warcraft 3 changed the lore. I heard that some of the the writers were depressed in the early days and had a more negative outlook on life but once they became successful they became more positive and wanted their stories to be more feel good stories, the tortured artist meme. Its just a rumor but idk, they did the same to kerrigan/zerg in starcraft
