Disney, sell me The Simpsons for $100. I'll be the one to cancel The Simpsons. It needs to be done, but no-one wants the burden of doing it. I will happily carry that on my shoulders.
I'll then sell it back to you for one cent, with the terms being you can't produce any more new movies or TV for it. You can still make merch, games, whatever.
You've made an increase of 999,900% on that deal.

I answered this last year. Season 26 episode 15 "The Princess Guide" is the first episode I definitely never watched, and almost nothing after that.
Seasons 1-10 I could probably tell you what episode a random quote came from, I watched them so much. I even have the Simpsons Guidebook.

To OP: I had a pretty well developed Tapped Out Springfield on my Jelly Bean OS android tablet. I don't think I touched it since Halloween '14. It got way to tedious to upgrade anything. I was just logging in to tap my screen for 20 seconds for 10 days in a row so I could build Reverend Lovejoy's church.

It's the "Romances" clip episode. Bad by S6 quality, but just a rehashed unremarkable episode. It's probably the laziest clip episode.
>>
>>730866232
No, it was just a clip show which was normal in the 80-90s.

Most people didn't record the Simpsons (I did), so they actually liked best-of shows. Utterly worthless to rewatch and pointless to have on a DVD though.

Bart becomes a radical feminist episode.

>>
>>730871025
early bad rates episodes are clip shows
the later good ones are usually high concept episodes where they went outside the mold
the two black ones are probably Lady Gaga guest star and the high school musical where Marge and Homer are retconned to be in high school in 1999 and Marge’s voice is done by a different person because regular Marge voice actress is a 90-year-old lady who can’t sing
>>
>>730871626
>high school musical where Marge and Homer are retconned to be in high school in 1999 and Marge’s voice is done by a different person because regular Marge voice actress is a 90-year-old lady who can’t sing
They were already changed to milennials prior to that episode. The show has been on a sliding timeline for over 20 years, people need to deal with the fact that Homer and Marge are born in the 80s now and all the kids aren't even born in the 00s.
They had Kristen Bell do Marge's singing voice. It was explained in universe that Marge can't actually sing and the Bell song segments were a fantasy.

Third season of Family Guy

A better question is what specific point did the fox cartoons turn unwatchable unwatchable?

I'm on season 7 episode 10 of King of the Hill and the quality is tanking, I fear watching further.
>>
>>730872936
It's the Seth McFarlane rule.

No matter how a show begins it invariably loses it's intial point and becomes about the wacky cute smol side characters and everyone is exaggerated into the same generic liberal douche for effect.

Family Guy used to be about a regular factory worker who'd drink with the guys after work and a couple of awkward teenagers finding themselves, with Stewie just being an occasional gag. Now it's the Brian and Stewie show and Peter just does whatever they think of that week with no grounding.

American Dad was about an arrogant CIA agent and his hippie daughter, with everything else being some kind of gag. But it became about Roger and Steve in the same way FG was about Brian and Stewie.

Cleveland Show was basically just about them trying to redo Family Guy with a new small town setting. But it failed because most of the Rallo plots didn't go anywhere so they couldn't do a le wacky side character go-to template.

pretty different from having an entire otherwise normal episode devolve into fantasy creatures

