Why didn't they just put little touch pads on the joy cons instead of making you take them off to use them as mice?

Where exactly
They're already cluttered as fuck
Do you seriously think they would've replaced the sticks?

I'm looking at a huge empty space right at the bottom, clear as day.
Valve managed to do it with the Steam Deck, there's no way Nintendo couldn't have done it as well.
And replacing the thumb sticks with touchpads would really not even be a bad idea in itself.

Because Nintendo designs their hardware for their games while Valve designs their hardware for pc gaming.

To play what, Bing Bing Wahoo Kart Racer Party 14? Fuck out of here.

that will happen on the switch 3, the joycons on that thing will be big enough to add a decent touchpad

>switch 3
There won't be a Switch 3 just as much as there won't be a Steam Deck 3.0 after the 2.0. Moore's Law is Dead, Switch 2 is enough.

What games?

The joycon mice has seen far more uses in games (PvZ Replanted, Metroid Prime 4, Kunitsugami, Yobarai Detective, Cyberpunk, Red Dead Redemption 1 and Mario vs Wario) in less than a single year while the touchpads of the Steam Deck were essentially a meme.

More than the PS5

Not him, but the trackpads are used for PC exclusives that use KB&M.

Which is basically like using the trackpad of a laptop as it's very far from practical from an actual mice, which is why I said the Deck touchpads are nothing more than a meme.

If it works, it works

Joycons as mice makes so little sense on a device like the Switch. The whole point of that machine is the ability to play in whatever mode you want, but implementing something like joycon-mice or a touch sensitive display kind of subverts that. If you want to use those features, you have to play a specific kind of way. Really breaks continuity.
What's weirder is that Nintendo themselves sad people tend to play docked to a TV 50% of the time and spend the other 50% of the time playing in handheld. Tabletop gets virtually no use…and it's also the only time you'd feasibly be able to use mouse mode comfortably. The rest of the time, you're either holding the device in your hands (indicating you don't have enough physical space to do the mouse input meme) or you're likely sitting on your couch or on the floor in your living room, both of which are suboptimal surfaces for mouse usage. Maybe a coffee table, but even that is uncomfortably low…who is this for? Touchpads would've been a much more sensible option. They're usable in every situation no matter what.
