer, money though. and the profit all goes to the prisons
>>
>>730849937
>>730850007
what, no obviously the entire country does not run on prison slave labor but that doesn't mean prison slave labor does not exist. very famously there are prison fire fighter squadrons for example. you aren't too bright are you champs

Wasn't it Mindustry?

>he think inmates never had forms of escapism before gba games were released
nigger do you think jail is just 20 guards waiting to beat up a prisoner the second they daydream or read one of the books available to them, or use one of the computers (and tablets now btw) that are also provided to them, or participate in any other recreation program
I'm sorry the logistics and rules of building a sturdy and or safe enough computer that Jamal the Retard can use without making a gun out of or beating someone to death with werent fast enough for you
