Companies are generally restricted to 100 Marines total, including support roles such as Apothecaries, Techmarines, and pilots. Even for that number of Marines, holding off Tyranids from two separate planets at once with depleted Guard and uncooperative AdMech is an extreme stretch. Calgar arriving at the end isn't just some big name dropping in, he's bringing the entire First Company as well, which has the best veterans and gear the Chapter has to offer barring the Primarch's personal forces.It's actually a point that Titus has colossal plot armor in-universe and shouldn't be able to make it past even the first mission.
