>be le me playing bioshock infinite>want to throw shit at a mixed race couple>game does not let meWTF I thought being woke started in 2016.
>>730859826the game is woke for not saying nigger
>>730860393I hate that they never let me be pals with comstock.Seems like a overachiever ubermensch.I would impregnate elizabeth and take his position once he dies.
>>730859826this game is such a pussy when it comes to actually showing racism
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdNhwb7iuI4the goat critique
>>730861120That's your daughter, retard who never played the game.Comstock is Booker from another dimension. Only an idiot wants to be friends with them self, again you never played the game. And I don't give a fuck about spoilers on a 12 year old game when people who wanna comment on the social commentary of this game ITT haven't played it.
>>730863065A lot of your mental problems will be resolved once you befriend yourself, you are not worthless, remember that
>>730859826Bioshock infinite is such a bad game. I have no clue why people glazed it so hard when it came out, literally the only thing it did right was art design. Gameplay was shit, powers were a downgrade from older games, guns and the upgrade system were a downgrade, the arenas in which you fight were all boring as fuck. And the story is just bad. The most milquetoast portrayal of racism and segregation, and the story just does not make sense and the time/alt universe shit just does not make for a good setting with how many freedoms the game gives itself.>shit is locked and can't be changed>except when we want it, then we can just change thingsEverything that would actually give the settings any stakes, is undermined.
>>730861261"The game was not racist enough" is one of the main reasons people seem to hate B:I and I genuinely don't understand this critique. Like you can allude to the concept without having to show lynching on the screen.
>>730863291big game journo websites were the only ones who glazed it but every alternative/independent reviewer shat on it when it came out for the downgraded gameplay and bad world building.
>>730863235>anime posterNo one cares what you say lol
>>730863291>>730863427>bad guns>boring gun upgrades>shit powers>no reason to use a variety of them>introduce mechanics that go nowhere>boring encounter design>meaningless choicesIs that enough criticism?
>>730863461It is possible for your life to improve, you are not a failure, no matter how much you keep telling yourself that, godspeed.
>>730863512I never said there wasn't valid criticism. I said the main critique was how it "fumbles" the racism allegory. Though I will say a lot of those points are subjective. I hear "Bad guns" and I feel literally every shooter in that period of time had low gun variety. Everything worked like an m16, a shotgun or a sniper rifle. And people complain about variety in powers when the original Bioshocks variety was pretty lackluster too in my opinion. Like not even your choices in the original matter. It's literally press L1 to be a mega hitler orphan killer that proves the antagonist was right or press r1 to be a decent human being.
>meaningless choicesWasn't Bioshock entire premise centered around the fact that you, the player, had no real autonomy and the only meaningful choice you could make was to save the little sisters or harvest them? Which doesn't really work because the "true ending" involves you saving them?
>>730863783>Though I will say a lot of those points are subjective.Sure, you can say its subjective, but the guns don't feel good. The feedback when hitting enemies is anemic, the sound design is underwhelming, The choices you have are just sad, since you can only carry 2 guns.Which is in direct opposition with the upgrade system. In halo the 2 gun limit was annoying, but you could constantly swap weapons with enemies. In infinite, you can't because the upgrades mean if you are low on ammo, swapping into a different weapon is shooting yourself in the foot, since you can't have everything upgraded. The only somewhat fun gun is the crank gatling. The variety is still larger even with less weapons in Bioshock 1 which is the worse than 2 in this regard. Crossbow, chem thrower alone make it so you don't just have your regular run of the mill gunpowder ammo. And even the upgrade system does more than just "more dmg" at times, with upgrades like no self damage from grenade thrower, less broken xbow bolts. And correct, the choices did not matter in the first games, but the game did not pretend to give you much of a choice. It was literally>loot now>more loot laterInfinite pretends its giving you choices within a story. And those choices literally don't do anything. Its as shallow as a puddle. At least if it gave you different loot or pathing based on your choice. But its literally>chose A or B>you chose A>it never comes up again
>>730863783>>730864013Bioshock 1 did it poorly but at least it was still existent. You choosing between saving Little Sisters or Harvesting them didn't make any substnstial change but at least the game actually aknowledges that you picked a choice via1.) a different ending2.)different rewards mechanically Not that it matters if 1 did it poorly as a reference because Bioshock 2 exists and did differing choices pretty well.
>>730863427If a piece of work want to be taken seriously as an interpretation of subject matter it can’t also shy away from depicting the thing it’s supposed to be addressing. Alluding to heavy racism and race related violence but never depicting or directly addressing it is the coward’s approach.
