It also came out at the ass end of the Switch's life and ran like dogshit on console. I hear Switch 2's performance is better, but sadly I think the damage is done. I hope the team gets another chance to make another M&L game, because they have potential, but somehow I doubt they will.

I don't think Nintendo will have a problem going with them again if they're still fine with releasing multiple Mario RPG series on the same system. Actually I think it has the best chance of all three. Paper Mario is always tied to the whims of Intelligent Systems so who knows if they'll make a proper RPG one next while Super Mario RPG is tied to the even wilder whims of Square Enix and is not an ongoing series despite the remake being by far the most successful between it, the TTYD remake and Brothership.