>>
>>730862851
I stopped watching around season 19/20 but whenever I do a rewatch it's purely season 1-12 and the movie and even that's cutting it. Also everyone is wrong about when the show "jumped the shark" the first very mean spirited episode that ruins a lot of the characters is in 8, the mary poppins one. But most people say the principal and the pauper (season 9) is the jump the shark moment
>>
>>730875526
Yeah, that's usually the method of doing something. Like they could of had the Elf Jockeys if they weren't part of the main plot. For the Simpsons, it's a goofy cartoon, but there's a level of reality that it should maintain.
>>
>>730875828
>But most people say the principal and the pauper (season 9) is the jump the shark moment
that's peak "someone on youtube told me it so it has to be true" garbage
a show like the simpsons can't have one defining episode that signals when everything went to shit. it's a gradual decline over the course of a few seasons in the late 90's/early 00's. if you want a definitive moment it's not when they "ruined the narrative" or some retarded shit like that, it's when you realized the show hit a point of no return. And nobody with a straight face is gonna say it's the literal second episode of the season right after the general consensus "golden age."
>>
>>730862851
a few seasons after the movie, then it became a parody of itself like south park after orange mans 1st election
>>
>>730876102
I didn't get it from a youtuber, I got it from obsessively rewtaching the series as a teenager. The Mary Poppins episode is the first episode with jerkass homor and cynical, mean spirited jokes. It's not "the moment the show became unwatchable" it's the moment the trends in the bad seasons started to take root.
>>
>>730862851

I was playing it before the announcement, but my town didn't get saved and I lost my backup, so I just stopped playing the game altogether.
>>
>>730862851
I watched some episodes last year after a lot of time of not watching anything, but holy shit, the fucking show has gone down the drain completely, it's just politics now.
In an episode bart begs some alt-left feminist gang to get him on board because the girls in there were "too cool", and on another one they're supposedly making fun of people criticizing hollywood changing the gender of characters in shows for no reason, and they quite literally bust their own argument because they show the reason why it's done, but still continue the stupidity.
>>
>>730862851

>>
>>730872605
American Dad is some bizarro situation where the characters started out extremely flanderized and annoying and then settled into being more grounded and likeable over time. They also keep things fresh with the right amount of retarded fantasy plots, which are believably enabled by Stan being a spook and Roger being an alien.

It also really helps having a cast of characters that generally get along with each other, dysfunctional families are an exhausted form of comedy and American Dad really doesn't rely on it like the Simpsons or Family Guy do.
>>
>>730877686
why don't they just produce every episode like that? just that light filter makes the show so much easier on the eyes, the solid colors don't sear into your eyes like they do in the regular modern episodes.

The Principal and the Pauper is a great episode that gets treated like shit for this idea of character assassination. They would have to do something really drastic to Skinner where you couldn't redeem him. Like he was Russian spy in disguised and tried to kill the real Skinner or he's part of the mob and running a double life. Nothing about him being Armin Tamzarian changes his character, he can't go back being the no good street punk that he was having taken the moral high ground. And there's a part in his backstory that I like that pushes his character to do better in life.

I long for a Simpsons retro collection. Yeah they're mostly shit, but they've been out of circulation for so long. On my rewatches I always stop watching at the episode where Homer gets disemboweled by a badger as a one-off gag. The decline is gradual enough overall for me to not care and just keep putting on the next episode like a zombie, but that scene in particular is always what finally wakes me up and shut it off.

The last episode I can remember watching is when they end up stranded in Italy and Sideshow Bob has a family and hes the mayor of the city because his gigantic feet can crush grapes in record time, which saved their wine industry. I knew the family would fuck it all up for him but the way it happened was literally:
>Lisa gets drunk on fucking wine and starts rambling about all of Bob's crimes
I know Marge/Homer are some of the worst parents in fiction but god damn can you at least monitor them so they don't do this? And why is Lisa the smart one, even drinking?
>>
>>730884714
>Selma and Patty are probably rough too.
Actually she can still do them pretty well, since her normal speaking voice is basically just the Patty and Selma voice at this point. I don't even think she has to point on a voice for them anymore.
>>
>>730881816
This can't be real because it's actually painful to listen to her talk. ironically this list ends before they reached a mini renaissance when Al Jean started have less ofa role in showrunning and Matt Selman started bringing in fresh showrunners to make episodes
i don't want to oversell that its good or not, but its certainly better
you got "A Springfield Summer Christmas for Christmas", "A Serious Flanders", and "Lisa the Boy Scout" all being pretty good episodes
"Pixelated and Afraid" is genuinely a great episode though, and is a huge middle finger to the MARRIAGE IS ON THE ROCKS shit that Al Jean loved to push

