Well you know the rest.
Im on my way to beat 100 PSX games and looking for something hidden or obscure game as my 100th to beat. Otherwise its just gonna be Final Fantasy 7.
>>
Why do Amerimutts call it the the PSX? Where do they get the X from?

Parasite Eve 1 & 2 are overated. i thought it was going to be a competent REclone but it was just a bug hunt simulator specially PE2

i thought you will be fighting monsters like Hunters, livkers and stuff, instead it was just caterpillars, butterflies, larvae, spiders, and the occasional nugget baby
>>
>>730852608
It was the formal codename for the project and used in early advertising.
>>
>>730852526
The best Digimon game. As in it's the only good one.
>>
>>730852608
PS and PSX are both fine.
>>730852784
I played Parasite Eve and its a horrible game outside of very satisfying "90s feel". They really didn't know how to make games back then, just trying things.
>>
>>730852608
the development codename was Playstation X
when trade magazines needed a three letter acronym, Sony suggested including the X

>hidden or obscure
Every single non-PAL PS1 game ever released has already been brought to light. If you want something "obscure", you're gonna have to learn moon runes and start playing Nip games.

That being said, pic related is from the game you should play.
>>
>>730852526
there's a creepy PS1 Japan only game Kowai Sashin. its a spirit photo exorcism game,

essentially its just a huge qte game, that gets harder and harder as you progress. its notoriety comes from the pictures used. apparently the pictures used were from a someone who collects cursed photographs.
>>
>>730852526
Silent Bomber
Threads of Fate
Racing Lagoon
Echo Night 1&2
>>
>>730852526
Not exactly hidden but don't forget Star Ocean 2 or Valkyrie Profile or I'll hunt you down.
I imagine you've done Syphon Filter and Soul Reaver already.. Shit man, 100 games is a deep well to plumb. If you're already 90 deep you're past the greats and into the usual. Spider-Man? Army Men: Sarge's Heroes? Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2001?
>>
>>730852608
PSX is almost exclusively used in writing. No one says "PSX" out loud, but it's always "Playstation" or "P. S. One" when spoken. PSX was used online forever, especially in emulating/dumping communities, because it was the original marketing term, which those people knew and kept using. Most kids and casual consumers had zero idea that it was ever called that.

I am American and have been gaming since before the playstation came out for what it's worth.
>>
>>730852608
God shut the fuck up faggot.
>>

>Most kids and casual consumers had zero idea that it was ever called that.
Anyone who ever read a fucking magazine (which was literally anyone who wanted to know what games to buy because the internet was shitty and expensive in the 90s), knew PSX.
>>
>>730852526
Pretty much any shmup.
Einhander
R-Type Delta
G-Darius
Gradius Gaiden
or maybe Gamera 2000 if you like Panzer Dragoon-ish rail shooters.

Threads of Fate is shit. Game desperately needed voice acting.

Brightis is worth checking out if you're willing to play a moonrune game (the story is dead simple and no-frills, and you can get the gist of it easily with a phone translation app). But a word of caution: if it doesn't totally grab you after the first two dungeons, turn away. There's no interesting shakeups or mandatory new tools/techniques that expand the possibilities of the dungeon design or enemy encounters. (There's a bizarrely in-depth sword technique system where you can customize your loadout of sword techniques from a huge list you can learn, but a lot of them are stinkers or redundant). also the final dungeon is astoundingly fucking awful

Still, worth a look if you want to try a 3D Zelda-like on the PS1 outside of the Mega Man Legends games.

>>730853036
I've not beaten any of these games, actually. I just recently finished King's Field 1 & 2 and now about to finish Vandal Hearts, which been great.

So many good suggestions here i already learned a lot of new stuff.
Thank you.
>>
>>730853536
Brave Fencer Musashi is a real treasure and you better believe I badly wanted ToF to be on par with it. Which it wasn't. In any case, yes-- if OP hasn't played Brave Fencer then he must. Because it is great.

