So that's it then? VR is officially dead?
>>

So Steam has monopoly on VR from now on?
>>
>>730861851
Could be. I doubt they'll move fast on it though.
>>

I bought the oculus rift and it bricked itself after a firmware update 1 month in, returned it
got the meta quest and it required a mandatory meta/facebook account which I don't and will never have
I would have bought the valve index but I had such a bad experience with VR I never wanted to touch it again but I will be buying the new steam VR if it's MAX €700 because it seems like the index was a huge success

>>730861851
>$800
>2K LCD

Lmao DOA
>>
>>730861252
Meta only makes money selling peoples data so no but I don't know why anyone would buy anything Meta is selling.
>>
>>730861252

VR is never officially dead anon. They´ve been pushing it since the early 90´s. They are just shelving it for another 2 decades. You´ll live to see it raise again.

Hopefully, in time, the same will happen to AI.
>>
I really like the direction of steam frame
they are finally admitting people want to play 2D games with VR or have bonus VR modes instead of only waggle slop. and the controllers don't look so retarded like index controllers and can play real games
>>
>>730861252
>VR is officially dead?
no, it's zuck's metaverse vision is dead while everyone goons in vrchat with new face tracking and soon FBT fullbody trackers (no valve lighthouses)

Gamers won

I'm not talking about hardware. Steam and Meta are the only real VR games stores. If Meta pulls out from exclusives, they're going to be treated like Epic Store.
>>
>>730861252
>So that's it then? VR is officially dead?
no. the opposite. it means meta's closed garden is finally dead and VR can return to PC where it belongs
>>
>>730861252
VR will never work if I have to go buy a bulky headset and some weird wands and hook up sensors and shit. Hell, I wear glasses and visors make me uncomfortable because of them. They have space for the glasses, but I feel like they push them up uncomfortably against my face.
>>
>>730863585
VR has been working for over 10 years. What are you talking about?
>>
>>730863645
Actually, OP is showing me that VR is not working :)

Facebook set VR back by about 5-10 years and they have basically no momentum left without Carmack doing full-time tard wrangling.

>Early 90s
>Sword of Damocles was an HMD from 1968
I don't think you can even shelve HMDs at this point since they are available to consumers and are already a competitive display technology when compared to LCDs.
VR development didn't happen in the 2000s because of the push for larger flat panels and consoles, but there's no similar obstacle anymore.
>>
Zuck invested into games when he should have invested in accessories and let other more competent gamedevs utilize the tools

do you believe that Quest headsets are all you can buy?
>>
>>730864082
I believe that there are only a few brands making VR headsets and seemingly all of them are not making money. We only don't know Valve but they have infinite cash and care more about passion than profit. Not that they'd flush a billy down the toilet, but Gabe loves tech and this shit is probably a personal project for him.

Do you think Pimax doesn't make money?
Do you think Bigscreen aren't making money?
Do you think Varjo aren't making money?
etc etc
>>
Pico 5 is the only hope left
>>
>>730862371
You can already play flat games in VR as a "big screen mode." It's nothing special. Valve is just pushing that because there's no VR games. Valve themselves are making a VR game for the Frame.

I play Tetris Effect on my Quest 3s literally every day. Although to be fair I'm kind of a Tetris freak in general.

That's great news if they port some of the exclusives to PC to reduce costs and PSVR2 and PC become the new default option for games again. Either way, I am glad I don't own a quest headset.
>>
>>730861851
PSVR2 if it grows enough, some games already sells better there and it has really good specs for the price.
>>
>>730866202
Yeah people sleep on it, arguably the OLED colours are better than the clarity of the quest 3. The only bad thing is having to own a PS5 and the limited library.
>>
>>730862371
2D games in VR has to be some spic thing where you have 12 people in your living room. It's completely shit compared to a real screen with speakers.
>>
>>730866741
there are shaders to make any 2D game look like 3D, and some games can be rendered in real stereo 3d with a geo11 driver
>>
>>730865875
>glad I don't own a quest headset.
imagine being so poor to care about something that costs less than 1000 usd
>>
>>730866660
I've got a buddy with both Q3 and PSVR2 who plays on PC and the only advantage of PSVR2 is not having wireless streaming hitches / heavy compression and even then it's only worth putting on for racing games.
>>
>>730867252
PSVR2 on PC misses the major benefit which is the OLED. Once you've used it the permanent blue grey shine of the Q3 is like a constant visual insult.

Still the PC library is much, much, much better so I do use my Q3 more.
