Why did it flop?

I remember back in the days Guitar Hero was very popular and you have to play Rocksmith with a real guitar.
Sim racing games are very popular as well, people spend thousand of dollars to buy gear.
Rockmith was cheaper than sim racing and cooler than Guitar Hero yet it went unnoticed. What went wrong?
>>
>even here no one cares about this game
>>
they turned it into a subscription thing that expanded into piano/musical keyboard

>you have to play Rocksmith with a real guitar
Everyone wants to feel like a rockstar, not actually put in the work to be a rockstar. Grabbing the steering wheel and putting your leg on the pedal is easy. If the game required you to also feel every bump and violently slammed you into the desk when you crash, then it would also "flop".

Playing the notes as the game wants you doesn't really teach you how to play guitar. It's kinda dumb.
At least guitar hero is more of an arcade controller that only looks like a guitar. But playing rocksmith on actual guitar and playing guitar normally kinda defeats the purpose of the Rocksmith
>>
>>730857905
Songs themselves don't really teach you, but the arcade games absolutely teach you stuff.

Playing without proprietary cable is a pain, especially before all the third party software was created. Getting new songs is expensive if you aren't on PC and selection is limited. It's genuinely easier to play on your own or with youtube vids after you develop some finger dexterity. It's also often harder to learn whatever the song is showing and follow along. They haven't really developed it further as an trainer or music software, just sold songs. Current subscription version is super shit.

i had the 2014 edition on my xbox 360 as a kid. i never ended up learning how to play but i remember it was really finicky especially when tuning and it kinda just felt like it was teaching you to play guitar hero but on an actual guitar, rather than actually learning how to play
>>
As a total guitar newb I found it not that great at actually learning you how to play desu. Was much easier to just use youtube (and there you can find any song ever made as well, without having to pay for it).

If you're already intermediate I could see the value I guess.

the note tracking isn't consistent enough for rhythmgamefags and the teaching systems arent idiot proof enough for /beg/s also less efficient than just reading standard tabs also the track selection itself never really catered to learning the instrument, it was just whatever random boomer rock they could license.

what rocksmith actually excels at is guitar karaoke but that's not how ubi tried to sell it
>and cooler than Guitar Hero
konami made that same mistake

Because it was too cheap, that's why they turned it into a subscription scam instead.

The reality is that nobody wants to learn how to make music these days. Music 2000 was a more modern take.

You can still buy it on Steam.

>If the game required you to also feel every bump
It's what they're trying to achieve right now with all those expensive 6 joint rigs
>>
> Got it thinking it would teach me how to play
> Was fine with the standard one string riffs etc
> Fail as soon as it starts throwing in two strings and moving up and down the fret board
> Went and found a YouTube guide online and learned the chords over time.

Still haven't touched Rocksmith except to tune my electric guitar.

The music industry is astroturfed. Plenty people are musically talented, but do not have a large following of artists for their own compositions. There are not a large number of aartists anyway because music does not earn food, drink, and shelter. Music earns food, drink, and shelter from people who earn food, drink, and shelter.
There was not a climate for actual musicianship. People who have played guitar all their life were people who were rivaled by teenagers who skipped school to play Rocksmith. As you can imagine, they hung out with each other, thus their fates became one...else they rejected hanging out with each other, so were preyed upon by the musical scenes playing the astroturfed field of artists.

The game gives you chords with finger numbers
>>
>>730858478
Probably this.

Unlike sim racing, playing guitar doesn't affect your real life. Being a better driver is more useful IRL than being a better guitar player.

Rocksmith is really fun and probably the best tablature representation method but solely learning the guitar via rote recall will never pan out well in the long run. This kind of shit leads to people who give up because they never attempted to learn. Unfortunately most people who give up have too much ego or pride to admit defeat so instead of dropping guitar all together they become da blooz fellating gear fags. These people existing will forever poison beginner guitar education because they insist on trying to teach and give people advice.
>>730858303
They had to remove every licensed song from it so unless you want to give them more money to buy DLC's its just a CDLC tool which at that point you might as well pirate since youre gonna have to do that anyway to restore the original games content.

I have played guitar for over 20 years and in bands about 15. Not even once do I remember anyone talking about Rocksmith.
>>
>>730858615
>playing guitar doesn't affect your real life
It absolutely does but just like driving, you have to actually go outside
>>
>>730858686
>people who give up because they never attempted to learn. Unfortunately most people who give up have too much ego or pride to admit defeat
Literally me
>so instead of dropping guitar all together they become da blooz fellating gear fags.
jokes on you I'm too poor to buy gear, but at the same time I just can't sell my guitar because I kinda like it, I should probably trade it for a sim-racing whell but I don't have enough balls to do that
>>
>>730858814
Are you driving to work on your amp?
>>
>>730857560
Yeah but you could just install GH and it would work even without the toy guitar.
On the other hand Rocksmith required a special cable that was nowhere to be found, and while there are solutions to use it without a special cable they are pain to set up. The game interface is also total trash.
>cooler than Guitar Hero
No way, the song selection sucked ass compared to GH/RB games, and It kinda makes sense since nobody would be able to play songs like what made GH popular on real guitar.

It should have been a game focused on fun instead of learning since the way it is set up you get more learning from youtube videos than this crap. The game is way more fun with bass since you can sight read that easily. But even then the song selection is so crappy you get like 5 good songs and then you can uninstall it. Doesnt help that the custom songs are pretty crappy too.

If you want to have fun combining video games and playing music the only real thing is drums with YARG or some other clone. Maybe if they add vocal support that too.
>>
>want to learn piano
>sheet music is hard to find
>all free sheet music tends to be complete fucking ass transcribed by ear by some pablo who gets half the notes wrong
You basically play classical or nothing.
>>
>>730858917
Oh shit and dont even get me started on retuning for every single fucking song. Like they never heard of pitch shifting? That shit was so annoying.
>>
>>730858903
Is work the only thing affecting your life?
>>
>>730857560
Because learning an actual instrument requires actual effort, which is something 90% of people can't muster.
>>
>>730859025
Yes. Playing guitar is very useless just like drawing, it's somewhat cool when you're like 15 and can get laid simply because of it
>>
>>730858421
Sure and people are playing Rocksmith. OP is asking why it flopped. If racing sims made 6 joint rigs mandatory, then they'd also flop.
>>
>>730859426
>and can get laid simply because of it
still works at 30 btw
>>
>>730857560
Because it doesnt actually teach you how to play guitar like it pretends it can with all the advertising.
And what it does teach you is bad habits.
>>
>>730859426
I'm 29 and I still haven't reached the age where being able to play guitar and sing half decently doesn't help getting laid.
