What is it that made this game in particular so fun? No one seems to deny it's the most enjoyable modern RE
Name a single reason to play Demake 2's B scenario, slop lover.
>>730846542It's a remake of the game of one of the more popular entries that has a setting people really love. A good blend of RE4-like combat and classic RE creepiness/eerie atmosphere.
>>730846542>funI know it might sound stupid but I never saw RE games as fun. They are like a challenge to me. Challenge to get through. Its survival horror. I enjoy the gameplay but its not like a mario game or something like that where its happy and fun, its dark, depressing and can be difficult.
>>730846542I still prefer the original resident evil 2 but the remake is a good game I put 60 hours into
>>730846542Pacing is always what separates great games from good games. This game in particular isn't very long, but every minute is engaging and purposeful. There isn't a moment of boredom when you play it.
>>730846542It's like a new version of the PS1 games. They added a mod that lets you play in fixed camera mode and it feels amazingly like a real fixed cam remake without even changing that much, mechanics wise. Mostly just auto-aim like the PS1 games, combined appropriately with not seeing where you're aiming half the time. Everything else is the same as regular REmake 2 (such as moving while aiming).Remake 2 is fun because RE2 was fun and it keeps the same formula deep down, which is why that mod works
The layout of RPD especially is unique and probably something a current designer wouldn't come up with outside of copying an older game. People whinge about backtracking but going back and forth across the same area multiple times and not having it be a chore is a much different art than most games that take their cues from RE4 where you're always pushing forward to the next area.
>>730848432this just looks like it'd take out the tension of the game
>>730846542It spent like a decade in development, with a clear amount of passion and love for the source material poured in. The other remakes were pumped out in a few years with a fraction of the focus and effort.
>>730846542Good level design
>>730846542meh original re 2 is the true fun game for me, i cant enjoy zombies tanking 11 headshots and still going.
>>730851070>i cant enjoy zombies tanking 11 headshots and still going.This. Isn't there a mod that fixes that?
>>730846542idk why, but I found the game cozy af
Rem4ke was better lol
It just works. >1st playthrough horror is super effective, you never know where Mr X is gonna come from or if a zombie will follow you through doors or pop through a window or how many shots it takes to stay dead >good level design, it even does the thing people jack off Dark Souls for where the sewers loop back around to the police station
im kind of tired of the big monster follows you around shit now honestly
I played OG RE2 for the first time before the remake came out, and while I do agree with most that the OG has superior atmosphere and content, it had too much of an action tone. Despite its flaws, I honestly think that the remake is a better survival horror game than the OG. Playing Remake 2 on hardcore for the first time felt like playing Remake 1 for the first time. I swear before I even got to the police station in OG RE2 I had nearly 70 handgun bullets, while in Remake 2 I was scraping by through the whole game.
>>730850912>implying there's any tension with third person view
>>730852369>while in Remake 2 I was scraping by through the whole gameLikely because of the fact the zombies take 20 shots eachThey were already sponges in the OG but they took it to another level. 4 Remake has a similar issue of enemies taking a bunch of shots to stagger.
>>730852480The only issue with that is skill related
>>730846607You get the true ending
>>730852624Never claimed it was an issue but it sure feels unsatisfying as fuck if you decide to kill a zombie
>>730852480It's a survival horror game. Enemies are supposed to lead to decisions based upon resource management. If you don't like that go play RE6. I do agree with you about RE4 remake though
>>730851070>>730851189They don't take that many shots if you just slow down and let the reticle focus. It's to discourage spraying. And ironically since you're saying you're a fan of the original, the lack of tank controls slowing you down is probably something you've complained about.
>>730852841There are ways to balance that without making enemies sponges. Maybe just give the player less fucking ammo? That just seems kind of obvious. Like I said, laying 20 shots into an enemy just doesn't feel good from a gameplay perspective>The game mechanics aren't supposed to feel good it's le survival horrorshut the fuck up
I've been wanting to play this game but have been putting it off until after I play the OG RE2. Will playing this version make the OG RE2 a worse game to play in the future?
>>730852402? kek
>>730846542I hated this. You don‘t have enough ammo to fight enemies so you end up just stunning them and running away. Then again, re4 is the only re game i played before this
>>730853034You do this in every thread, you fucking schizo.
>>730846542
>>730846542I'm sure there are those who won't accept it's anything but compromised actionslop, but I think what made it so good is that it actually did a fantastic job of preserving the classic survival horror gameplay of old Resident Evil, at least on Hardcore, and even as someone who has no issue with fixed cameras and tank controls, the challenge of having to manually aim your shots makes it an outright improvement over the previous control scheme. In every other RE I've played, which is most of the main ones except for 5 and 6, the low ammo meme is really just a meme but in this game you actually feel it. Enemies are too durable to be comfortable and don't flinch when you want them to, against the pistol anyway. You're not rewarded for killing them and it's always theoretically better to just thread the needle and slip by. Item space is limited, encouraging backtracking and going out lightly armed or unarmed. The environments are circuitous and loop back on each other. It just gets all the major survival horror beats right. It was also one of the first games to use yellow paint/tape (I think RE7 was patient zero) but going back to it it's insane how much more restrained and not obnoxious or even all that noticeable it is. Makes it a real shame to see what they did with it later.
>>730846542best game since the OG RE2
>>730854182>You don‘t have enough ammo to fight enemies so you end up just stunning them and running away.yeah that's the point. that's like the first thing everyone tells you about RE before 4. you're supposed to be a miserly Jewish motherfucker constantly on the lookout for ways to dodge paying the bullet tax.
>>730854572Guess the genre just isn‘t for me then. Curious how they balance it out in re9
I'm not really intelligent or articulate enough to pin it down exactly but it feels like it specifically addressed the general malaise of modern game design. at least the rpd portion. having a game designed around a logical structure that remains in place and evolves over time, enemies that are long term obstacles rather than just a checklist or resource pinatas, enemy interaction that is much centered on evasion and spacial logic rather than rather than just stats under the hood. it's not a perfect game by means and has plenty of shortcomings but it's undeniable that at least broached areas the industry had been neglecting.
The fact that you're a normalfag drone who never liked Resident Evil and now are clapping your grubby hands at Crapcum turning RE into a product for the modern audiences.
I think the tanky zombies make sense. On one hand they get to showcase their gore system, and on the other adds an element of uncertainty to the game. Each time one falls you have to wonder if it's really dead. If every headshot was a confirmed kill but you only got twelve bullets at the station you would lose that dimension. And it's something you can already experience in game when you get the shotgun, the guaranteed headpops make things less tense
>>730854740For me, it's the nude mods. They were a genuine breath of fresh air in a desert of awful, nightmarish nude mods.
>>730854441The thing about RE2 yellow tape is that it actually makes sense. Yeah, no one needs to be fucking around with the breaker switch for a door when one errant opening could get everyone killed and Irons has been fucking around, so tape it up. When it looks natural in the world and it isn't the most handholdy bullshit for basic navigation, this sort of stuff is fine. Then you get RE4 where the solutions to puzzles and virtually every single individual object of destructible note is marked and it becomes plain silly.
>>730853034The point of the enemies being sponges is so that you can't always take them out easily and can end up trapped and struggling to land shots as they advance on you and back you into a corner or another zombie, creating tension. Just giving the player less ammo and the enemies less health wouldn't replicate this dynamic.RE has always been like this to an extent, zombies in REmake take a lot of pistol bullets and knife swings to go down too, and those are the only two weapons for which ammo is really plentiful. So taking enemies out quickly has a higher cost.