That's the problem: it DOES have bones for a good game. It just fails to add much meat to said bones. Imagine if your repertoire of items and techniques in Ocarina of Time stayed the same as it was in the Deku Tree throughout the ENTIRE GAME (except if you OPTIONALLY want to also get the magic spells from the Great Fairies). oh wait fuck I forgot there were also magic swords you can infuse with elemental damage properties; it was also third-baked and didn't amount to anything, not even a meaningful advantage in combat

The most unforgivable sin in vidya are rewards for accomplishing difficult things that feel completely pointless. I appreciate your noble sacrifice, anon. You have saved me from ever falling for the Brightis bait.
>>
Picrel. I just love it. It's though of as "shit" but I think it's really charming, as well as retarded and funny. I can't fault it. It's pretty simple, you basically heard sheep through obsticles that could kill them and try to get all to the end goal.

Tobal 2 is another. It was only officially released in Japan, but there's an English romhack for it. It's sort of a unique fighting game, and it's got some pretty good music. There's a whole RPG quest mode, but I never played very far into it. It's relatively quite niche and if you like fighting games, and have interest in older ones, it might interest you.

I don't know if it's niche, but relatively speaking it is. GITS Megatech Body is a great arcade style game where you play as a Tachikoma tank. The gameplay is kind of neat because it can move up surfaces like walls and ceilings. The music is good, the anime cutscenes are very good, the atmosphere is good, and even the graphics are nice for a PS1 game.

The Street Fighter EX games, being Street Fighter, aren't unknown, but out of the street fighter games they are probably the most niche and not known about. They were the first 3d SF games. The gameplay is a lot like the other SF games but they do have some of their own quirks. The soundtracks I consider some of the best in all of gaming.
>>
gonna list off a few Japanese games that have translations:
>Community Pom
Fun little 2D Zelda-ish game, but with a monster-catching and community-building aspect as well. It also stars a loli witch/sorceress, so it's an uohhhcore game for those who specifically want that sort of thing
>The Adventure of Little Ralph
A somewhat short arcade-style platformer with generally tight controls and nicely-drawn smoothly animated 2D sprites that gets tough as nails after the first stage. The game has one interesting party trick up its sleeve, however - after the first couple stages, boss fights become a 2-button fighting game (complete with special moves with traditional fightan inputs). When you beat the game, you even unlock the ability to play this fighting mode by itself with a friend, where you can play as Ralph or any of the fighting game style bosses.
>Kaze no Notam
A hot air balloon simulator, with missions akin to Pilotwings, but more relaxing. The game itself is fine and short (though the RNG on wind can kinda screw you sometimes), but what you're really here for is the atmosphere, especially the music. It's a very chill experience.
>Ultima Underworld
The original game itself isn't obscure, but this port is since it was Japanese-exclusive. It's worth checking out, even if for just a little while, to see what the hardware bump does for the game compared to the 1992 PC original.

I recently finally grabbed Duckstation and gave Azure Dreams, Torneko the Last Hope, Ehrgeiz, and Devil Dice, mostly because I didn't want to pay any of the prices the greedy kikes that think they have gold or something are charging for them. I'm glad I didn't spend any of their disgusting prices because all of these games kind of sucked shit.

I remember there being this turn-based jrpg like game where the main dude looked kind of like a pirate or wore a bandana or something. And also another game that was a 2D city building game with dungeon crawling, similar to Dark Cloud but 2D. Does anyone know these and their titles?
>>
>>730861250
You're probably like half right. Maybe less. If I played it back when CRT TVs were all that existed I'm sure I would've loved them, but I was a child and missed all of them. A cousin of mine had Azure Dreams and made it look really fun, but despite being a big mystery dungeon lover, I cannot bring myself to give even half a shit about it. My disappointment is only magnified when I think of how much of a blast I would've had with them back when I was like 13 or 14 or something before the internet, life, and the industry as a whole made me borderline hate most video games in general.
>>
>>730861525

Possibly Skies of Arcadia. However if that's the one it's Dreamcast.

First one could be jade cocoon
Second game sounds like azure dreams
>>
>>730862306
I don't think it was either of these, though Azure Dreams might be right maybe... I originally played the city builder in Japanese and looked more like an RPG Maker game from memory, but building was definitely tied to progression (from what we could work out as kids and not being able to read moonrunes)