>>730864637Not that anon, but I will have to say I disagree on a basic level, but not when it comes to infinite. A lot of literature written under the communist regimes was critical, and was trying to adress certain subject matter, but it had to be somewhat subtle about it. It works. You need to be a good writer however to pull it off, and it might not always land.Where infinite loses me, is that it runs in with a literary sledgehammer, and then proceeds to gently beat around the bush. You can't have it both ways.
>>730863613NTA but if you keep posting anime reaction images and sarcastically saying nice things I'm gonna cum in you.
>>730866230
>>730864883nta, but you are advocating for the reality that is the star wars franchise in current day. Boba Fett's ship was retconned from being named "slave one" to "boba fett's ship", yes, literally. Why? because alluding to slave ownership is bad, even when it's the villain doing it. The same as making a game about WW2 but removing all swatztika iconography from the game because "swatzikas are bad". If you are going to make a visual product for the express purpose of examining an atrocity, you need to depict the atrocity, you can't pussyfoot around it because it's icky. if it's too icky for you that you don't want to show it for the terrible thing that it is, don't fucking make it, otherwise you are uplifting and defending the perpetrators by absolving them of the act that you wanted to depict but didn't.
>>730859826No see, we need to tell you wypeepo bad but you can't actually partake in it, just the shame!
>>730859826>peak anti-white gameWhy are you surprised? And no, this shit has been going on longer than you've been alive, you faggot. It started even before Napoleon.
2 is the only good Bioshock game, 1 built a great setting and characters but the game itself is bad. Infinite is genuinely awful
>>730867248Not what I'm advocating. What I am advocating is to pick a lane. If you want to go obvious, show it all. If you want to do obvious in your face nazi commentary, don't avoid the obvious symbolism. However, you can still tell stories with subtlety, you can tell a story about classism bad, racism bad, but you need to really be in touch with those themes, because if you are trying to avoid the obvious, you will need to show all of the indirect negative consequences. People being afraid to speak, people acting "off", how it affects the community, resource starvation, all that can be told without obvious in your face symbols, BUT, you need to be a good writer.
>>730867356>It started even before NapoleonHow/when did it start then?
>>730866508
I will stand on the rooftops and boldly do declare that I am WOKE AND PROUD
>>730870664This, I'm just here for the cropped Elizabeth pornography.
>>730859826>playing bioshock>have a bad timeShocker.
>be cornstarch>make flying city free of niggers>have magic dimensional portals to steal shit from other worlds with>have literal robots and even basic ai >still import niggers and potatoniggers for cheap labor>let said niggers and potatoniggers start a violent revolution group and barely have your policemen and/or your army down in the shantytown to stop said niggers and potatoniggers from organizing >said niggers and potatoniggers are literally a single parachute away from escaping the city yet this never comes up in the game >this entire plot is totally abandoned after the first half of the game
>>730870732Never enough Bioshock threads nowadays.
>>730859826To be fair they don't let you throw it at the announcer either>>730861261It shows it far more explicitly than most games, even those set in a similar era
>>730863427>more advanced than modern day>clear examples of automation>explicitly racist>still imports minoritiesIt's not a lack of racism, but the presence of performative racism; its only racist so mr. Levine can call it bad. There's no greater thought in it than that.
>>730867248another example, in sniper elite (a ww2 game) multiplayer, the two sides are just called warriors and mercenaries
>>730859826So what happens when you push the button? Why is the option even there?
>>730862971Someone post the link of him saying nigger through the wall of the apartment
>>730863065I would do EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. of them, no matter what dimension or blood relation. She was smoking.
>>730863065>Nooo you can't like this autonomous character with unique traits because it's actually you all along. >Also you can't find a hot character hot because we made it into incest. You wouldn't want to have wincest now would you?Average media literacy fag
>>730863427Columbia is supposed to be a society of racists. Despite this, it's less hostile than parts of irl 1900s america. If your dystopian society is less awful than real life, it falls flat.It doesn't really do anything with the religious stuff either. They go "we're gonna kill everyone" and mention god a couple times and that's it. Columbia is just a poorly developed setting all around. The plot was changing wildly all through development and it shows.
>>730871314pregnant.
>>730860393Its less that and more how evidently sheepish everyone is with their racism. Even listening to audio logs you can hear how nervous the VAs are delivering lines about "subhumans" and how "if you can even call them people". They have this liberal intonation that you can close your eyes and picture them looking left, looking right, and lowering their voice a little to say it. There's no venom or tooth to any of it.
>>730873297Exactly. She'll just have to wait until she pushes out whatever it is to see.
>>730873064Modern liberals believe that making villains of their stories hold abhorrent positions is the saying they themselves condone it. See >>730873235Even when it's supposed to be considered evil in the fictional work, they're so afraid of being called out on it so they avoid it entirely and they're right to do so because people get cancelled IRL for their fictional character portrayals all the time in the modern world.