>We have new writers and said writers want to 'expand' on lesser used characters without understanding why said characters were used sparingly
Simpsons characters nowadays are a mockery of what they had been, it's like someone heard someone say "this character is like this" without ever understanding the real meaning of what the character did in reality in the old episodes.
It's like the meme about lisa saying she hates her dad because he doesn't care about her and then followed with a bunch of images where he cared about her, it's basically I heard some woman say he doesn't care about her so now I'm writing fanfiction about it.

>It also really helps having a cast of characters that generally get along with each other, dysfunctional families are an exhausted form of comedy and American Dad really doesn't rely on it like the Simpsons or Family Guy do.
its ironic, Stan's entire family is designed around being people who are supposed to annoy him as a red blooded neocon. (hippie daughter with a loser boyfriend then husband, weak nerd son, wife with a slutty past, and a gay alien) but he still has to love them since they're his family. and that love is genuine as shown in so many episodes. they could have kept this all in the family type of premise but decided to move on from it
even klaus has ended up being one of the funniest characters in the show because they realized being the family's punching bag got old

That's because Seth MacFarlane stopped writing for AD after the pilot and the writers rightfully realized after 2 seasons that doing the generic political left vs. right commentary wasn't as interesting or as fun as going all-in on the wacky glownigger hijinks with Stan and Roger with the rest of the family. AD benefits from having a cast made up almost exclusively of crazy people.

Francine works because she gets shit on for being a retard just as much as all the other dumb characters.
She's not the boring "always right voice of reason" character that female characters usually end up being in these types of American sitcoms.
She's just as weird and crazy as her husband, which explains why they're together.

It kind of fell off after TBS bought them out but those first 10 seasons or so are so good. I reckon it has something to do with McFarlane sort of abandoning the writers to their own devices after it stopped being a Family Guy replacement show.

Its not that, most of the writing team that worked on seasons 1 to 8 quit after the Spin Offs episode because they were done, either exhausted because they ran out of ideas or because they didnt like the new management that severely limited the time they were allowed to spend writing the episodes.

To be fair, it wasnt intentional by Matt Groening for shit to be off model in the 90s and early 2000s. Much of that had to do with the cheap outsourcing from a South Korea studio. And as time went on they had to increase the size of the Do's and Don't's. Basically, all the errors were one giant happy accident (with exception to season 1 which is rancid in quality) that did influence the humor of the show. My favorite was the giant bulging deer in headlight eyes around early Season 5.

Why do so many Americans like King of the Hill? That show is such a snoozefest.

>has the lowest overall animation quality of audiovisual media in existence by far
Do you have any proof of this or are you just basing it off anecdotal evidence

Considering the writing quality has gotten worse and worse every time they bring it back, Futurama should've just stayed dead.

How do I see that?

Which ever episode revealed that Skinner isn't actually Skinner. Dunno why that pissed me off so much as a kid.

That was the impression I had watching the latest Holiday special. Like it was a middle finger for making them have to write one. It was probably the least funny thing I have ever seen. Which is a feat in itself as making something incredibly unfunny can sometimes loop to being funny but it couldn't even do that.

Hardly can be called a dud though, it's still remembered and referenced to this day, unlike most of that list.

Groening hated the crossover they did with Simpsons.
>The two reasons I am opposed to this crossover is that I don't want any credit or blame for The Critic and I feel this (encroachment of another cartoon character) violates the Simpsons' universe, The Critic has nothing to do with the Simpsons' world. [...] [I'm] not criticizing The Critic. But cartoons have their own style and I really have nothing to say about The Critic. Through all the years of The Simpsons we have been careful about maintaining their uniqueness. Sure, there have been other cartoons who visit, but it's usually just one scene, often for a sight gag.
