Launching on PC only made it mildly more annoying to run at locals since the average cheap laptop for kusoge is too weak for 2XKO, and bigger setups are a pain.
I don't know whether it'll pick up any steam though, I've seen almost negative interest in it and at many events I've been to I've seen games 10 years older with more entrants and interest.

I'd say releasing a team game with 8 characters or whatever the fuck the launch roster was just sucked ass. You can't have a team game with a tiny roster because it just makes the inevitable "best team" more annoying as they likely have even less counterpicks available. The game still hasn't really solved the 2v2 problem of "what do we do when a character dies" because just letting you call their assist/supers like they're still alive is incredibly lazy as an answer to it. It offers nothing unique and is ultimately a very tame and watered down version of every game it claims as inspiration.
What COULD have saved it:

I've had access since the first round of closed beta and it's fun fucking around with a friend in duos but for this to be a success for riot, it needs to be far bigger, and they've basically done everything to ensure it won't be. It's not about the combo length, it's about blinking and eating a high/low, left/right mixup where you've got maybe 3-5 frames to decide which way to block and getting hit means you have a high likelihood of losing the game. Oki being strong in fighting games is just an inherent issue, it's even more so in a tag fighter and it's even more so again in an active tag fighter. There's not really a way to solve this without extremely strong defensive mechanics, which bring their own problems.

I have not played the EA only beta so I dont know how it all works but I think you are being too much of a doomer. I have heard.seen its a relative straight forward and easy process to unlock the characters, you even get one free for just doing the tutorial. You also dont need to unlock them all.

Console release isn't going to make even the slightest difference for 2XKO. All that's going to happen is that console players are going to get raped by PC players who own a console, because the game is F2P and there's nothing stopping them from downloading it on console and farming scrubs who haven't played it at all.

If you want an example of a game that will benefit from a console release, RoA2's is planned for 2027. You know how people run platform fighter tournaments? They bring their fucking consoles: GameCubes, Wiis, modded Wiis, Switches. Platform fighter players love console gaming. Smash players, casual or competitive, play on console. With no hint of Smash 6, a $30 platform fighter with a roster of ~18 characters with rollback netcode is going to appeal to them. Even if it appeals to a fraction of a fraction of Smash players, it will benefit the game greatly.
